Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: NO eyestrain, pivot feature, vibrant colors!

Weakness: None

Now I know a lot of you have been complaining about the ghosting, but I have found a fix to that. I play Rainbow Six 3 rabidly, and it looked awesome with my CRT monitor, but that thing was a huge oaf. I got the 191T for my birthday (after pleading for it) and I booted up raven shield for a test. It was GHOSTING ALLLLLL OVER.... BUT I went in the NVIDIA control panel and set Direct3D to use a 60Hz refresh rate at 1280x1024 resolution. BAM no more ghosting in Raven Shield, perfect images no problems at all. I am very impressed by this monitor. Most of the time ghosting is caused by your video card sending TOO MUCH data and making the monitor play catch up, but if you send what it asks for it will be perfect :-) I hope that helps people with ghosting problems.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Very clear stable display, crisp, good color, many useful adjustments

Weakness: can't think of any really, except lack of a guard to keep things like dropped pens from flipping up from desk and hitting or possibly damaging the screen (I made my own Lexan guard)

I bought a 191T (black) in Dec 2002, liked it so much, last week (Aug 2003) I bought one for my daughter, and a second one for myself to use in a dual-monitor CAD station in my office. This monitor model is much brighter and has better contrast than various other LCD makes I could see in person in local stores. It's more expensive than some other makes, but well worth the price. Amazing how much desk space it frees up, particularly if you use an overhead suspension instead of the Samsung desk support. The screen is probably a little coarser than the Sony 19" flat CRT the LCD replaced, but I don't miss the CRT! Text is very crisp, even fine print, and so are fine lines. The 191T is *definitely* easier on my eyes, particularly after long days doing CAD. I don't use the portrait mode, so I can't comment on that. Don't play games or watch movies on my computer, so I can't comment on the monitor's performance with them. However, the monitor ran right out of the box with my CAD video card, w/o having to install Samsung drivers, etc. The 3-yr warranty was a plus also. If there are any dead pixels on any of the three 191Ts I now own, I haven't found them yet, not that I spend my time looking! A very well made product. My daughter's extremely happy, too.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Bright, sharp, decent looking, reasonably priced

Weakness: Pivoting only works with OS9.

I've used this and a Cinema Display 22, and some CRT's. The CRT's have the most depth of image and show the most complexity and uniform color, but they are not nearly as bright.

With shades drawn or at night, where space is no object, the CRTs are best. Otherwise the Cinema display is the most pleasant because it is smoother and less harsh than the 191. But the 191T is a really nice monitor, very bright, very sharp. It's just that in some way I can't really put my finger on, the 191T kind of slightly puts my teeth on edge when compared to the other monitors. This probably isn't the least bit true, but it feels like every pixel on the 191T is surrounded by black, while on the others it's more continuous color.

Anyway, I'm quite happy to use it when I need to. It sure beats the screen on my Pismo.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Good Colors, Good Text. Even small text is very readable.

Weakness: I personally can't think of any.

I have had this LCD for about 6 months now and am very, very pleased with it. Great Color and great text. It enhances my computer experience every time I use it. Looks as good today as when installed. I looked at a lot of other models before buying the Samsung 191T, and this product seemed best of all models looked at, and has proven to be just that.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Bright, excellent display, pleasure to view DVD, play games, and anything you can think of.

Weakness: none so far

I read all the reviews where people had problems with ghosting during games. I am a regular gamer and all FPS and sports games come out excellent. Such little ghosting that I never even noticed. Showed display to friends to find ghosting during game play and no one could find anything. As far as DVD viewing and regular internet use, this thing is a beautiful display. Still and moving pictures come out awesome. I did all my research on 19 and 21 inch LCD's and this one was hands down the winner. Not only was the price the best I have seen for a 19 inch but picture quality like no other. I didn't just do reseach on the internet, I actually went to different retailers around the city and tested a lot of LCD's. For the price and size, this is one of the best LCD's you can buy

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: No dead pixel, clear & vibrant image & colors, super sleek, space saving design. Very thin/compact, light for the monitor size.

