5 Star Review What the ipod shuffle should have been!

Strengths:

drag and drop interface, built-in usb connector, no batteries to change, lcd screen, voice recorder, stylish color, plays multiple formats, doubles as a pen drive

Weaknesses:

no fm radio, only 512mb, only 13 hr battery life

Posted Feb 19, 2006 - Pros: 1) Doesn't use itunes! There are no drivers or any software to install to load it up, just drag and drop! or use windows media player's Sync tool and transfer whole albums with a click of the mouse! 2) LCD Screen shows you the current song, AND the upcoming song! 3) built in usb connector means NO CABLES, NO FUSS! plus it charges the player, so there are NO BATTERIES to change. 4) plays mp3, wma, and ogg files! try that with a shuffle! 5) stylish black color looks way slicker than the shuffle, and it has a place for a lanyard so that both the headphones and the lanyard are on the same end (unlike the shuffle) so you can hand it around your neck and not look weird. Cons: 1) I wish it had an fm receiver, but that's just nitpicking, I know I wouldn't use it anyway :) 2) 512MB is not very much room! I couldn't find the larger 1GB model in black, and it was way too expensive anyway. 3) it only has 13hr battery life, which is a lot but not A LOT. Quick Summary: This is what I wish the ipod shuffle had been! First of all, IT COMES IN BLACK!! that's not a big deal, but it really does look sleek! it also has an lcd to see what you're listening to and what is coming up next. great feature. but none of that is why I really love this thing. The reason why this is a great player is because it is a DRAG AND DROP PLAYER!! you don't have to install that crappy iTunes or ANY piece of software or driver to use thie player! just plug it in, and copy your mp3 files right over! or wma files! or ogg files! I only wish it had a larger capacity, like 4GB!! that and an fm tuner and then it would be the ultimate player! So if you're looking for something compact, sleek, with NO BATTERIES to fuss with or cables to connect or any of that crap, GET THIS PLAYER NOW!!! -SelArom

Strengths:

Multiple formats, multiple language id3 tags, good user interface, drag and drop capabilities, direct usb plug, li-ion rechargeable battery, easy to accesorize

Weaknesses:

No FM tuner, li-ion battery could lead to future problems

Posted Feb 22, 2006 - My son had been saving his allowance for an mp3 player for about 4 months now so I was on a mission to find him a decent player for a good price. I found this deal at one of the stores listed on sale with an additional gift card rebated back. The unit charges from the USB port on your pc. It is a direct plug device which is a nice feature, no cords or extension cables, just plug it right into the usb port and drag/drop your music or use it as a storage device. It appears to be exactly the same size as a shuffle and the knob location looks about the same as well, so you should be able to use the shuffle accesories with this player. The display is nice and sharp and it supports multiple languages on the menu AND ID3 tags. Lots of settings including the EQ settings (including user customizable) and Bass boost feature. You do not need to install the software to use it as you can directly drag/drop to the player, but if you still feel the need, the music manager program is actually not too bad and it has an easy to understand interface. The earplugs aren't too bad either, not the greatest, but better than most included listening devices that I've had. I think the sound quality itself is on par with or better than any other player I've had (I-rivers, RCA's and Creatives so far). My only concern is how long will the battery last before it actually will no longer hold a charge, and how ugly will it be to replace it. All in all, a very nice player at a very reasonable price. I think it's become a permanant part of my son's body now because I don't think the earplugs have come out of his ears since we loaded it up with music.

Posted Feb 21, 2006 - This is a great mp3 player when you take the cost/quality measure. It has a battery life up to 13 hors. You do not need a separate cable or device to charge it. Whenewer you plug it into your computer's usb device it automatically charges itself. Amazingly small, and lightweight. The integrated microphone and voice recorder feature enables you to record voices in the WAV format. It has a 4-line LED screen, which offers multi-language menus. You can also use this mp3 player as flash drive to store you personal data. If you are looking for something cheap and dependable this it....

