4 Star Review Nice value for the money

Strengths:

Small size, easy to work through menus, FM radio, replaceable AAA battery

Weaknesses:

Weak headphones, lack of removable (and upgradable) memory card

Posted Dec 8, 2006 - Nice unit, been using for about a month. Very easy to download MP3 and WMA files, good display. Seems a bit flimsy on the controls, probably will fail in a year or so, but by then the technology will have moved on anyway. Meanwhile, the unit sits in the car exposed to -25 Minnesota winter nights and works fine the next day. Battery life really is good, at least 15 hours of "real" use.

1 Star Review sandisk not good

Strengths:

small, AAA Battery, comes with accessories

Weaknesses:

virtually nonexistant customer service, poor quality

Posted Apr 29, 2007 - This mp3 player was bought in Dec 06 and it worked well until 2 months later it just quit working. I didn't drop it, I just went to turn it on one day and it wouldn't boot up past the initializing screen. I replaced the battery, and that didn't help. I didn't save the receipt(big mistake on my part) so I couldn't take it back. I went to Sandisk's website which has very little customer service information and after reading another post about someone still waiting to hear back from them, I decided why bother. We have also had sandisk flash drives that just quit working also. No more sandisk for me!

4 Star Review Good Product - Bad Color

Strengths:

Inexpensive; Decent amount of storage space for the money

Weaknesses:

Navigation could be simpler; FM reception is a bit weak

Posted Dec 22, 2007 - I bought two of these for my daughters a few months ago. They like them so much that I bought two more as gifts for family members. I guess I should have read the seller's description more carefully. The picture displayed white units but the two I received were hot pink. Not appreciated by the male recipients.

4 Star Review Good value, missing expandability

Strengths:

FM tuner built-in, great price

Weaknesses:

Not rechargable, no expansion slot

Posted Feb 20, 2006 - Overall this is a pretty good little mp3 player. It's a 3rd generation Sansa so it's very reliable. Only a few drawbacks here. 1) it's thick 2)no expansion (SD) slot 3)no rechargable battery (though you can use rechargable AAAs). If you can grab it for under $55 then enjoy!

2 Star Review It is just okay -- but is going back to the store.

Strengths:

Nice unit for the price. However, mine failed.

Weaknesses:

The SanDisk Sansa-M240 did not last long for me and locked up with an 'initializing' error.

Posted Nov 27, 2006 - I had a failure with the device after about two days of use. I have since returned the device. It looked and sounded nice when it worked. However, it locked up and I had to ultimately return it.

4 Star Review Sansa m240 MP3 player

Strengths:

good size, accessories, price, FM tuner included, flash based memory

Weaknesses:

touchy buttons, cannot delete files from player, monocolor screen

Posted Feb 1, 2006 - Overall, this is a very good player. Not as thin as the Nano but smaller in face size which I think is a plus. The body seems to be built well and the screen protected well. I would be worried about bending and breaking the Nano which pushed me to buy this player. It's been solid so far. Toss the included earbuds and get a better pair for better audio quality. Nice to see that Sansa now has a 2 and 4G model for $50-100 less than the Nano. I may need to upgrade soon.

3 Star Review As long as your expectations are set right

Strengths:

Durable; compact; sounds good

Weaknesses:

battery life; too much scrolling through menus

Posted Dec 29, 2005 - I do like this player. I wanted a Nano but was concerned with its durability. The funky shape works well in your hand - you can easily operate the controls with your thumb. This eats batteries faster than I would like. I think its rated at 14 hours? but I get maybe 10 or less (I regularly update the player though with podcasts so this is probably the reason why). The package does not come with a lanyard which I think is a cop-out. Nice cheap case though.

4 Star Review ITS REALLY GOOD

Strengths:

It is very cheap price, and it's small. It has good sound quality and people wouldn't want to steal it, they would go for something better. i think u can use it as a floppy disk 2.

Weaknesses:

It doesn't have expandable memory which I really need now and, it gets easily scratched. Sometimes I have trouble getin songs on it. Doesn't have the BEST durability but it still is fine.

Posted Jun 23, 2006 - The m240 is for people who aren't obsessed with music and new technology on mp3 players like videos and stuff. If you really like music and new technology than go try the e260 also by sandisk or the ipod video. BECAREFUL WITH IT THE SCREEN IS VERY WEAK AND BREAKABLE!! I have a purple mark on my screen from droppng it!!

4 Star Review Great for the gym

Strengths:

large capacity for its size, comes with sleeve and armband, firmware upgradeable via internet, works on single AAA battery, works with multiple audio formats

Weaknesses:

menu structure takes getting used to, user manual could be better

Posted Feb 27, 2006 - First thing, before you use this item, get the firmware upgrade from the SanDisk web site. Next, read the manual. Both of these will be time well spent. The "Playlist" feature does work, but you have to first go to "Settings" off the main menu, and then turn on "Advanced" off the submenu. The manual mentions this but not where you would need to see it. Also, the player sorts the files according to its own approach, regardless of how you have your playlists set up on your computer. This is my first player, so I'll assume that they all work the same way. The player gives you the option to sort by song title, artist, or album title, so it is important that those items be identified on your computer software before downloading to the player. Also, if the order of songs on an album is important to you, make sure that the track number appears as the first part of the song title, or the player will re-sort alphabetically, which will make you crazy if there is an overlap between the songs and the tracks are cut arbitrarily. If you can overcome these little annoyances you will be very satisfied with the performance for the price.

