4 Star Review Fantastic Mouse at a great price

Strengths:

2.4 GHz wireless at 800 DPI, Great scroll wheel, Configurable buttons, Teflon pads on the bottom of the mouse, Rubberized grip and side, Recharging base with no stupid batteries!

Weaknesses:

Stylish ergonomics may not fit some folks' hands.

Posted Jan 6, 2008 - (Jan 6th, 2008) Long story short, I used the MX1000 laser mouse (came out roughly Spring of 2005) and it worked extremely well with no hiccups, so I also decided to purchase the Logitech G7 wireless gaming mouse around January of 06. Nice design and good attempt but problems with the clicking mechanism that rendered the first three G7 mice inoperable after 40-60 days. Finally decided that 2000 DPI was great but ONLY IF IT WORKS CONSISTENTLY WITH NO HICCUPS. Decided to try out the MX Revolution as well, and so far, after almost thirteen months, it is working fine. The 2.4 GHz wavelength of the MX Revolution wireless mouse reports laser position at about 570 Hz (times per second)(and it is not Bluetooth compatible). This means that if the software driver is written correctly (more on that in a minute) then the mouse has absolutely no detectable lag at its 800 DPI (dots per inch) resolution (yes, you can almost notice the difference, even compared to the already nice Logitech MX 1000 laser mouse). During the past several releases of the Setpoint drivers it seemed that there were some small flaws with the dual mode scroll wheel but it appears that the Setpoint 4.24 drivers have mostly ironed out this issue (notice, I said 'mostly'). Again, mechanistically, the mouse is holding up fine. Not surprisingly, if you do not install the Setpoint package, Windows XP will recognize the mouse just fine and you will experience no lag problems at all but you will not have full use of the fancy features like the dual mode scroll wheel or search button. These lag problems are also not as noticeable under Windows Vista and there are no problems with Ubuntu, Debian or Fedora. The feet of the mouse are made of PTFE (simply the acronym for Teflon). What this means for the average Joe, is that this mouse feels like greased butter on most surfaces (no difference over the G7 but fairly big ergonomic difference over the MX 1000). The sides of the mouse are also rubberized and feel great with no loss of grip after hours of single session use. And unless you have tiny tiny hands you will enjoy the feel of this mouse. The mouse also weighs about 1.2 pounds which sounds heavy but believe me after fooling with all the problems of the G7 Wireless Laser gaming mouse, this rocks. With the teflon feet and nice weight, this mouse can slide even faster than George Nukcleare Strategery Bush can get us into another futile war, and that is fast! The MX Revolution also possesses a great scroll wheel that can be set up in multiple modes with the Setpoint 4.24 software. Needless to say, that if you take the time to set up the button mapping with the software, then you can use this mouse to do heavy duty office work all day long and then game on it all night. Summary - This mouse kicks butt and the Setpoint 4.24 driver package has solved any remaining problems for me with the dual scroll wheel. Overall, a nice package and excellent choice for only $40 on pricegrabber.

5 Star Review Best mouse I've ever used

Strengths:

Fluid movement, good weight and size, lots of buttons

Weaknesses:

Haven't experienced any so far (although many complain about battery life)

Posted Dec 17, 2006 - I've had a number of mice, and I haven't ever used one that I've been nearly as happy with as this one. I upgraded from the MX1000, for no good reason, really, but I'm glad that I did. The movement on this mouse seems more natural to me, and I like the variety of buttons. The fast-scrolling feature is pretty interesting as well, once you get used to it. I use it all the time on websites now. If you're still using a wired mouse (or a wireless one you aren't happy with), I'd definitely recommend getting this. If you have something like an MX1000, I'd only recommned upgrading if you're very mouse sensitive.

5 Star Review MX Revolution on OS X

Strengths:

You can program buttons to perform different functions like thumb back/ forward button. You can switch between open applications with a single movement with the second scroll wheel.

Weaknesses:

The mouse tracking speed is controlled via Apple's built in Mouse drivers, you will need to adjust the speed using the ‘Keyboard and Mouse’ preferences found in your system preferences.

