Posted Dec 19, 2006 - Without a doubt, the New Balance M1122 running shoe is one of the best New Balance shoes ever made. I have only been wearing this model for under a year now and am quite pleased with it. I was always under the assumption that a running shoe could only be worn if a person was a "runner" which I am not. Usually, in the past, I would wear a cross trainer as an every day shoe, until a sales person with New Balance mentioned I should try the M1122. I told him my thoughts on if I should wear one, and he mentioned the shoe is designed for forward motion and as an everyday shoe, it would work well for me. He was right, the shoe is outstanding! The comfort level is the highest I have experienced in a shoe, excellent support and cushioning. I wear it every day for normal wear and when I do walking for exercise. I don't recommend this shoe for sports though, such as basketball, baseball, or any sport that has you moving around. If that is the case, try the cross trainers from New Balance, especially the MX1007, MX853, and/or MX621. The MX1007 and MX853 have been replaced with newer models, so they may be harder to find, but stay away from the MX1008 replacement and MX854 replacement models (see my other reviewers here on PriceGrabber on them).
One thing I need to point out that may cause confusion among the people who are reading this review and interested in buying the M1122 shoe. The photo of the shoe that PriceGrabber, as well as New Balance themselves, and other shoe websites is not a correct photo to a certain degree. When the M1122 first came out, the bottom of the shoe had a green-ish blue gel-like look to the bottom sole (see the photo here on PriceGrabber). That is the image of the first generation M1122 which has since changed. Numerous people were reporting that the black rubber pieces on the bottom of the shoe were flaking off the gel section, so what New Balance did was revise the bottom portion of the shoe and made it a solid black and gold piece without the gel-like look to it. That is the only change the shoe has gone through, and it is expected to be a current model for at least another year. Because this shoe is outstanding, and a strong seller for New Balance, hopefully, they won't change it dramatically and have it be a failure like the MX1008 or MX854 model. Sure, the price is rather high, as much as $130 from a New Balance store, to about $80 from an online retailer using a promo code, but the shoe is well worth it. The design can be rather bulky or radical, but overall it is an excellent shoe and one I highly recommend.
