5 Star Review DFI's awesome motherboard

Strengths:

SLI SATA 3.0 GB RAID 0,1,0+1, 5

Weaknesses:

Poor documentation especially about memory capacity and configuration

Posted Aug 22, 2005 - This board has a lot of expansion capability with 8 SATA and 4 PATA device connections. The RAID configuration was pretty easy. The only thing I needed to do extra was download the new SATA drivers for Windows 2003. I am using 2x1GB OCZ DDR memory modules. The documentation says 512 MB max modules but 4 GB max capacity. Obviously a discrepancy. The BIOS is easy to work with and I had no problems flashing the BIOS with the latest version. Make sure you have a 500+ watt PSU to run all the HDDs, DVD-ROM drives, GeForce6/7 cards, and fans or other cooling devices.

5 Star Review Excellent Motherboard for the Overclocker

Strengths:

Attractive looks, Good Overall Layout, Easy-to-read basic instructions, Top-notch community support

Weaknesses:

Loud & meager chipset fan also located directly under first PCI-Expressx16 slot, Location of chipset + fan seems to make chipset toasty under load, The optional Karajan audio module fits tightly when installed and required some capacitor bending nearby.

Posted May 30, 2006 - Much has already been said about this popular board. The kicker for me when I was shopping for a motherboard for my AMD Opteron 165 dual-core was the community support. Even though DFI doesn't officially support the Opteron chip, there was still a wealth of information available on DFI's user forums and many other websites. This is especially valuable for the novice or occasional overclocker. My DFI Lanparty board has been running stable for four months so far with no problems, with the Opteron 165@2.5 Ghz.