Posted Feb 21, 2006 - All in a all this is a great player. It plays many different types of files. It is lightweight and easy to use. The internal battery is great with it being 13 hours. It requires no special drivers or software. The price is great with it being $69 at Circuit City. The sound quality is awesome. The only things that bothered me was that the door that covers the USB connector is a little flimsy and that it did not have a charging cable.

4 Star Review solid mp3 player if you buy it at a good price

Strengths:

1) solidly built for working out 2) easy charge through an USB 3) LCD screen 4) voice recorder (not great quality)

Weaknesses:

1) primitive music management SW (esp. if you are spoiled by i-tunes) 2) At times, USB charging can be inconvenient 3) retail price is greater than the ipod shuffle

Posted Mar 4, 2006 - This player is equivalent to the 512mb ipod shuffle, so should pay comparable price for it. I paid $45 @ CC. It's great for working out; it's solidly built. USB charing is convenient on a regular day basis but can be problem if you are traveling and dont have easy access to charge it via USB.

Strengths:

Very nice design, support many kinds of format, and has a LCD screen if compare to Ipod Shuffle

Posted Feb 22, 2006 - I bought this one last week at Circuit City when it was on sale. I feel very satisfied with its nice audio quality and nice design. Probably it's much better than the Ipod Shuffle which comes without LCD Screen. The only thing Samsung could make this Mp3 Player sweeter is to offer the USB extender cable and AC charger or USB charger, then it will be perfect. I highly recommend this MP3 Player for everyone for a decent price.

Strengths:

Required no software, worked for me on a Linux box (Fedora Core 4)

Weaknesses:

Construction seems a bit flimsy.

Posted Jan 29, 2006 - This is exactly what I was looking for in a MP3 player. It met all of my needs: - Works as a USB mass storage device recognized by Linux (I'm using Fedora Core 4). - No software needs to be installed to transfer files to/from the MP3 player. - Able to copy MP3 files directly to the device using OS commands. - Works as a thumb drive for file transfer as well as a MP3 player. - USB 2.0 - Play files in random order. - Hold button prevents accidental button presses when in pocket during run. - Unit is self contained (no USB cable to worry about). NOTE: I have no opinion about the included software, how this unit works with Windows or Macs or the actual user interface (all I ever make use of is the volume controls, shuffle play and hold features). Also, if you don't have easy access to a USB port, you will want to purchase a USB extension cable to go with this unit.

Posted Mar 14, 2006 - I bought this player for my friend as a gift. Before giving it, I tried the player for 2 weeks. I loved it because it is so light and easy to use. The battery lasts up to 12 hours which is more than enough I think. I would be perfect if it has FM tuner. Voice recording quality is awesome. One problem is there aren't too many accessories for Samsung mp3 layers. Also original earbuds that came with player are not good.

Posted Mar 15, 2006 - This is a great MP3 player. Compact, Lightweight, Versatile, and Inexpensive. It has all the qualities I needed in an MP3 player. For the physical size and abilities it is very difficult to beat this product. I love the sound quality and design. The only thing I'm not completely satisfied with is the lack of FM tuner. I would highly recommend this product.

Its a great player and looks very sleek and stylish. If it had come with a car usb charger this would have been an excellent package.

4 Star Review Perfect for a Student

Strengths:

No USB cable or charger which is great for me since I typically loss this stuff after a month. Functions as a USB stick, I am a student so on this device I can carry music and my term paper.

Weaknesses:

No FM tuner not a big deal but would have been nice. Headphones are not the best can hear a little static in lower range of songs.

Posted Mar 1, 2006 - I am a graduate student so this was a perfect player for commuting to school and saving class notes or papers. Another plus player is reasonably priced (purchased at Circuit City). I also tried out the recording feature during a class lecture and was pleasantly surprise. I was seating rather far away but the little player was able to record. The quality of the recording was not the best but good for the distance. The manual that came with the player is useless but thankfully the player is user friendly. They give you software for Samsung player but you do not really need if you have Windows Media Player another plus since I do not need another program on my computer. At first I was worried about the 512 MB of memory but I was able to fit plenty of music and had room left. (All my music is in WMA) Only complaint is the headphones sometimes you can hear static when the song is in a low or silent part (Any other time no static)
