Logitech MX 1000 Laser Cordless Mouse

Strengths: Nice solid feel. Ideally placed buttons and very smooth multidirectional wheel. MX 1000 communicates as rapidly as a corded mouse, and without latency.

Weakness: Heavy for a mouse, but it feels solid. So it's all good. Shape suits only right-handers.

I own the MX500 and the MX700 and now the MX1000. The MX700 was great product and the MX1000 is even better. Here's the low down.
"While the gain in accuracy does result in better overall user comfort, the difference is flagrant only for certain types of use. If you aren't an experienced, dedicated FPS player or graphics pro, or if you don't do retouching with Photoshop, the move to an MX 1000 isn't really justified, and a good basic mouse will do. Especially considering that $80 or 80 euros is a lot of money for a mouse. On the other hand, if you'll get the full benefit of it and aren't scared off by the price, then don't hesitate."

If you compare the MX 1000with a standard mouse, the difference is like night and day.
FYI.
I don't know of any optical mouse the will work on glass top desks. I would suggest getting a trackball or a mouse pad if you work on a glass top desk. The Kensington optical tarckball comes to mind.

Hope this helps.

MX1000

Strengths: Recharging Dock Station Laser Instead Of Blinding Red Optical Light On and Off Power Switch Underneath mouse Battery Life Gauge

Weakness: No Access To Battery A/C Cord For Recharging Power

I've had this mouse for about 25 days now and its nothing but great. The size of the mouse is quite big but ergonomically it suits my hand well. I've had other wireless mice before like the Microsoft Wireless Explorer. But that did not have a on and off switch like the MX1000. The best feature has to be the recharging dock station and laser instead of optical eye. When you need to simply recharge your mouse, just place it on the docking station, that simply.

Logitech MX 1000 Laser Cordless Mouse

Strengths: Precise, 8 programmable buttons, battery meter, rechargable batteries that hold a long charge via USB or AC adapter, on/off button, long range (over 10ft).

Weakness: Not as comfortable for left hand, but not horrible. Tilt wheel interferes with use of wheel button.

Simply put, this is the best mouse on the market today. I think my strengths are self-explanitory. Several other reviews knock this product for petty problems that are easily solved. The mouse can be charged by either USB or the included AC adapter. I use maxthon browser, support for the back/forward buttons in my browser and other browsers can be achieved by setting the buttons as a "generic button" opposed to specific back/forward. I am only able to test this mouse's range to about 10 feet, but I am willing to say it could go as much as another 5 feet.

This mouse will work on surfaces that many others will not and it doesn't hesitate before moving like some cordless mice.

My only gripes, it's more comfortable for right hands - which I am - but using it in the left isn't exactly akward, I'm sure left handed users have adjusted to right-handed mouses as almost all are. Tilt-wheel is a nice feature, but I hardly use any side scrolling programs and the tilt gets in the way of a comfortable middle wheel button click, which I use often because my middle button is set for double-clicking.

Logitech MX 1000 Laser Cordless Mouse

Strengths: Great smooth feel. Easy to install and program!

Weakness: Can't access battery

One of the best mice I have used!

Major drawback of most wireless mice is that they give you very little warning before it needs recharging. The MX1000 features LEDs that light up and tell you the status of the charge at any time.

Charge time is only 3-4 hours which gives you 21 days before another charge is needed.

Plenty of buttons for programming (8)!

Logitech MX 1000 Laser Cordless Mouse

Strengths: Best Wireless mouse on the market, imediate response to movement unlike other wireless mice. excelent key programablility, very good for games. Charges in less than 4 mins and lasts for 3 weeks!

Weakness: Expensive! Although its wireless it needs 2 wires.

Picked it up for 60 bucks which was a pretty good deal for this mouse. I had to play around with it for a little while before I could get it to work right. The keys are easy to program and are great if you are a gamer. Charging it takes no time at all and it lasts forever.
If you are just a person who does word processing and search the web theres no point to it. But if your looking for a precise high quality mouse look no further.
GO OUT AND BUY IT!

Logitech MX 1000 Laser Cordless Mouse

Strengths: Great responsiveness, works on just about any surface, rechargeable, tilt-wheel

Weakness: Right-handed only

Though I have not yet bought my own, I have had the chance to use one and it was the best mouse I have ever experienced. I own a Logitech MX700 that is near expiration and I am going to replace it with this one. As far as tracking on glass, the website never makes any claim of this sort, and it is not possible anyway since light just passes through. It can, however, track on shiny polished surfaces much better than ordinary optical mice. This mouse is a great option for those who have to use mouse pads with their optical mice due to such surfaces. The price may be high for a mouse, but what a mouse this is. Definitely worth the extra money for me.

