Posted Nov 16, 2005 - I had to watch this movie for my 10th grade English class, so obviously i thought it was going to be another one of those stupid educational movies. I was amazed when I found myself enjoying this movie! It was a very emotional story and it even had my class and I reacting and commenting about it. This was by far the best movie I've ever had to watch in school. I'm writing an essay about this movie and how I would change the end and why. Honestly I love the ending because it leaves you hanging, but still resolves the conflict. Two thumbs up for this movie!

Posted Dec 18, 2003 - I have personal reasons for being very fond of this movie, but I think it is probably Costner's best performance. Together with fine work by the rest of the cast, a well written script and some beautiful cinematography, this is a very enjoyable film.

Posted Aug 5, 2003 - This is my all time favorite movie. Every minute of it was great, I didn't even mind his annoying hippie wife. Even Costner acted with a little personality, and Lioatta did a great job of playing Joe. Lancaster was great, everyone was. This story brought a tear to my eye more than once. I remember the first time I saw it on USA, I was moved like I never was moved before. Before I saw this, I didn't think I could be emotionally effected by movies. I was very, very wrong.

Posted Dec 26, 2002 - This is a movie that my entire family loves and always gives the thumbs-up to. On a cold Saturday night when we're all staying in together what can be better than a worthy movie to make your weekend? We've watched loads...'The Bridges of Madison County', 'Shakespeare in Love', 'Memento'...all fine films. But 'Field of Dreams' is arguably the one we take in most of all. Watch it and it's easy to see why...a straightfoward, simple story about a farmer who hears a voice whilst out in his corn field...he fears he's going crazy, but soon learns better...this voice could actually be a blessing on his confused life, if he does what he says...build 'it' and 'he' will come. The result? He tears down his cornfield and builds a baseball pitch, in the hope of attracting the 'ghosts' of dead baseball players. Result...success, but that's only the start of a long and powerful spiritual journey upon which he must embark to achieve his overall aim. Beautifully delivered with some fine performances, and moments of chill, poignence and warmth, this is a modern classic through and through. What's that you say? You don't like baseball? No problem. I don't care for it that much either, but I love this film. The script may present it with as much passion as a religion, but believe me, it's the basic underlying principles to the whole thing that make it so compelling; that is, 'if you believe in the impossible, the incredible can happen' - follow your dreams and you can achieve the best. (Be sure to watch the opening sequence carefully.) So, why have I only given it four stars? Simple. Amy Madigan. I know I said there were great performances but we all agree that she is the film's only real weak point, delivering a streak of childishness and odd acting that probably wasn't the script's intention. Sorry if you're reading, Madigan, no harm is meant.

Posted Jan 5, 2002 - I really liked this movie.A real feel good kind of movie. Kevin Costner plays a man who hears a voice in his corn field "If you build it, he will come"It turns out to be a baseball field which he builds in his cornfield. Months later Shoeless Joe Jackson shows up to pay a game soon other famous baseball players from the past show up. He still gets messages which prompts him to go to New York to get a writer played by james Earl Jones.What I love about this movie is it is about second chances and reconciliation that Ray has with his late dad. A chance to patch up a past with his dad. There are some great actors in this movie.I am not a huge baseball fan but i found myself cheering for the the past baseball players who had a chance to play the game they loved so much. Burt Lanchaster was also great in his role.I would really give this about a 4.5.

Posted Jan 5, 2002 - W P Kinsella is an American treasure and this movie may actually be as good as his book (titled Shoeless Joe). Costner and the always-excellent James Earl Jones shine like angels. If you like baseball movies, and I love them, this is a great film. If you don't like baseball moves, but like films about characters who persevere and follow their dreams, this is still a great film.

Posted May 2, 2001 - wow, not just a baseball movie. I loved it for a variety of reasons, but I really think that 'baseball' was just a vehicle for the expression of sorrow, regret, and reconciliation between a father and a son. Watched it maybe a dozen times, the last 20 minutes always chokes me up. We all look at our parents differently when we get older. We usually get an opportunity to mend fences. Kevin Costner's character had no way to reconcile with his dad, except thru the field of dreams. James Earl Jones is great in a supporting role and provides many, many great quotes in the final scenes of the movie.
