RAM?

Discussion of Asus P5N32-E SLI Motherboard

Posted May 16, 2007 - I know that it is unlikely that anyone has tried puting this amount of RAM in yet, but does anyone know how this board works with the full 8GB RAM set in place? I saw that a lot people have a repeating complaint that 4GB doesn't work well at all and usually leads to a lock-up. I don't suppose anyone has tried a 64 OS have they? I have a friend who did a custom job using 4GB of RAM and could not use the set to its full capacity until switching to a 64 version of Windows. I'm just looking for some answers is all. I am stepping up to the custom-build plate for the first time and saw this board. It has everything that I really want on a board and at a sorta decent price compared to some others with mostly the same specs. I just want to be completely sure that this is the one for me. There is ALWAYS the possibility for upgrade later, say, when 680i boards are cheaper and more reliable, but for now I was just wondering about the RAM issues, since they seem to be the headlining problem. Thanks to anyone who posts!

But how does she overclock?

Discussion of MSI P6N SLI-FI Motherboard

Posted May 3, 2007 - Ive been thinking of holding out till penryn comes out supposedly at the end of this year, before building a new system. Just built an abit ni8 sli with a Pd 805 last July 06 running 3.8ghz. But, its time has passed only running about as fast as an amd64 4400x2 at its speed. I was thinking of building a c2d sytem with a gigabyte ds3. Thats supposed to be the best 965 board in the 100-130$ price range even spanking 975 boards. But this board would be ideal with sli if its a good little overclocker, over the ds3 without. Anyone own this board? ~Shea

Review available at TomsHardware

Discussion of MSI 975X Platinum V.2 Motherboard

Posted Oct 14, 2006 - http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/10/11/four_975x_motherboards_for_core_2_duo/ After reading the entire review and researching independently I've come to the conclusion that this is the board for the enthusiast to have. Asus has problems with it's RAID implementation, and the Intel board is pretty slow for a performance piece of equipment. The Foxconn just doesn't have the options that an enthusiast wants. I'm gonna buy one - but will make sure that I get the Power Up edition. The plain 975x Platinum doesn't support he higher bus and memory speeds. You can compare them on the MSI site (a bit of a chore, but worth it if you're set on getting the Power Up edition)

Gigabyte GA-K8U-939 help! Doesn't start up!

Discussion of Motherboards

Posted Aug 24, 2006 - I'm upgrading a rather old computer for my dad and purchased this mb along with an AMD Athlon 64 3500+. Now, after hooking it all up, windows never starts successfully and, although the HDD and DVD drive were detected on startup and in BIOS on the first few tries, now they aren't detected at all, and I'm relatively positive i didn't change anything with them. I plugged in another HDD into the MB (alone, not as a master/slave combo with the dvd as it orginally was) to see if it made a difference and it WAS detected, but windows still wouldn't start. So, i know the board CAN detect the IDE drives, but i don't know why it stopped working with the master(HD)/slave(dvd) setup i have. when i hit the power button on the pc, the screen comes on, it attempts to find the IDE disks (usually fails that now) and makes it to the point where the windows loading screen should pop up, but instead cuts to a screen saying it failed to start and giving me various safe mode options. attempting safe mode fails as well as normal windows startup. a few points of note: -the original psu was rated at 300W, but its a bit old. i swapped in a used 380W psu to see if that could be a difference, but it didn't seem to do anything. -the agp video card is pretty old, and the fan on it doesn't sound very healthy. it did work with the old mb/cpu setup thouhg and since the upgrade i've never got to windows to see how it's doing. might that be the problem? -prior to the upgrade, all the things that are now causing trouble worked fine. startup, though long, was successful, the dvd drive worked, HDD was fine; the PC was slow and old, but stable. that was with an asus board and an old intel cpu (i think). I don't really know what else to say. its a brand new board, and it seems able to detect the disks it can't detect anymore. the hard drive/dvd drives are both functional. I can't get to windows to install/update any drivers, BIOS, anything which may help (i don't know). I've never bought gigabyte before and this is making me wish i hadn't. This is my first "upgrade" job, and i've built two PC's before this and i've never had this kind of trouble. Any tips would be appreciated, and if any more info is needed, ask and i'll try to provide it. I appreciate any help you can give me. thanks in advance.

Pentium D compatibility

Discussion of ECS (Elitegroup Computers) P4M800PRO-M Motherboard

Posted Aug 3, 2006 - 2 questions: Can this motherboard take full advantage of a Pentium D's multicore feature, as much as another motherboard like an ECS 945P? Just going by their names, it seems the P4M800 was designed for Pentium 4's, and the ECS 945P may be better designed for Pentium D capabilities. Also, on the ECS wesbite, the Pentium D 915 is not listed as a compatible CPU for the P4M800, although it seems most other Pentium D's are listed. Could this be a serious problem, or a typo? Thanks for any info!

Upgrading the CPU on a ECS 741GX-M Motherboard

Discussion of Motherboards

Posted May 2, 2006 - I just Upgraded/Replaced my ASUS MB with the ECS 741GX-M as shown here: http://geek.pricegrabber.com/search_techspecs_full.php/masterid=2741628 So far it's running smoothe and I am happy with the change out. But I would like to upgrade the CPU. I have an AMD ATHLON AX1700 (Not XP or MP) CPU at 1.47Gb, Socket A/462 PGA. I would like to know if I can replace it with an AMD 2200 MP. I know it will physically fit the 462 pin config. and that my motherboard suppoprts DDR 333/266 SDRAM with a FSB of 333MHz and also supports Athelon XP/Sempron/Duron CPUs. But Can it handle the Thoroughbred Athelon MP at 2200+ AMD Socket A at 1.8GHz without any problem? Any help apprecited.

Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe Vs. Asus a8n sli premium

Discussion of Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe Motherboard

Posted Jan 10, 2006 - The only huge difference I see is that The premium cant do dual sli with 16 pipelines for each card. And that the Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe only has a 1000 mhz fsb... If i'm gonna spend the money for a dual core amd, wouldnt i want a faster fsb? But then at the same time if i'm gonna spend the money for sli, dont i want to have all the pipelines open? If asus would have just made this motherboard with 2000 mhz fsb, i wouldn't have this question. Sli right now costs a whole lot, so why not just by the premium and buy one really nice video card? Could someone else please put there input on this.