Logitech MX 1000 Laser Cordless Mouse

Strengths: A/C adapter a plus when your PC is powered down... (See comment)

If the MX1000 charged on USB or PS2 port, then the PC would have to be powered up to charge the mouse. If you started a charge, then you would have to leave the PC up overnight, etc. I have a notebook, and I power it down. Many people power their systems down. A/C Adapter is REQUIRED for me. Just a thought, I am ordering the MX1000 today. Amazon is the best bet, and the best price (within $1).

Actually USB ports work with the computer powered off, they're attached to the motherboard which is still supplied with power. Even when the system isn't on.

Logitech MX 1000 Laser Cordless Mouse

Strengths: Lots of buttons. Available power LEDs. Tilt wheel. Precision pointing. Overall smoothness of motion.

Weakness: BIG weakness: some major button functions (side scroll, zoom) don't work on Macintosh applications or browsers. Mouse software is spotty. quite heavy.

I'm on a new Mac dual G5 with 2gigs of memory, running OX 10.3.8.

I wanted to absolutely love this mouse. And I still like it very much, but as a Mac user, I must report that it has been a bit troublesome and I'm not sure the relationship will ultimately lead to marriage.

Logitech Control Center software from the included disk didn't work, flat out. Downloaded (the same) version from the Logitech web site and after about 5 tries, got it to function and recognize the mouse. This is hit or miss, though, although once you can get the buttons programmed you're good to go if you don't want to change them again quickly.

GOOD:
The scroll wheel still clicks like the older logitech wheels, but with less of a ratchety feel (a bonus in my mind). Scrolling tempo is nicely programmable.

Button programming is a breeze and once I made it to the software, the interface is very self-explanatory. Should be easy to program even the most obscure repetitive functions. I find myself loving all the buttons (didn't think I would) and even wanting more. Thumb buttons are not perfectly positioned for my smaller female hands - need to readjust my grip in order to apply enough pressure, which is distracting.

Very nice ergonomic design; although heavy it's a gorgeous mouse to hold and manipulate.

Not a single skip or jump with the wireless, something that's been a very pleasant surprise.

BAD:
The very features for which I purchased this particular mouse (zoom and sideways scroll) do not appear to function on Mac versions of the software listed as compatible in the mouse specs (e.g., Adobe Photoshop), nor in any major modern browsers for Mac (Safari, Firefox, Opera, Netscape). HUGE drawback for Mac users, just fyi. Cruise scrolling is also spotty. Zoom has not worked for me once in any application.

Oddly, although the back/forward thumb buttons won't work on these browsers, on all but Opera the tilt wheel actually moves you back/forwards - perhaps not intentional (?), but almost nicer than using buttons, if it were only a little more consistent (unable to control speed of back/forward pagination via the Logitech software, sometimes goes too fast & skips pages).

All in all, if I had a PC and didn't mind the substantial weight (I could see it being a drawback for gaming), I'd buy it asap. As a Mac user, I'm disappointed at the lack of functionality, but it is still a very smooth precise pointing instrument. If you have a Mac, don't disregard it, but do try it out with your most-used programs/browsers before purchase if possible.

With regard to the weight/mass issue, I also had to adjust from a much lighter cordless optical mouse to the Logitech MX700, which feels like slightly more mass than the MX1000 (I have both now). I discovered the cloth mousepad I had used was creating more drag, or friction, on the contact pads of the mouse. I now just use the top of my desk (laminate) and the effort to move it is greatly reduced. I suppose a hard-surfaced mouse pad would also work better.

review adjusted due to improved performance

Strengths: it's awesome all the time! no more jumping after software upgrades!

Weakness: pointer jumps all the time

I edited my original review which was negative. Because after a few software updates, mouse is now working flawlessly. I bought a second one few weeks ago, for my twins pc I didn't even install the Logitech software this time, there is no jumping, I guess as they said the problem was with some hardware, apparently the problem was fixed on my pc with software update.

My mouse started jumping erratically about 3 months after I bought it. The updated software does not work. A thirty-minute long-distance call with customer support seemed to work, for 30 minutes after I hung up. After that, (where we removed all software for the mouse) the mouse's "Parkinson's Disease" came back as strong as ever. It is irritating when the mouse refuses to scroll to the top of a screen or when it actively rebels at clicking on a link.

Logitech MX 1000 Laser Cordless Mouse

Strengths: Can be used without the A/C adapter. LED lights identify the battery charge. Very comforatable in the right hand. Forward and backward buttons, something missing from the Wireless Microsoft Mice.

