2 Star Review VERY POOR Batteries

Strengths:

No wire--light weight--auto feed

Weaknesses:

EXTREMEMLY POOR Batteries--will not hold a charge, drain quickly and take a long time to re-charge (6 hours)

Posted Apr 27, 2008 - Very poor batteries--they must be used immediately after charging, drain quickly, and take a long time to re-charge. Since it only comes with 1 charger and won't hold a charge, must start charging 12 hours before you intend to use it (6 hours for each battery). With today's battery technology, Black & Decker could have done much better

4 Star Review Less Hassel Saves Time

Strengths:

Automatic Line Feed, Adjustment to Edger, No starting problems, No string issues

Weaknesses:

Battery Life and length of charge time

Posted Apr 16, 2008 - I don't dread edging anymore because of the hassel of a gas trimmer. Keeping one of those running is tough. I have 600 feet of sidewalk and curb to edge and then the general trimming of the yard. It used to take 40 to 50 minutes. I can get it done with this one in 25 minutes. However, both batteries are dead by then. I need 1 more battery so I can finish my back yard during the same day. The batteries take 4 to 6 hours each to recharge. It is not qutie as powerful as a gas trimmer but it handles my thick southern lawn just fine. It is a little quieter. I have used it 4 times and so far I am on the same spool of line. I like that I am not starting and stopping with line or engine problems. One more battery and I'll be good to go. If you like to power up your gas trimmer to dig a hole, this one will get you there but it will take a while. But I have a big yard with a lot of edging and I like the trade off of power vs. time savings and less hassels.

3 Star Review Good light duty trimmer

Strengths:

Light weight

Weaknesses:

Minimal power, line length requires close cutting.

Posted Mar 7, 2008 - I bought this as a sub for my 18cc gas trimmer that is in for repair...much longer than it should be. I have a little larger yard than normal...actually the size is about normal, but the former owner had a lot of nicely cut detail work around the trees...and I try to maintain that. 2 batteries is not enough. I bought a rapid charger...and a blower with two more batteries, and being creative with doing all of the trimming and blowing first, then charging while mowing, I manage to get by. If you are looking at just this...I would strongly recommend in getting the entire 3 piece kit that comes with the blower and the hedger. I bought the blower separate...and now wish I had gotten all three at the same time. One side effect of it being a little wimpy is that if you run into something...it doesn't destroy it. This thing will cut grass...but it will not chew through the yard light housings, etc. So, it is good to give to an assistant to help while you mow. :) Another nice thing about this is that I can throw it in the car really easy as I sometimes maintain my parents yard...and have a rental house that sometimes have to maintain. The battery powered tools are really helpful there. One major draw back is the the line is really small...and short. So, you have to stand pretty close to your cutting. I am sure this is a battery and power issue. I do plan to try replacing the line with a heavier line when this spool runs out. I hope it works. As far as over all rating? Well, just make sure you can use for a bit with a good return policy. Plan on getting extra batteries. I would probably buy it again because it serves it purpose. But I do miss the speed and power of my gas powered...when it worked.

5 Star Review Good for an average yard

Strengths:

It is very light and very easy to use. Cordless, convinient to use

Weaknesses:

Battery life

Posted Dec 19, 2007 - It's easy to operate, light-weight, no gas/oil, no electric cords, no bumping, most anyone could handle it with ease and yet it gets the job done nicley. It performed great. Feedline is thinner and runs out faster. The purchase of another charger+battery will make this an extremely effective tool, otherwise it has enough battery power for small jobs.

4 Star Review Good trimmer for small yards

Strengths:

2 batteries Lightweight Easy to manuever

Weaknesses:

can only charge one battery at a time not good for very large areas

Posted Sep 12, 2007 - This is a great trimmer for those of us with small to medium yards. It is very light and easy to use and comes with 2 batteries which comes in handy when you have extra trimming to do. The battery is less powerful than gas or electric but it is also less hassle. A trade off that I am happy with. It is also easy to change between the edging and trimming function.

5 Star Review A joy to use

Strengths:

Easy assembly, lightweight, extra battery.

Weaknesses:

None so far.

Posted Aug 6, 2007 - I've had this trimmer since the beginning of summer. I have an average sized yard and this trimmer does the job without losing its charge. The unit comes with an extra battery, so if you do run out of juice you can grab your second battery and finish your yard. I got the unit on sale for $80 and the $5 Pricegrabber bonus is just icing on the lawn, er cake. A highly recommended buy!

4 Star Review Wonderful deal

Strengths:

Light weight, easy to use, no gas and electric cord, good quality.

Weaknesses:

two big batteries

Posted Aug 2, 2007 - I was tired of trying forever to get my old gas and oil trimmer to start. So I decided to give cordless a try and not have to hook up a long ext. cord. I am very pleased with the 18 volt unit, plenty of power for my small backyard and front yard.

