Strengths: Long blade, sharp, cuts branches with ease

This tool works great. the long blade allows you to easily reach deep spots without having to stretch or walk into shrubs etc. The sharp powerful blade was able to cut 1/2 inch diameter branches with ease (have to hold the blade against the branch for a few seconds as it cuts into it a little at a time). I have used it to cur simple shrubs with thin branches, to thick bushes/flowering vines with 1/2 inch or so woody branches, with no problems at all.
The trigger lock mechanism is a nice feature, as holding the trigger down for long tasks can get quite tiring. Just be careful as the blade will obviously not stop if you drop the tool. Also, watch out for the power cable as you maneuver the tool, as you could easily forget where the cable is, and end up cutting through it with the blade.
As an example of the power of the blade and motor, while cutting some vines, i accidentally hit a tomato cage wire mesh used to support the vines, and the blade cut right through one of the wires with no problem..even though it was 1/8 inch thick metal wire.
I would recommend oiling the blade teeth after each use, both to maintain lubrication, as well as minimize rust/corrosion. I use basic 3-in-1 machine oil, putting a small drop on each blade tooth where the upper and lower blades meet, and then running the blade for a few seconds to spread the oil.

Weakness: Other reviews I have read state that blades wear quickly and are unable to be repaired. If so this is worrisome.
I have only used this hedge trimmer twice so far so I can't speak to the longevity of the product. But it has done a great job so far and has evenly trimmed a hedge and several shrubs. The cordless model would have been much more convenient but it was also more expensive. In my limited experience this seems to be a solid hedge trimmer and it comes pre-assembled so you don't have to hassle putting it all together.

Weakness: I am concerened about reliability with the Black and Decker name.
Monster cutting edges. Looks evil with all the hardened teeth. I went with the 24" size as I looked at smaller ones and I am glad I did. You don;t have to get deep into the bush as much with a long 24" one.

Black & Decker 24 Hedge Hog Dual Action Trimmer-...

Weakness: The blades
I bought HS2400 trimmer in June 2004. I have used this trimmer for two summers so far and this year I was trimming my hedges and the cutting blade was leaving branches not cut but the leaves cut. I brought the hedger to a special sharpeming place that sharpens machinery. To my surprise the blades were not recommended to be sharpened due to the small tooth on the lower blade was out of line and not repairable. He advised me to purchase a new trimmer with two large tooth and that I was wasting my money to have the trimmer sharpened. I would not recommend this product.