Weakness: Tilt wheel - Not a fan of Tilt wheels, but otherwise happy with its function. NON USER REPLACEABLE BATTERIES!

I was a little disappoited to find out that I need to plug the base in to charge the mouse, it can be used without the A/C adapter! ON/OFF switch to conserve power is kinda a plus, expecially on a mouse that you can't replace the batteries in.

Logitech MX 1000 Laser Cordless Mouse

Strengths: Great mouse with great battery and easy sliding movement for its weight.

Weakness: None for a wireless rechargeable.

I owned the MX700 and I was very pleased with it, but the Lithium Ion battery for this mouse along with a battery meter was too much to pass up. I purchased it and I was very happy. This mouse is limited to right-handers, but I have no problem with that.

The battery lasts so much longer than any wireless mouse that I have used. It is a Lithium Ion so not only is there no battery memory that can dramtically shorten its life, but the battery lasts longer in between charges. The battery meter is also a great improvement. I like knowing the status of the battery rather than just knowing that it is almost empty.

The mouse is a little heavy, but it is light for a rechargeable mouse. It is very easy to move and responds to movement very well. I don't play many intense games, but it works very well for me.

Logitech MX 1000 Laser Cordless Mouse

Strengths: Ergonomic, precise, no batteries to replace. Very small power brick doesn't cover adjacent outlet.

Weakness: The software!

Excellent hardware. Perfect fit for my small hand, even though it is a large mouse. Cursor control is at least the equal of a wired mouse. Wireless receiver doubles as a recharging stand. Battery never needs replacement.

Unfortunately, the new SetPoint software leaves much to be desired. For starters, the only browsers supported are IE5 and later, Netscape 4 and later, AOL 4 and later and MSN Explorer 6 and later. Expect reduced functionality (e.g. no forward or back buttons) in Firefox, Mozilla, MyIE2, Maxthon, etc., even though the latter two are just shells for IE.

Then there's what Logitech calls the "cruise control" feature, a rocker switch surrounding the scroll wheel which is supposed to allow rapid vertical scrolling. Although the speed is adjustable, it cannot be set to operate at the same linear rate on all pages. Some pages just fly by, while others crawl.

If you want to use an older Logitech device along with the MX1000, you may be in trouble. The new SetPoint software definitely doesn't play nice with the older Mouseware or iTouch. Issues are too numerous to mention here, but include inability to uninstall and loss of functionality. In fact, on Windows 98/Me systems, SetPoint and iTouch can't even be used together.

Because of the comfort and because of the browsing features I thought I would get, I really wanted to like this mouse. Instead, I'll be returning mine.

Strengths: comfort. Accuracy. Good position.

Weakness: Battery Life.. only about 24 hours of concurrent use

Works with Linux wonderfully... Have a regular logitech before
and wanted a "upgrade".. Did my research and bought this mouse..
Worth the money.. I would have paid $150 for it..

Logitech MX 1000 Laser Cordless Mouse

Strengths: Many customizable buttons.

Weakness: None whatsoever.

Aside from the many customizable buttons, the MX1000 shape also contures very nicely with the hand. The mouse is rechargeable so no more spending extra for batteries. I also find that this Laser optical works truly works on more surfaces over a standard optical. A+ product indeed.

Logitech MX 1000 Laser Cordless Mouse

Strengths: High Resolution

Weakness: Requires AC power brick to charge mouse. Does NOT work on glass surface.

I wish I hadn't bought this. It requires a AC power brick to charge the mouse. My iPod charges using the USB connector, don't see why this can't. I thought that this might be useful for my glass top desk. Nope! It does not work correctly on a glass surface. Haven't had the occasion to utilize its increased resolution so I can't speak to that attribute. Otherwise it seems to work ok. To be fair, there was no Logitech info that claimed it would work on glass surfaces, it's purely my error. There has been speculation on the web that it might, just letting people know it won't.

Any mouse that uses light like this won't work on glass surfaces because it measures the differences and movements of the relfected light. Since most glass does not reflect light, it won't work. Putting something underneat the glass like a piece of paper should make this mouse work.

It uses an AC adapter so it can charge when the computer is off. When your PC is off there is no power to the USB ports.

Optical Mouse

Strengths: Works great, I can recharge it when the lights say its low and its very sensitive.

