One of the first Steven King movies and it was pretty well done for the era. Better actors than are usually hired for the genre. Looks a bit dated now but might be due for a restoration. I've seen a lot of bad prints shown on television.

Carrie [DVD] [25th Anniversary Special Edition]

One of the first and very well produced film in which the potential of manipulating object with the sheer power of the mind is explored in a "wonderfully terrorizing" manner. Are people ready to master such a power? What psychological pros and cons could such a power cause in the mind and personality of the person possessing it? How would the rest of the world react facing such a "monster"? The movie explores these and other related questions in a tense, touching and terrifying manner. Another classic of its genre.

My biggest complaint about this movie is that John Travolta played Vinnie Barbarino, and got on my nerves from the first scene he was in to the last.  I can't help it, he still gets on my nerves!  Sissy Spacek, however, was wonderful in her appearance and her acting; no one could have played Carrie as well as she.  This is a pretty good adaptation of King's first novel, much better than most of his books made into movies.

This in another classic that I had to give a fair rating, even if it is a little goofy by today's standards. After all, this one is still pretty creepy. I just saw it again about a year ago, and although it takes a while for anything scary to happen, it's plenty creepy when it finally does.

The book was a bit better. The movie played for laughs at a couple of points - big mistake. The movie could have been so much better, Spacek was perfect for Carrie and the mother could have worked great as well with the religious nutso angle.

One of the very best in the mid'70's as this was not better than Halloween, but very close in those days. Scary and creepy as this girl in the first place was messed up by her mom. Despite that you have to wait 'til the end for gasps and screams, you will have to feel some sympathy for her despite that she is so crazy when she is provoked. It will teach some parents to be better after watching this.

They should have just cut out the plot entirely and gone straight to the part where all the people get killed. There was all this stupid acting and s**t. Just get to the blood already!!! The bloodbath is OK at least. But I don't like the fact that they used pig blood-only gallons and gallons and gallons of freshly squeezed human blood will satisfy me! VALIUM!!!

Carrie- I gave it 3 stars for good writing. For a horror film made back in the 70's, the script was excellent, the acting was wonderful. The only problem is, it wasn't really scary. The only part that was scary was the scene at the very end.

A great phychological thriller. I was never terrorized or scarred by it. Carrie came across to me as a figure to be pittied, not be scared of. What is scary is that there are people who would treat people like Carrie that way. Carrie's mother is propably the most scarry person in the movie, if only because their are people like that out there.

Carrie [DVD] [25th Anniversary Special Edition]

I love Carrie. However, I am disturbed by what she had to go through.Carrie White is a tormented and made fun of high school girl. People throw tampons at her. The walls are spray painted with the nasty words "Carrie White Eats Sh*t!"And no one seems to even care that this girl is being unfairly treated. Not even this girl's mother.Unbeknownst to them, Carrie has telekinesis.Basically, in simpler words, She's going to kill them. And they're going to die a very gory death. What I like about this film is that it does not justify or promote what Carrie or her tormenters do.Every bad thing the characters do come back to haunt them. And unfortunatley, Most of them suffer at the hands of Carrie. But in a way, We can't really blame her.The girl gets viciously abused at home, thrown coffee on, shoved, pelted with tampons, and told to "eat sh*t" every day.So it's no wonder why she strikes back at these ruthless tormentors. It may not be right, but we can sympathize with her for the hell she endured.

Carrie [DVD] [25th Anniversary Special Edition]

If this movie eliminated several scenes that were unecessary and shortened it by maybe 15-20 minutes I would rate it ok to good. The only reason I give this a bad(2) rating and not a terrible rating is the above average acting by most of the cast and the better than average work of the crew who made it. The one exception on acting I have is with Spacek. I agree with Ricks view that she didn't really cause me to feel sorry for her at all. She was obnoxious and odd and didn't become endearing at all. The script was good and the director did a good job. The reason I give it a 2 even with the positives is how very boring a movie it is. Not only are there scenes that are better left on the cutting room floor but there are numerous other times in the movie when you basically do nothing but wait for things to happen. The characters are not developed during these boring periods and there is little or no suspense during these times as well. To be so highly rated is odd since this movie has a very low "scare quotient". The scenes with suspense and that are scary are few and far between. There are many scenes such as the shower scene that are strange and possibly disturbing to some degree but there is no suspense or scary aspects to them at all. The pig blood scenes buildup is long and drawn out and it too was not suspenseful or scary. When the blood finally does fall I feel no sense of sympathy for Carrie since Spacek did not present her in a way for me to have an affinity for her plight. I know how highly regarded this film is by many but a shorter version(less boring) with a little more suspense would have been a huge improvement. I may also be a little bias since I have never found Spacek or Travolta to be convincing actors at all.