Weakness: None so far and none at all perhaps

Everything is perfect. Price was also great. Go for 213t if $ is not an issue, but as it is, as much as it is tempting, it is rather expensive for 2" difference. I also have Samsung harddrive(super quiet)and samsung wireless phone, love them all! Go Samsung :)!

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Slim design. Exellent image quality. DVI support.

Weakness: None

I had this monitor for past two months. It produces much better video quality then Viewsonic VA720. If your video card supports DVI, that's the way to go. I've been playing MOHAA with ATI Radeon 9600 Pro and graphics are amaizing.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Luminous dazzling colors, thin frame, silver, easy to adjust.

Weakness: None

I own a Sony sdm-s91 which is also a 19” flat panel display, and I must say the Samsung emits a much cleaner and crisper image on the screen. I use the Digital connection, the analog is good enough. I would advise this to anyone looking for such a product. I particularly enjoy the tilting feature allowing you to tilt the monitor; I use it to view pictures that have been taken vertically.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Price, clarity, Samsung reputation

Weakness: ghosting

Just purchased this unit and am returning it. The clarity was excellent, and size/finish perfect but noted a severe ghosting problem with (at least) this unit. I was able to connect it digitally simultaneously with my other Samsung LCD (Syncmaster 770TFT----excellent unit) analog, and even though I don't do gaming, just manipulating still pictures across the screen in Photoshop it was very visible. It was not an issue with the 770TFT. I've noted the other comments re ghosting on this forum. Perhaps this is just a problem with certain video card/monitor combinations (I have a Radeon 9500 128 MB). Anyway, I would just be sure and check it out before purchasing. I hate to return this...got a great deal on it, and in other respects it seems excellent.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Desing is good and simple. The performance is better.

Weakness: It is some heavy.

The Samsung SyncMaster 191T+ is a 19-inch TFT-LCD monitor delivering a contrast ratio of 700:1, 1280 x 1024 active native resolution, pixel pitch of 0.294mm H/V, 170°/170° viewing angle, scanning frequency of 30-81 kHz horizontal and 56-85 Hz vertical, and an ultra-slim bezel profile that measures only 0.7” thick.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Vibrant color, sleek and attractive design.

Weakness: Horrible ghosting on video games.

After spending a day doing research on this monitor, I bought it even though some users said the ghosting issue were minor and hardly noticable. I have to totally disagree.
I tested the monitor with Star War Galaxies with the digital connection to a Nvidia GeForce 4Ti 4400. Ghosting was immediately apparent at the character select screen. In game, it just got worse. Other characters running across my field of view had a trail behind them. It was especially noticable on reds. Also when moving my character, sharp details would go out of focus and blur, then return to normal when standing still.
I tried adjusting the brightness, contrast and gamma in game to make it at tolerable, but after 2 hours of trying I gave up and returned it.

If you're a gamer, I can't reccomend this monitor.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: beautiful static images

Weakness: anything other

I've read everywhere that Samsung 191T is the best LCD in the world, high quality, great colors, fast video and games...
Well, now I buy one and I can say people have ham on eyes.
The monitor display amazing static images, but everything is moving have a trail like the Halley Comet.
White-Black switching can take 25/30ms, but with middle colors real response time is astronomical.
Base is cheap, white is cream and color temperature is locked with DVI connection.
This is the best LCD... if you turn off your brain.
Bye Bye Samsung

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: The strengths are color, clearness, sharpness, and value for the dollar. Excellent unit

Weakness: Size not for the money you'll love the unit!!

What else can I say excellent price (down in price again) probably due to the competition in LCD monitors, but I'll take this for the next 3-4 years and get a plasma monitor in 4 years when they're 1/2 price.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Crystal clarity, resolution, reliability.

Weakness: Nothing yet.