Weakness: Too many buttons. If my hand exactly fit the mouse they'd probably be ideal but it doesn't so i have crink up my fingers to use the extra buttons. Also they don't always do what they are supposed to

The mouse works great and I no longer have to change out batteries every 3 days like for my old mouse. Its very sensitive and has many buttons for versitility. But to reach them buttons I have to contort my fingers in ways they aren't supposed to bend. Also the extra buttons don't always work the way they are supposed to. The only other drawback is the mouse is heavy as a brick. ideal for home defence but I get more tired using it than my old one. Fortunately I don't have to move it much as its so sensitive.

LOGITECH MOUSE MX 1000 LASER CORDLESS

Strengths: Excellent feel and smooth. Fits hand very well.

Weakness: Short battery life, compared to other cordless mouse's I have used. Expensive.

Since I have stuck with this mouse for several months, I have to admit it is of superior quality, but it still doesn't measure up to what I want, so I am still looking for the ideal input device to replace it. The fact that it can't work on glass (nor can others tested so far) bothers me, but is easy to overcome by placing a manila folder on my desktop.

It Is The Best

Strengths: Super long battery life; lots of control buttons; fit and feel

Weakness: I can't think of any

If you want the best mouse available, this one is it. I've had mine for over 9 months and I wouldn't switch to anything else.

Review of Logitech Inc. MX1000 Laser Cordless Mouse

Strengths: Feature laden and extremely quick response - great charging stand and works well for the size of my hand.

Weakness: None that I know of.

This is the second Logitech MX1000 Laser Cordless Mouse I have purchased - I've been using one myself since they were first introduced years ago and just recently bought one for my husand. Obviously I am very pleased with the product!! I especially appreciate the charging stand - and would never buy any wireless mouse that did not include some kind of charging stand. That way it's always ready and the batteries never die.

Love of percision

Strengths: Long battery life Responsive Percision Very rarely random jumps

Weakness: Occasional RF band clogging (took quite a few tries when setting up to find a jitter free band) Laser still can't track a few spots on my 1950s McDowell & Craig steel desk Logitech logo is faded

I like mice with lots of buttons, more the better.

I refused to give up the original INtellimouse Explorer (the original optical mouse with 5 wonderful buttons of bliss) until I was absolutely certain that I could get a mouse that I could fall in love with. I've always been a bit of an early adopter on mousing trends, first person I knew with a mac and two mice buttons back in the days of ADB, first person I knew with a USB mouse, bought the original Intellimouse Explorer literally a month after it was released and now a laser mouse.

The Logitech drivers on the Mac are kinda weak. I strongly urge Mac users to use USB Overdrive as it allows per Applicaiton seemless profiles.

There really isn't enough space to say how nice this mouse is, Illustrator and Photoshop have become easier to use without any random jumping and more percision.

Your computer really only has two places for tactical feedback, keyboard and mouse. I can't say you can spend $65 better to upgrade your computing experience.

Logitech MX1000 cordless Mouse, a great value!

Strengths: incredibly accurate over almost any surface (never skips or weird jumps); wireless RF transmission speed as good as USB2 wired; fits perfectly in hand/good weight; long battery life

Weakness: high price; middle click needs to be pressed harder than average mice

This is the best mouse I have ever had. It fits very comfortably in my RIGHT hand (left handed users are out of luck with these one). I work a lot in computers and with most "ergonomic fit all hands" mice at the end of the day my hand is tired (almost cramped) but that's not the case with the MX1000. The installing and setting was easy and the customization of buttons is really good. The battery life is very good as well (about 2 weeks of moderate work and play from full charge). The indicator is a plus and the battery weight gives the mouse the right balance. As advertised, it tracks flawlessly in almost any surface. The only cons I would think of are the high price (altough there are some stores where you can get it as low as $53 after tax and S&H!) and the fact that to use the middle click (wheel click) you have to apply more pressure than with average mouse (but after using it for a while your finger will get the hang of it). All in all a great mouse for working and gaming!

Logitech Inc MX1000 Laser Cordless Mouse

Strengths: Lasts for a long time between charges, recharges in cradle in a few hours. No battery costs. Extremely responsive mouse with ALL the right features and buttons. Extremely confortable to operate.

Weakness: Cradle needs to be powered, so make room for another wall wart.

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Best mouse I've bought to date! Has scroll wheel, page back and forth buttons, last application button, even scroll sideways and zoom (when supported). At $50 it's a steal!

Logitech MX1000 Wireless Laser Mouse

Logitech, well known among gamers for their popular MX series of optical mice, has officially declared that “optical is obsolete” with the release of the MX1000 laser mouse. This is quite a claim, especially when you consider the obvious cost benefits of optical. Logitech claims that the new laser technology offers tracking power is 20 times more accurate than optical mice. Optical mice are...
