5 Star Review
Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: 2008-06-29 07:02:00 A fine film with Matthau and Lemon as two polar opposites thrown together in Matthaus small New York apartment. I too would have loved to see the Art Carney version. (the play)

4 Star Review

Summary: 2008-03-14 09:35:00 The appeal of Neil Simon has always been pretty much lost on me, but if you do have to see a movie based on one of his plays, this is probably the one to see. Haven't seen it in years (and don't have any burning desire to see it again), but I do remember laughing when I did, less because of the witty writing than because of the interplay between Lemmon and Matthau. Both actors were capable of going WAY over the top, but they were relatively restrained here, and good. Would have been interesting to see how Art Carney would have handled Lemmon's role. As I understand it, he played the role on Broadway, but when the movie was in the planning stages, the producers didn't want him, for whatever reason.

Summary: 2008-02-29 10:31:00 A lot of people got the vapors over this flick, but I was not one of them. I always thought that the Lemmon character was too much over the top. Any such character in real life should have been defenestrated from the 15th floor early in the movie.

5 Star Review
Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: 2003-12-06 00:00:00 Hilarious film with the two greats Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon. Matthau is Oscar the slob while Lemmon is Felix the complete opposite an anal retentive obsessive neat freak. The two are both hysterical, but I find Lemmon to be funnier, especially in a restraunt scene(as Molfan so rightly pointed out) when Felix has to clear his nose so he makes the awful and hilarious noise. It's classic. The movie was a well made comedy that one can watch over and over.

4 Star Review
Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: 2002-02-14 00:00:00 A funny movie. Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon are both great as the two leads. Oscar was recently divorced and lives in an apartment in New York. Felix just separated from his wife has nowhere to go and moves in with pal Oscar. The trouble starts because these men are as different as night and day. Oscar is gruff, sloppy, and has a "what the Hell" attitude, likes a game of poker with the guys. Felix is fussy, a neat freak. allergic to just about everything. The clash in personalities, is what makes the movie funny. Just trying to live under the same roof. One scene in particular is when Felix is in a restaurant with Oscar and his allergies act up. He makes all these loud noises to clear his nasal passages and the reactions Ocar gives along with the patrons in the restaurant are funny. Well done movie.