4 Star Review Sansa m240 1GB MP3 Player is Great Choice for the Economy Minded

Strengths:

Very inexpensive, light and fairly compact, quality sound, nice controls and buttons.

Weaknesses:

Seems sturdy enough but feels very light and outside case is entirely plastic.

Posted Dec 21, 2005 - This is a great mp3 player for the budget minded, or if you're looking for one that will hold quite a few songs, but you have concerns about buying a more expensive player (ie. if you're giving to a child who tends to lose things). The sound is actually quite good, and the screen and buttons/controls are very functional. The color is nice too. The only drawbacks are that it just doesn't feel very high-quality. Very light and very plastic. But otherwise, I don't think you can go wrong for the price (I bought this November 2005 at Best Buy for only $80). Other 1GB players cost significantly more than that. A nice playeer for the budget minded!

5 Star Review Sandisk M240 Review

Strengths:

Cheap, resume play, sound quality, 19 hours battery life, features rich, AAA battery

Weaknesses:

Loose battery cover, flimsy buttons

Posted Nov 18, 2005 - I bought this mp3 player because it was on sale although just came out less than 2 months ago. I also own Sandisk digital audio player, and this is the more improved version of the later. Sound quality is very good. This little unit also comes with FM radio, stop watch, and voice recorder. All features for such a low price compare to other flash-drived based mp3 player. The arm band that comes with the package make it useful when exercising. The rubber cover provides extra protection to the player. The other important feature I like is it uses one AAA battery, which can get it anywhere compare to some mp3 players, such as Ipod which uses proprietary battery, and costs more to replace. Overall a very good player.

4 Star Review Right price

Strengths:

good sound, easy to use, organizes music, inexpensive

Weaknesses:

limited instruction book, small but boxy style, cheesy carrying case.

Posted Nov 27, 2005 - Very pleased with performance. Great price at Best Buy on black Friday ($40). Well worth it. Instruction book leads to a lot of self discovery to use but easy to do.

4 Star Review Good but no perfect

Strengths:

Good price

Weaknesses:

flickering blue backlight

Posted Nov 24, 2005 - In general, its a good player, the sound quality is just good, the earphones are comfortables and the LCD display is very easy to read, if you want something that is cheap, good looking, with a good quality, weightless and small, you have to choose the Sansa. And thats all for now,in general, im pleased to bought this product

4 Star Review Decent qualities in a cheap and tiny package

Strengths:

Definitely the price. With these qualities similar items would cost you 30-35 more bucks The sound quality is nice. You can play around with the equalizer. Has got FM and voice to make it complete.

Weaknesses:

Weak plastic body and battery cover. Inability to browse through music folders created by you on the player

Posted Nov 29, 2005 - I have had it for a few days now. Happened to catch it on a nice deal of $75. I am quite liking it. It may not be in the league of irivers and ipods but this one rocks !! I am loving it ! Go grab yours today

5 Star Review WORKS WITH SUBSCRIPTIONS!!!

Strengths:

WORKS WITH SUBSCRIPTIONS!!! Easy to use - intuitive. Full of features.

Weaknesses:

I've heard of problems using it with audiobooks, but I havent' tried it. Uses alkalines quickly. Try rechargeable. When battery gets low, backlight doesn't respond.

Posted Jan 4, 2006 - In an age where half of the Made In China junk you buy needs to be returned, I'm happy to report that the M240 is truly a great product (even though this too is Made in China!) To start out with, I was looking for an MP3 player that works with subscription music. Buying CDs or even download music is a waste of money for me because I get tired with most music after about 3 plays. Subscription music is great because you can download almost anything, then delete it when you get bored and download some more! I don't know why this hasn't caught on more. I'd think more people would feel somewhat the way I do. I've been making the rounds of free trials on the subscription services, starting with Napster. Now I'm with AOL. The Sandisk works flawlessly on either of the two I've tried, though Microsoft and AOL can be kind of quirky. The 128k WMA that AOL provides are just right. I can load up about 10 albums and only half fill my m240 1gb model! The sound from this thing is great. I replaced the earbuds (fall out of my big dumbos) with $10 Sonys and they sound great together. I also purchased a Belkin Tuncast II (about 33 bucks) for my car, and these also make a great pair. I also went out and bought a pack of rechargeable AAA batteries. Because the unit does go through alkalines pretty quickly. The unit is rich in features. You can access your music by playlist, album, genre or artist. The FM radio sounds great. I've yet to use the voice recorder. The backlight works well too. The display provides a great deal of information, but is a bit small. I guess it has to be on such a small unit. That's another great thing about it. When I hop out of my car, I slip it in a pocket and can plug it into my head phones at work or home. Overall, A great product!
