Posted Jun 11, 2004 - I love and awe Leslie Nielson films. Lieutenant Frank Drebin of Police Squad! is my hero. If I were an actor, I'd take his roles anyday. ... This is a great classic with an all-star cast, including O.J Simpson, Montalban, Presley, George Kennedy and baseball star Reggie Jackson. Too bad O.J.'s character didn't get enough scenes because he was almost killed there. ... But what I like about the film is that Frank Drebin makes all these quirky mistakes and he doesn't realize it. ... He keeps the microphone on during a meeting, goes to the restroom and the audience hears him doing his business; he runs over a doc worker with his car and a chalk line was printed on water; I like the part where he hits a post and his car airbag pops up like a balloon. As soon as he leaves his car, the car goes off by itself nearly running him over and he shoots at his car and asked the name of the driver. Wow! And of course he burned Vincent Ludwig's building, got out of the building window, touched a frightened woman's breast and ended up sucking on a concrete dill-dough. ... It made me laugh in stitches; I suggest that you buy this film.

Posted Dec 17, 2003 - Released in 1988, David Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and Jerry Zucker followed up "Airplane!" with "The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad!" which used the same type of dialogue comedy built on background gags. Leslie Nielsen plays incompetent, but lucky Los Angeles police detective Lt. Frank Drebin who is out to find out who shot his partner (O.J. Simpson). With the help of Capt. Ed Hocken (George Kennedy) and love interest Jane Spencer (Priscilla Presley), Drebin discovers that wealthy shipping magnate Vincent Ludwig (Ricardo Montalban) is plotting to assassinate Queen Elizabeth. Eventually, Drebin must foil the attempt while masquerading as an opera singer and first base umpire at a baseball game. Leslie Nielsen and Ricardo Montalban are perfectly cast as antagonists as the former bumbles his way through the case despite the devious schemes by the latter. Presley and Simpson are not much in the acting talent category, but for a film like this one, it makes no difference and only adds to the campiness of the story and humor. The pinnacle of this film is when Nielsen is disguised as the umpire and starts to really get into his part (to say the least). The bottom line is that "The Naked Gun" is a fun and hilarious film that can withstand repeated viewings. In fact, multiple viewings is recommended to catch all the jokes.

Posted Dec 17, 2001 - This movie is funny as hell. This is pre dating all the horrible Naked Gun sequels and terrible Leslie Neilson comedy flicks like Mr. Magoo and Spy Hard. This is when people knew what show the movie was based off of. What cracks me up about it even more these days is O.J.'s involvment in the film. The guy is hilarious! Alot of great stupid wacky humor. Well worth watching.

Posted Oct 16, 2000 - Leslie Nielson is hilarious and the Police Squad! TV series this movie is based on was also, but this movie falls behind. It is funny, but the jokes are too few and too drawn out. I'd laugh, but I'd also get impatient for the plot to progress.