As a photographer and digital imaging enthusiast, I wanted a flat-panel that would do justice to my high-resolution images. Well, this monitor is awesome in that regard! For example, I work with 15-megapixel images, and in terms of resolution, sharpness, color fidelity, shadow and highlight detail, and overall quality, they look absolutely stunning on this display! It completely blows away my older 17" CRT monitor. (True, this particular test is comparing apples to oranges, however, I also compared specs of this display to other 19" LCD displays in stores and online, and I think I was correct in choosing the Samsung 191T.) The build quality is excellent, it is always consistent in terms of color and performance, and is of course, easy on the eyes when used for many hours straight, even reading text.
As for the "ghosting" that other reviewers described, I have viewed several DVD action movies on it, with absolutely no evidence of ghosting or trails. Perhaps this is more a function of the particular video card and graphics RAM available, than to the quality of the display. In any case, this is one top-notch display that I would highly recommend, especially to graphics professionals.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Crisp, clear, bright display, awesome rotation to page mode feature, stylish look and quality construction.

Weakness: Haven't found any yet!

I purchased two of these monitors, one for myself and one for my webmaster/publications director. Both have performed flawlessly, and when compared to the other name-brand flat-screens that we use on many workstations, the picture quality, sharpness, brightness and color replication is truly incredible. Add to these qualities the ability to rotate the monitor into page mode, plus raise or lower it on its stylish stand, and this design becomes nothing short of "best in class", in my book. I looked long and hard at many different manufacturers and models of LCD monitor before settling on this one. The fit and finish and functionality of this product leaves many others in the dust, IMHO. I've used it in both digital and analog mode, and also run a television tuner on it, and the image is top-notch with no appreciable edge degradation or "ghosting". The auto adjustment works flawlessly, leaving one with no need to tweak anything. I like this product... can you tell? Now that the prices are falling a bit, I will soon replace all competitors' products with this one. The eyes are SO grateful!

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: 1-Crisp, clear, and bright display even in analog mode 2-Nice ergonomics such as height adjustment, pivot, and swivel base 3-Attractive design 4-Decent (3 year) warranty

Weakness: 1-Sample-to-sample variations 2-Limits in viewing angle makes for the appearance of slightly lower intensity on the right/left edge of the screen when sitting close and displaying a white background.

I think I have the answer to the wide variation in the reviews for this monitor. I had to take two of these home before I got one that performed properly. I think Samsung has a quality control problem with the 191T. One of them displayed 1" dark bands on the right and left side of the display. The other would not synch to analog without moire patterns and fuzziness.

The documentation is sketchy, which explains why one user said that it doesn't have a height adjustment and another said the pivot requires removal of screws. The height adjustment is enabled by removing a little wire pin in the back. The pivot can be a little tight.

Aside from the sample-to-sample variations, my second weakness is quite minor. White backgrounds are fine if you are at least 30" away from the display. Even when you are less than 18" away the effect is only noticeable if you are thinking about it. Note that I have seen this same effect with many other highly-rated LCD displays.

I had a Samsung 171P (Porsche design) and it was absolutely perfect. However, the extra 2" in the 191T is worth the minor difference in price with practically no decrease in display quality.

If you get a 191T that is working properly, you'll find this display to be a real winner.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Great Contrast and Brightness. Excellent view angles. Thin bezel.

Weakness: No height adjustment. No audio built in. External power box.

As I read the other reviews I began to wonder if they were talking of the same panel. Typically 5 stars or only 1 or 2. Some claimed that there was no pivot, others claimed there was no swivel. It has both. Some claimed bad ghosting. We bought this for video editing and I don't see a real problem. Typically in edit systems you have a regular monitor anyway for quality control of real video and for viewing other sources. I am guessing that temperature could effect the liquid crystal response. 19" seems to be the largest native 1280x1024 display size.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Beautiful, small bezel, great auto setup, Pivots 90 degrees

Weakness: Not a big thing, but it can't rotate side to side

A think of beauty to setup and use. The auto button resized the screen to maximize it. No need for using the setting button at all. Recent price drops make this a better buy than the Viewsonic and NEC. Got mine for 702, and the price has dropped 20 bucks since I ordered it last week! Can't go wrong.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Beautiful design, nice features

Weakness: Terrible ghosting, trails

What a beautiful design and sleek look (silver) -too bad there's major horrible ghosting

Too bad it's a total loser on display re: major major ghosting. I was listening to the rave reviews but I have to say that they don't know what they're talking about (or they are using a different LCD display than the 191t.) Don't buy this for anything other than static displays- even then it may ghost pretty bad.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Sleek looking, crisp graphics, bright, perfect for work and fun. I receive compliments from all of my friends on its looks. I also like the straightforward controls on the bottom.