4 Star Review A Gentleman's Grass Trimmer

Strengths:

Light weight, easy to use, no gas and electric cord

Weaknesses:

Small battery capacity and long charging time, not very powerful, suitable only for light trimming work

Posted Jun 10, 2007 - I labeled it as a "gentleman's grass trimmer" because a serious yard worker may not be happy with it. When I ordered the trimmer, I was thinking about the light trimming work around my house. It seems what it is capable to do is only just that. It is mostly made of plastic and is, therefore, not too heavy. Two 18V Ni-Cd batteries (each weighing about 2 pound) came with the order ($99.99 plus free shipping). When I first opened the shipped package, I was eager to use the trimmer. I charged a battery for about an hour and it gave me only a few minutes of trimming. A battery charged overnight can last about 20 minutes. Including two batteries in the package is definitely a necessity. Overall, the trimmer is simple to use (no gas, no electric cord, just mount the battery and start to work) and suitable for light trimming work (0.065" line size). According to my wife's observation, I seem to enjoy "playing" with it.

5 Star Review Perfect Home Lawn Machince

Strengths:

Light weight, fast charging

Weaknesses:

would be nice if you could charge both batteries at the same time.

Posted May 7, 2007 - Only paid $80. Fast charging and light wieght. It is nice that it comes with 2 batteries. you will need them if you have a lot of area to cover. Auto advnace string is a godsend! no more trying to get it to work! Also it is cordless and it starts everytime. No more getting a work out trying to start it.

5 Star Review Black & Decker 18 Volt Cordless Weed Trimmer and Edger

Strengths:

This is one of the best purchases we have made! We have a Koi Pond and numerous ornamental trees in our back yard and it makes it almost impossible to use an electric corded trimmer.

Weaknesses:

Be careful with the batteries and do not leave them on the charger. Plan ahead and you can have them charged and ready.

Posted Mar 25, 2007 - With the internet you can now find the replacement batteries are a very nice price! Also they now have the quick chargers, and the dual battery charge so that you can charge 2 batteries at the same time. The Noise level is also much better than the gas powered trimmers. Gas trimmers for us are out of the question!

4 Star Review A REAL WINNER

Strengths:

NO GAS OR CORD, LIGHT WEIGHT, GOOD PERFORMANCE, AUTOMATIC LINE FEED

Weaknesses:

lIMITED USE TIME

Posted Sep 7, 2006 - I would buy this again in a minute. Very light and easy to heft. Plowed through light and medium weeds without effort. I get between 50 and 60 minutes use from the two batteries. I love always having the string at optimum length with no attention!

3 Star Review Black and Decker 18 Volt 12" Cordless Grasshog Trimmer/Edger

Strengths:

You don't smell gas - environmentally friendly.

Weaknesses:

Batteries only last 15 minutes

Posted Jul 6, 2006 - As we have a big yard - the advantage of having two batteries is a plus. The negative is the battery only last about 15 minutes each. Overall, it is still better than the smelling the gas fumes.

5 Star Review B&D NST2018

Strengths:

Powerful cordless with two batteries included, flexible, light, and safe.

Weaknesses:

A little bit difficult to control it in edger mode. The charger can charge only one battery at a time.

Posted May 15, 2006 - I bought this one at local Lowe's and used it four times during the last two weeks. It is almost perfect. First, the two 18V batteries are very powerful and can hold more than 40 minutes totally. It is more than enough for my 0.20 acre yard (for 9 hours charge). Second, Lowes offerred a rebate for additional battery or a dual-battery charger, which gave an appealing deal. I chose the third battery, because I did not care about charging time. Third, This one is safe and light (less than 10 lbs), my wife can even handle this, and she enjoyed it as a toy. At this time, I need practice the edger mode a lot, because it does not give me a straight line cutting, just jigsaw like. Anyway, I like it, and I trust the Lowe's rebate.

4 Star Review Black and Decker NST2018 18 vold Cordless Trimmer/Edger

Strengths:

Easy to use, line auto advance , reverses with a twist from trimmer to edger

Weaknesses:

Battery life is adequate for small yard, if you have a large one , be sure to have a spare. Line that comes with it ran out after 3-4 uses, so get extra.

Posted Jul 31, 2005 - I was tired of trying forever to get my old gas and oil trimmer to start. I decided that since my yard is not too big, I could use a cordless and not have to hook up a long ext. cord. I am very pleased with the 18 volt unit, plenty of power for me. I was even impressed by the way it switched from trimmer to edger. Be sure to get extra line and a battery if yours does not come with 2 batteries. BTW, I even got a rebate for an extra battery ( I got 2 with the unit) or a charger that holds 2 batteries. I sent for the charger. I would recommend this unit. I give it 4.5 stars out of 5.
