Avoid ViewSonic products because the do not honor...

Strengths: Minimal!

Weakness: If it is defective or fails to work, ViewSonic does not honor their warranty!

The DVI interface quit working after 60 days. ViewSonic tried to convince me that I did not need to replace the under warranty monitor because the analog interface was just as good. I was finally issued an RMA and 60 days later ViewSonic still has not shipped my advance replacement monitor. Every time I call ViewSonic, they come up with a different excuse, all untrue.

That's ridiculous, if one port fails, the monitor should be replaced.

Maybe the OP should have told them his video card didn't have SVGA output :)

kylekanos appears to be some sort of shill. An account whose sole purpose is to report a biased comment/rating for monetary gain. It looks like he works for Viewsonic. Or, he could just be a troll.

I decree that no one else responds to him. Don't feed the trolls.

And I think all humans can agree that if a product under warranty stops functioning as it should, then the manufacturer should, and has a legal responsibility to, replace it, or, if agreeable to both the customer and manufacturer, come up with an alternate solution.

Tis display rocks

Strengths: Flawless display, no-effort setup

Weakness: None

I love this monitor. The display is big and clear, and it has an extremely small footprint. The setup was really plug and play. The monitor did it's own diagnostics, which resulted in a beautiful display.

Great LCD at a good price!

Strengths: DVI (which is more of a standard these days); Very Nice picture quality - the color vibrancy and brightness is outstanding.

Weakness: The height of the display is not adjustable, speakers are quite useless (but who needs them anyway?); 1/8 of inch deep bezel that tends to reflect the picture on the edges.

Reluctantly, I switched from 21 incher to this LCD and I actually like it. I love the quality of picture and space that it saves on the desk -- not to mention the heat from the tube! However, because I couldn't get used to the empty space on the desk, I decided to get a 2nd one (of the same kind) to run it in a dual display scenario. So far, I am thrilled with it! I wish the base could be adjusted height-wise, but no biggie, it tilts up and down to accommodate the distance from the screen. Never tried the speakers so I can't speak for their quality.

Nice replacement for a 21" CRT

Strengths: Clear crispy display. Price is fairly reasonable with DVI input and 8ms response time.

Weakness: Wish they have a button dedicated to switching from analog to digital input. Buttons seems a little fragile.

I have been using Viewsonic LCD (two 18") screens at work. The performance is solid and I like them very much. I was using a Tinitron 21" (19.8" visible area) at home and I was hesitate to replace it since I watch animation quite a bit on that monitor and was worry about the response time compare to a CRT which is instantaneous.

The 21" CRT in huge, use more power and emit a lot of radition. Since I work with computer all day, I think I should switch to an LCD to save my eyes some agony and the 21" is aging. It takes some time for the color to stablize.

I am so glad that I purchase the VA912B. Viewing static content is crisp and bright, definitly better than the CRT. Dynamic content, you can tell the CRT performs a little better expecially when you have fast moving content. You can tell the difference but it is acceptable to me.

One recommendation is to use the DVI as primary input. I actually spend another $60 to get an nVidia FX5500 for the DVI output.

The only one thing I still not used to is the extra space and how light the LCD is compare to the monster CRT.

Nice for the Price

Strengths: Very crisp when used w/ the DVI input. Great price.

Weakness: Poor picture quality when used with analog (VGA) input. Viewsonic's dead-pixel policy is outdated. Colors are a bit off.

This is a fine monitor for the price only if you have a DVI input. In VGA mode, forget it - there are lots of visual artifacts, shadows, etc. My monitor had a dead pixel out of the box. While many other vendors are moving to a "zero dead pixel" policy, Viewsonic allows something like 5! for this model. So I have to live with it. Some of the colors are not quite right vs my old CRT. I tried playing with the color levels but couldn't get it right, but it's not too bad. And finally, the control buttons are a bit flimsy. My 17" Acer has much nicer, more robust buttons than this Viewsonic!

UPDATE - After 8 months, the dead pixel fixed itself! Don't ask me how, but it's fine now.

Great value

Strengths: Bright screen, good contrast, great price

Weakness: Poor documentation (who reads the manual on a monitor though?), no height adjustment

I was very pleased with this purchase, for the low price this monitor is a tremendous value. It has everything I need - a great quality image - and not a lot of frills and extra features that I don't care about. The speakers are small and tinny but placed out of the way at the bottom near the control buttons (and I didn't plan on using these speakers anyhow). A techie co-worker explained the features I should look for - response time, contrast, and brightness - you will not find another monitor with good ratings in all 3 categories for this price (and you will find many more expensive that do not reach the same standard as the VA912b).