Weakness: Some ghosting in games, but what do you expect it's a flat panel. The portrait mode requires you to unscrew 4 screws in the back than than flip the monitor…kind of ridiculous.

One more weakness:The brightness control never seems to dim.

I researched for a month before making the big purchase. So far doing web-design on the 19in is a pleasure. Even though portrait mode is not convenient, the flat panel is 19in to begin with so I have never had the desire to use the portrait mode. Lastly, I can stare at this monitor forever and not get eyestrain, definitely worth every penny for this feature. I have been completly satisfied with it. Definitely one of the best in its price range.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Crystal clear display, View Portrait or Landscape, Gaming is Awesome. BEST 19" monitor ever !! Comes with Pivot software -Sweet- for Portrait mode (upgrade to 7.0 for free :-)

Weakness: I wish it came with a wall mount, but thats just me being greedy.

I can't say enough about this monitor. It's the most PERFECT display of clarity, graphics, quality that I've ever seen!! I did months of research to find that "perfect" Flat-screen Monitor (went to stores, searched the web, looked at friends monitors ect.. I'm very (anal says my wife) picky when it comes to my computer and all the goodies that I use with it. Like the gentleman on the other review I to bought a "ATI Radeon 9000 Pro" video card to go with the monitor because my old video card (NVIDIA GX 440-64 MG) didn't except the digital hookup. I figured if your going to spend the money on a digital monitor what's another hundred or so to get the complete digital package. The combination of the two is just incredible. I'm a serious gamer and have put them all to the test since buying it. For example, Quake III, Medal of Honor, Unreal Tour.,Rainbow Six-Raven Shield, Soldier of Fortune II ect.... I have a ton of games and tested them all and I have'nt found one that does'nt look incredible. I did'nt see any "ghosting" or "blurring" that some of the other reviewers were talking about (maybe it's there old analog vid card). I also tested DVD movies on my monitor (The Mummy)and it was just like being at the movies, no blurring or anything except a perfect picture.Reading what the guy said about his home video looking blurry I hooked up my vid camera and tested it and the quality was terrific, once again no blurry images.

That said: You can't go wrong no matter how you use it.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Really bright and clear. Good Text Resolution!!!!!!!!!

Weakness: Haven't found any yet.

I purchased a Radeon 9000 driver board to complement the LCD monitor, and it works great. If you don't get a late model driver board, you will likely not have as good a results. I couldn't be happier with the combination that I have, but it took a little while to install the Redeon 9000 board, but after it was properly installed, It is making for very pleasurable viewing. I got both of these products at Fry's Electronics, and the $1000 spent is well worth the price!!!!!!!!!!!

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Brightness; ThinFrame; Pivot Capable

Weakness: Max Refresh is 60mhz

At $700 I couldn't resist. I bought two and now run them side by side in Pivot Mode on my ATI DVI card. I use them for Video editing and the side-by-side pivot gives me a much better perspective to evaluate final product. When I'm ripping movies, I flip them both down to Landscape for a really wide screen. $1400 for this setup was steal.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Great picture and very bright and vived colors.

Weakness: Some blur with games, very little on DVD

If you are a rabid game player stick with a CRT, but if you just play a game now and then this is a good compromise.

The display is wonderfull. Using a GeForce4 4600 with the DVI-D input. Watched Attack of the Clones DVD. If I watched for ghosting I found some, but if I was not looking for it I would not have found it.

I play Tribes 2 allot, and noticed it right away, but after a bit it is not no ticable and does not hurt game play (other than some of the player names blurring when they are moving).

