Steel is stronger, but plastic is lighter and rust-free (the Earthwise is around 25 pounds more mower to push around than the Black & Decker). The Black & Decker model uses a trickle charger, which means you can keep it plugged in. You have to unplug the Earthwise battery when charged. This may sound like a small difference but in this hectic world waiting to unplug the Earthwise battery is one less thing to have to worry about.