Posted Jan 27, 2007 - Best Mac OS X mouse i ever tried! You'll need to download Logitech Control Center (LCC) software for Mac OS X from logitech website, it's not coming in the installation CD. With the One-Touch-Search function on top of the mouse you can search more efficient. You can highlight a word or phrase and press the search button. The search is automatic carried out in the search toll of your choice Google, Yahoo, Spotlight

4 Star Review SOOO FAST I SOMETIMES CAN'T BELIEVE IT!

Strengths:

really really fast! no batteries just put in it the base station to charge, setpoint tells you how many days you have left, and small wireless usb receiver that is separate from the base station!

Weaknesses:

may lose the usb receiver but hey... at least it isn't connected to the base station... so i'll deal!

Posted Dec 8, 2006 - great deal! haven't had any wireless issues and I love how smooth the mouse moves! Although it has less buttons than my old mx 740 but I still think it rocks! hope to use it with games soon, but have mostly been using it for business. wish i could customize that the search opens in a tab instead of a new window but im sure they will figure that out in a future version of setpoint! One of the best mice I have had yet! just wish there was a place to put the usb receiver when it is not in use... so worried i will lose it :-P

5 Star Review MX Revolution Rechargeable Wireless Laser Mouse - USB

Strengths:

Innovative design and ergonomics. 2 scrolling wheels. SmartShift Technology.

Weaknesses:

Price may be high for some. No Bluetooth?!

Posted Nov 2, 2006 - Never would have imagined a mouse better than the MX 1000, but then came the MX Revolution. 2 scrolling dials, Smartshift which allows the user to set the main top dial to spin freely or click to click with different programs. Every button and wheel is programmable with the Setpoint software, but I found the default settings to be just fine. The MX Revolution also can go days without charging and it worked immediately after plugging in the USB receiver before even installing included software and drivers. If only it was Bluetooth compatible! Would have been nice to just use the Bluetooth adapter with my Dinovo Keyboard and Media Pad, but with functionality and design - I think I can live without it. No regrets whatsoever with this purchase and highly recommend it anyone demanding extra features from a mouse and comfortable with the premium price.

5 Star Review The best mouse in the market

Strengths:

Design. Ergonomics. Built-in rechargeable battery.

Weaknesses:

None.

Posted Dec 19, 2006 - This is the best mouse I ever used. A lots of new features from logitech: hyper-fast scrolling, document quick-flip, new laser engine ect. It also comes with built-in battery and a charge station. I use it to replace my 1-year old MX610 and I feel much more comfortable than MX610. This is NOT a mouse for gaming. If you want to use it for games, you may be disappointed. Highly recommend for general use!

5 Star Review The best mouse I've ever used!

Strengths:

Too many to list. Controls are placed at logical locations. Wheels and buttons feel very smooth, not cheap.

Weaknesses:

After thinking a while, the only thing I can come up with is the weight is a little on the heavy side.

Posted Nov 8, 2006 - Currently this is my favorite mouse with the VX (notebook)version coming in second. I've owned a lot of mice over the past 20 years, going back to a single button $100 AppleMouse for my Apple IIc, and this, IMHO, is as good as it gets. I feel that the mouse is one of the most used controls on a computer, so it is important to me to get the best. I hate taking my hand off the mouse to do common tasks on the keyboard, and this mouse helps with that.

2 Star Review A great, but ultimately flawed mouse

Strengths:

Fantastic ergonomics, freewheeling scroll wheel, thumb rocker wheel

Weaknesses:

2.4GHz prone to interference, buggy software, sensor location

Posted Nov 17, 2006 - This is a fantastic mouse that unfortunately is brought down by several bad flaws. First of all, the ergonomics of this mouse are superb. The freewheeling scroll wheel is an amazing idea and the implementation is perfect. One flaw, though, is the default method to switch between free-wheeling and ratcheting mode, which is to press down on the wheel. On other mice, pressing the mouse wheel results in a "middle click" which is an often-used shortcut in the Firefox browser to open a link in a new tab. Unfortunately, when the Logitech software is not loaded, pressing the mouse wheel can only switch to and from free wheeling mode. I generally don't install mouse driver software, but in light of the situation with the mouse wheel, I decided to install it. On my Mac, the software seemed buggy and was artificially restricted. For example, the functions that can be assigned to the thumb rocker wheel are extremely limited. Also, once a new action is assigned to a mouse wheel, the old action sporadically comes back, or the mouse button does nothing. I ultimately found a third-party mouse driver for Mac OS that at least did not restrict which buttons could be assigned to actions, but could not disable the wheel switching behavior. The ultimate flaw, however, is the 2.4GHz wireless. The 2.4GHz radio spectrum is very crowded, with WiFi, Bluetooth, cordless phones, and even microwave ovens being sources of interference. When transferring large files over my home WiFi network, the mouse became sluggish, jumpy, and ultimately unusable. Once transfers are complete the mouse returns to normal. One final nitpick is with the location of the sensor on the bottom of the mouse, which is on the right side (beneath the ring/pinky fingers while using it). The sensor on most mice is typically to the left or center. This atypical sensor location makes small movements somewhat awkward. With more use, it wouldn't be too hard to get used to, though. Ultimately yes, the mouse does work, but is a disappointment considering the cost and promise of the mouse's advanced features.

5 Star Review Great Mouse! Best Logitech mouse yet.

Strengths:

Light weight, comfort, features (including scroll wheel). Worked with my MacBook Pro out of the box.

Weaknesses:

None that are significant. Don't know why they use IR instead of Bluetooth, but its a minor issue.

Posted Jan 28, 2007 - In my opinion, the MX Revolution mouse is a significant improvement over the MX Laser 1000, which I have had for serveral years (and before that I had the MX 700). With each interation these Logitech mice have become lighter and more comfortable in my hand, and are offered with better features. I very much like the smooth scroll wheel, which converts to a click wheel from the top (unlike the portable Revolution mouse, which is also excellent, but the design of the full size MX is better on this feature). Highly recommended.

5 Star Review The most advanced mouse on the face of the earth.

Strengths:

Nice design - fits like a glove. Built in battery and quick charger. Intuitive scroll wheel with second scroll wheel available for additonal tasks.

Weaknesses:

Weak software that doesn't give you full contol. (uberOptions to the rescue!)

Posted Jan 23, 2007 - If you are a gadget guy like me, you can't wait to get your hands on new technology. This is one of those items that you should run out and get. My current favorite wired mouse is the Mx-510. It gives you plenty of buttons to customize. The MX Revolution is very similar in that regard, but what makes it different is the brand new scroll wheel which goes from click mode that does incremental movement to free wheeling mode which allows scrolling at warp speed. it takes a little bit of time to get used to, but once you do, you won't want to go back. The design is also really nice and it feels good in hand. Decent battery life and quick charge mean that you won't be without left power. The only weakness is the software that does not allow full customization of the buttons. This is not really a problem, because there is a free little program available called uberOptions which allows full customization. Google it, install it and you won't be disappointed! Overall, this mouse is a keeper and I'd recommend it to anyone.

2 Star Review A (Flawed) Mercedes of Computer Mice.

Strengths:

Precise tracking, ultra-smooth surface glide (feels light), comfortable ergonomics, well-placed buttons, overall attention to detail and quality.

Weaknesses:

FREEZE-UPs, price, short battery life, hard to reach side-wise wheel.

Posted Dec 7, 2007 - Unfortunately, I had to get rid of this mouse after a few months of use, due to intermittent freeze-up problems (a mouse pointer would suddenly freeze for 1 - 3 seconds and start again, yet without Windows reporting any kind of USB dongle connectivity loss), reported by many other Logitech wireless mice users, be it a desktop or a laptop Revolution, or other wireless models. Logitech tech support seems to guess that this is a conflict between a Logitech SetPoint 4 driver and Windows system processes (since I do not use a wireless router), and instructs you to shut Windows services down selectively to figure out which one is causing the problem and keep it disabled. Hmmmm... Perhaps a choice of a mouse should actually determine a required operating system, while we're at it? ;) Switched to Logitech G9 and all is well.

3 Star Review mx revolution mouse for desktop

Strengths:

design

Weaknesses:

laggs sometimes

Posted Dec 16, 2006 - i say wait for the new updates to come out before anyone purchase this. it's cool and all but it's new and comes with bugs. it's quite smooth on any surface and has several features that i like. the battery doesn't last very long. 7-10 days at the max. if it's constantly used then probably 5 days.