After using this monitor for 8 strait hours I noticed that my eyes did not get as tired as they did with a CRT (ViewSonic P95f). I do some photoshop7 with my Cannon G2 and the photos just jump out at you. It looks like the color is fine as far as I can tell, will give a update when I run some more "tests"..

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Displays text extremely well

Weakness: anything that moves, suffers

I read the rave reviews about this and decided to take the leap, but somewhat dissappointed. This monitor is great if all you do is browse the internet or type stuff, but if you watch any kind of video, even if it's just people doing normal moving and talking, you will notice some blurring, or "ghosting". I tried to watch football on mine (i have a tv tuner card) and when a quarterback would throw the ball down the field, i can't even see who the intended target is because the camera moves quickly and so the entire field becomes a big green blob. Dvd's and Games are the same story.

Conclusion: Good for non-video watchers.

My 2 star rating is only because I like to watch videos and play games. If I did only web browsing and data processing, then it would be a 5 Star rating

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Incredibly clear; big; slick looking; one of the best purchases I've ever made.

Weakness: None so far

The Samsung 191T is a steal. It's cheaper than many smaller models, maybe because it's been out for a while. I did my homework before I bought it. Read tons of reviews, checked prices, went to stores and viewed them in person, and this one wins hands down.

It swivels for portrait mode (requires software), but I haven't really tried that. It supports digital and analog (looks great to me in analog, and my friends despair of how picky I am). Text and pictures are unbelievably clear. I haven't done much gaming yet but I don't anticipate trouble.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: analog and digital outputs, fast refresh time, great contrast ratio, for a 19" flat panel you can't beat the price for the performance, and it looks amazing!

Weakness: None noticed so far.

This is the first flat panel I've owned due to the once high sticker price and lack of performance. But that's a thing of the past. The 191t has amazing sharpness and clarity (I don't know what that other reviewer was talking about)! I use the digital connection via an nVidia Ti 4200 128mb graphics card and it has more than exceeded my expectations. Not one dead pixel either. I highly recommend the 191t to anyone shopping for a 19" flat and definitely use Pricegrabber to find the best price.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Size

Weakness: Very Fuzzy

I'm in the market for a 19" LCD and have come down to 2 models; the 191T and the VX900. I decided to test both units in store before I purchase. I played with both and found that the VX900 was the winner hands down. The 191T's color was very poor and the text was very fuzzy. I asked the clerk if anyone would pay for something that looked that bad. No reply from him. Both were hooked to the analog so I figure that a digital connection might improve it, but for the money I would not purchase this unit.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Great image, brightness, the sharpness! The thin (18.6mm) bezel, huge 19" screen at such a low price(as low as late $700!) and it rotates too!

Weakness: At this price, it cannot go wrong.

What can I say. I've been using a 19" CRT(Hitachi Superscan 753) for the last four years and recently got the 191T after selling the 753. I got it at $1004 from the Nerds.net and now they have it at late $700! It really seems to be in a depression nowadays but at this price, this LCD is a steal. It cannot go wrong, and I regret not. I am keeping it even though the prices have dropped and could have returned it and gotten it else where at a lower price...
I am pretty surprised at some negative reviews, especially ones done at some stores: I suspect that those models had problems but mine worked perfectly. There is a dead pixel (one or two) left top side but they appear once a week.
Overall, the 191T is a steal at this price. Get it while you can.

Samsung SyncMaster 191T+-Silver 19" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Easy to setup, outstanding picture quality for both text and graphics, great brightness, good viewing angles.

Weakness: Some bluriness when scrolling.

Great LCD monitor, highly recommend. Only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because I do not have any experience in LCD monitors to compare it to. My wife is using a 19 inch Samsung 955 CRT monitor and the 191T is much brighter, the screen size is a little larger and the text looks better and easier to read. I've noticed a lot less eye strain and fatigue since switching to this monitor. I'm using it under Windows XP in Analog mode with clear type (note, clear type made a noticeable difference).