this was a scary movie. in the era of slasher films of friday the 13th and halloween carrie was a deeper film in which the main character is both good and bad. your scared of her yet also feel really sorry for her. hard to do with a jason or mike myers. carrie had depth. this was and still is the best steven king movie version of one of his novels bar none. very good use of lighting and atomsphere in this movie. for me two images stay with me the prom scene of course but much more frightening were the closet scenes with cruifix and jesus with the glowing eyes. very creepy.

Carrie [DVD] [25th Anniversary Special Edition]

First I should say that I am one of those people that does not appreciate profanity, graphic violence or sexual situations in movies. I think it cheapens them. Therefore most R rated movies are marred for me to some degree. However, there are some R rated movies that I still have some good things to say about regardless. Carrie is one of them. Sissy Spacek does an excellent job with the part. She is creepy enough that I'm kind of scared of her, yet more than that I sympathize and even identify with her. It holds my attention throughout. The thing I dislike most about the movie is that Carrie's mother seems to be a blatant negative stereotype of a devout Christian, which I don't think is fair or accurate. The best thing about the movie is the very end! It has to be one of the best scenes in horror movie history. I love the way they lead up to it with the beautiful music and everything.

I have to admit I only watched this movie because I heard John Travolta had a small part. Otherwise... I didn't really feel any symphaty for Carrie, she was so annoying, as was her mother. I already knew many parts that were going to happen, and they were a lot cooler in my imagination. However it gets 2 stars for the ending. Kinda unexpected and a little bit creepy.

Carrie [DVD] [25th Anniversary Special Edition]

Brian De Palma`s "Carrie", still remains as one of the most unforgettable and enduring horror films ever made. This harrowing, chilling and riveting movie takes a look at a very popular subject; adolescent cruelty. Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) is a withdrawn and sexually repressed misfit who also possesses psychic powers. Brian De Palma`s famous prom scene is electrifying, but it is the final scene between Carrie and her mother that will both disturb and haunt you. "Carrie" is a very distinctive horror film, that combines chilling horror and tragic poignancy, creating a genuinely good movie that should be watched again and again.JUST ONE SHAPES OPINION

Carrie [DVD] [25th Anniversary Special Edition]

You will enjoy Carrie if you are in the mood for an extremly dark and gothic horror film. You need to be in the mood, or you will not like this movie at all. It is extremly dark and moody. Sissy Spacek gives a great performence if you can handle all of the screaming and yelling that goes on. The story is not simple, in fact it's a confusing movie. Carrie White is a teenager who is always made fun of because of her mother who is a total witch, and belives in witchcraft and stuff like that. Carrie's mom one day goes overboard and Carrie gets teleknetic powers. It's prom time and the cutest guy asks her out, but Carrie's mom doesn't like boys so she doesn't want Carrie to go. Carrie sneaks out and goes to the prom and when she comes back home, Carrie's mom has commited supernatural things and tried litteraly slashing Carrie to death with witchcraft.

This was scary, perhaps because her mother was so psycho, or maybe because sissy spacek just has a freaky face. I think it was fulfilling because we always hope we could fight back like Carrie and we also know we've all treated someone badly like the people treated Carrie.

Carrie [DVD] [25th Anniversary Special Edition]

It kills me every time I see it...She's so happy, and you see that bucket of pigs' blood--you know it's going to come down on her, but I wish every time it wouldn't..but then it wouldn't be the classic HORROR movie that it is! And her nasty mother is frightening enough all by herself..And you can't beat the classic performances of Sissy, John Travolta, and the "Greatest American Hero" guy!!

Carrie

Carrie is a horrifying look at supernatural powers, high school cruelty, and teen angst -- and it brings us one of the most memorable and disturbing prom scenes in history.
