Very Fast Connections using Windows XP!!!

Horrible Drivers!!

Posted Mar 9, 2004 - Using Juno.com for Dial up access and this modem, I routinely get connected between 53,500 and 54,000. The secret. Do Not Use the the US Robotics Drivers. Use the Generic drivers that come with windows xp. You'll also have to use the fax software that comes with xp. I dont think u can get a faster combination than US Robotics and Juno.com

Posted Sep 11, 2005 - Whenever I need a modem for a new system, I always buy a USR. I have found them to be very reliable, compared to other brands. This model installed flawlessly under Windows XP, and has been performing exactly as expected. With the current $10 rebate program, it is an excellent buy.

4 Star Review US Robotics 56K internal PCI modem

Strengths:

Good replacement for my OEM modem. Excellent price

Weaknesses:

USR Control Center does NOT work with this modem

Posted Mar 20, 2006 - I purchased this modem as a replacement for the current modem that came with my HP Pavilion PC. The OEM modem that came the PC was a piece of junk. It's suppose to be a 56K v.92 modem. Yet in the 2 years I've had the PC I've never been able to connect at higher than 33K. In fact the majority of times I only connected at around 28K. I called HP support and they insisted there was nothing wrong with the modem. After much fustration I decided to purchase an after-market 56K modem. I've been consistently getting between 40 - 45Kbps connection with this modem and I notice a decent increase in page loading. The only problems I have is that I cannot get the USR Control Center application to recognize the modem, so therefore I cannot use the Control Center features. The Modem-on-hold GUI feature seems a bit weak also, compared to other manufacturer versions. All-in-all I can't really complain, as this modem came with a $10 rebate from the manufacturer. Plus the $5 rebate from Pricegrabber for writing this review. I only paid $12 for the modem at CircuitCity - so I pocketed $3 on this deal. What a bargain!!!

Posted Nov 27, 2005 - I bought it because I think the brand is very reliable. It turn out to be right. The price of this is much higher than other brand such as stering..etc. But it is within the acceptable range. I like it. It worth the price I pay.

Strengths:

It does what it should when you want it to. Nice features for a really great price.

Weaknesses:

None so far. Everything is fine.

Posted Apr 20, 2006 - I am stuck with dial-up ISP. So I needed a new modem for my new computer build. This fit the bill very nicely. 56K, Fax and Modem. The fax software is fine for what I have to fax. I would recommend this product for someone who is in the need for a new faxmodem.

Posted Mar 9, 2008 - I bought this card just for the few extra things I needed for older programs like faxing on my 2nd machine. Works well with xp - didn't work for vista ultimate - hangs. But that really didn't matter because I needed it only for emergencies for my older xp. Worked each time I used it.

Easy installation

Posted Jun 3, 2006 - The installation for the modem was easy, open the PC case, plug and play within two(2) minutes. Windows XP Professional SP2 (Service Pack 2) recognizes it instantly. The only flaw that I can see with this modem is that I'm only getting 31K of speed, while my older modem gets over 46.6K. With that in mind, I won't recommend this modem due to the slow connection.

1 Star Review Worst service from a company

Strengths:

Have not been able to find any because the unit I purchased was defective.

Weaknesses:

Company support from USRobotics. I have made several attempts over the past 6 months for this compay to issue the RMA they promised in October 2005.

Posted Jun 25, 2006 - While I am sure a properly functioning modem from US-Robtics would perform adequately. Also, the faxmodem control center was very difficult to remove from my system. My experience with this company is the worst I have ever had. I would never recommend the purchase of a product from US-Robotics.