2 Star Review A Spectacular Piece of Junk

Strengths:

Best comfort in the hand ever. Even better than the MX-1000! Quick recharge time. Nice array of controls. Scroll wheel "Free-Spinning" mode can come in very handy for some tasks.

Weaknesses:

LCC software needed to configure in OS X is garbage. Tech support stinks. Shifting between "Clicky" and "Free Spinning" wheel modes is a wearing mechanical AND electronic process!

Posted Jan 30, 2007 - Didn't really want to pay the $100 local retail, but needed a replacement for my MX-1000 quickly and the MX-Revolution was highly reviewed and felt great in the hand. Wasn't surprised the installation CD didn't include Mac software. Downloaded and installed the "Logitech Control Center" preference pane with no trouble. Plagued with problems ever since! Firstly and foremost, LCC's configuration software crashes every time i add a preset for a new application and change 1 or 2 settings. When it does so, it is not possible to bring it back by just clicking configure from the preference pane again. One has to quit prefs, rerun, choose the MX, click Configure, and then not forget to switch back to the preset for the application you were configuring so you don't accidentally edit the global settings. Secondly, while the LCC software allows a wide variety of functions to be assigned to most of the mouse's buttons, left and right tilt of the scroll wheel are handled as only one setting, and the choices for functionality are so limited i had no use for any. Tilt is restricted to Horizontal Scroll, Volume, Brightness, and Switch Application. So there's two potential buttons reduced to ONE of limited use. Ditto for the spring-loaded Thumb Wheel. Both backward and forward motion are handled as one setting and can only be used to switch applications, or to zoom, in *some* software. 2 more buttons reduced to 1 virtually useless one. Fourthly, the snazzy main-selling-point Micro-Gear™ Precision Scroll Wheel with it's ability to manually or automatically switch between a standard "clicky" movement, to a flywheel-like "Free-Spinning" mode has problems; in Software if not in Hardware, but likely both. LCC allows the user to set it up various ways (see image), but i found it difficult to strike the right speed for auto-shift mode. Either way, it became very confusing. With different settings for different apps, the wheel can be constantly switching modes as you change from app to app. I finally set all to manually switch, but i found the mouse constantly switching to "Free-Spinning" mode whether it was supposed to or not; plus when set to manually shift modes, the scroll-wheel BUTTON takes on that function, so that's yet another button unavailable for other tasks. When the wheel switches modes there is a notable "clunk". Not that it's bad, but switching is a significant mechanical process activated by electronics. I've owned the mouse for only a couple weeks, and it now won't switch to "Click-to-Click" mode AT ALL! That reassuring clunk has gone soft, and instead of clicky mode, i get what feels like the free-spin mode with some slight friction. All this trouble's got to be some software compatibility problem on my system, you say? (That's certainly what i thought.) I've been exchanging email with Logitech Support since i got the monstrosity and included some LCC crash logs. So far i've gotten very little helpful information, with the gist being, "Sounds like you've got some serious problems there. Have a nice day and thanks for buying this disaster." With a 1 year warranty, hopefully it's going back to the store today! Too bad because it's potentially a great mouse!

5 Star Review Logitech MX Revolution "World's Most Advanced Mouse"

Strengths:

Very ergonomic mouse with the hyper-scroll wheel.

Weaknesses:

Very pricey for a mouse.

Posted Feb 6, 2007 - This mouse is great and has been very helpful in reading long documents as it's advertised to scroll quickly from the beginning of a document to the end of the document. I'm currently in college and this mouse is perfect for reading online writings assigned by professors.

2 Star Review it just looks good

Strengths:

desing, looks, confort

Weaknesses:

battery life, recharge system control sucks

Posted Feb 14, 2008 - I had this mouse for a month, its the third Logitec mouse I had, it work for the first charge fine. After the fists charge it never again got fully charged. I seems to me that recharge internal control its wrong, so no real charge control occurs or something else. The customer service is terrible. I also had a problem with last logitec keyboard. I think the quality control has gone week... I switch brand.