Great Monitor, Great Price

Strengths: Ease of setup, good colors, bright.

Weakness: Would prefer not to have the speakers. No height adjustment.

Arrived with no dead pixels, which was a concern before I bought it. As for the speakers, they are a bit cheap, and I would have preferred not to have them at all, since it would have made the monitor a bit smaller, and possibly lower-priced.

I have it hooked-up with analog VGA at 1280x1024, and it looks incredible. I had a 19" CRT before, and the picture on this is both bigger and clearer. At lower resolutions, it smooths the display very nicely and games are still playable, but do not have near the crispness of 1280x1024. I can't wait until I get my DVI video card. The colors are great and do not blur, even when watching full-motion video or playing video games. The bigger display size means that I can have the monitor set farther back on my desk and my eyes have thanked me for it.

The lack of a height adjustment is no problem for me, as my desk is set-up so that the monitor is right at eye-level anyway. From the sides, the color becomes a bit yellow-ish, but this is at angles> 45 degrees.

Budget Workhorse

Strengths: Very Bright, Clear, and Crisp display. Analog and Digital inputs. Speakers good for everyday (not music) sound

Weakness: none

This monitor was bought for an architect's office - we look at monitors all day long. As we needed 4, price was a concern. Some of the older computers did not have DVI output, so flexibility was a must.

Both modes offer an excellent picture, but the digital mode is amazing. The speakers were surprising, as we expected nothing and got a decent non-music quality.

Setup is plug and play - no adjustments were requried

Good Monitor

Strengths: Setup was no problem. DVI cable was included which was nice. Picture quality good. Very good price.

Weakness: None so far.

I like this monitor so far. Good picture quality and video plays good through DVI. I am disapointed that I had one stuck pixel out of the box but I know that can happen with lcd's. Just wish that pixel would not have been just above eye level.

Excellent Monitor and Fast Service

Strengths: Very easy to setup and I received the monitors within 2 days of placing my order!

Weakness: None!

This is a great monitor (I ordered 2). I have had an LCD monitor for several years (I got one when they first came out). My other monitor was really good, but the widescreen view on this model is exceptional and the colors jump right off the screen. I would definitely purchase this brand again.

You pay average price for the excellent monitor

Strengths: easy to setup, bright and clear display quality, good options of VGA and DVI inputs

Weakness: not a height adjustable monitor and no choice in color

If you consider the price, this is a good deal for a 19" monitor with the options they provide. I used to have 17" CRT, I am looking forward to have TFT LCD monitor. I am searching for the best functions and best deal monitor fited me for a long time. I finally make the decision- this is the one. It fits all my needs- response time, contrast rate, VGA/DVI inputs, and speakers. I think I got more than what I pay for.

Awesome display!!!

Strengths: Vibrant colors. And NO ghosting

Weakness: Does not swivel to the side. Speakers are not too good.

I got this shipped very fast from Buy.com for $178 after coupons/rebates/cashback thru CC and Fatcash. Terrific monitor for the price! And getting the brand name of Viewsonic was well worth the price. Although there are comparitive LCDs out there for this price and 8ms, 500:1 contrast ratio, DVI, etc., just looking at the screen you can tell it is soooooo much more vibrant than other LCDs. That seems to the be name brand edge over no names like Fujiplus!

Good buy for the price

Strengths: Awesome clarity. Reasonable price. 8ms. DVI output. Looks great in all-black.

Weakness: tilting the base was difficult the first time.

Bought this item at BUY.com for around $255. Been serving me well for a month or so now. Very happy with this. It's a viewsonic, so i went ahead and bought it without much apprehension and do not regret it a bit. looks great too, as it is completely black.
found tilting the base a bit difficult the first time. was afraid i might break something. apparently they are built quite tough so this might be a plus or a minus depending on the way you look at it.

ViewSonic VA912b Monitor 19

Strengths: 8ms Refresh rate, crisp clear images, pretty good value

Weakness: speakers other than that none yet.

I've been using this monitor for about 2 months now, no problems at all. It was really easy to set up, excellent colors and everything looks great with the DVI that was included. My bf uses it to play computer games & he loves the clarity.

I'm not used to having so much space now that i have the LCD instead of the gigantic CRT! My previous monitors have been Viewsonic as well & i've had no problems with them in the past. Their name has a good reputation & i decided to stick with them. I'm really happy with the decision i made!

The speakers are good for browsing use or whatever but for music as you turn it louder the quality of the sound decreases so i stuck with my regular desktop speakers.
