5 Star Review Recommend SanDisk 512MB MP3 Player

Strengths:

nice design, good sounds quality

Weaknesses:

Control button is a little tiny

Posted Dec 2, 2005 - I got this from Bestbuy on black friday. It's a light weight, nicely designed mp3 player. The blue and white color design makes me feel very comfortable. And the sound quality is also pretty good, better than my older ones. The only thing I feel a little uncomfortable is that the control button is slight and tiny. Although it's a very interesting design, it's hard to click with a big thumb.

5 Star Review Amazing MP3 Player

Strengths:

Small Design Comes with accessories for running/working out Affordable FM Tuner Voice Recorder Takes only 1 AAA Battery

Weaknesses:

512mb (120 songs) may be small for some

Posted Dec 23, 2005 - This is a must buy for economical MP3 users. I only needed a small mp3 player and 120 songs was enough for me. Plus the added feature of a FM tuner was fabulous. Mix that in with the fact that they give you a shoulder strap, carrying case, headphones, and usb cable, this MP3 player really got my attention. Its so small, its great. Takes only 1 AAA Battery and can last over 9 hours. Sure, its no IPOD, but for those who don't care, this MP3 player has my vote.

4 Star Review Great mp3 at affordable price

Strengths:

small size, lightweight, very compact, very nice color, great sound

Weaknesses:

intructions not quite clear enough, short USB cable

Posted Nov 25, 2005 - Great mp3 for the price I paid, around $50 at store in my neighborhood. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a sleek, small portable mp3 player to do sports or take to school. The sound is very good and can be quite loud for a device this small. I have mention again that the instructions are awful. At first, I didn't even understand how to use the voice recorder. Then after some research I learned.

4 Star Review Nice small player for those on a budget

Strengths:

Size, ease of use, drap and drop functionality

Weaknesses:

Screen isn't the best, in terms of viewability and layout. Having a slot (like the other in the SanDisk line) for expansion would be a plus.

Posted Jan 16, 2006 - I got this as a gift for a sibling. It is a limited player, yes, but for someone with limited experience with gadgets like this (not me, the sibling), the Sansa is a great purchase. Add to this the pricing (on sale < $50) and this was one gift that was liked, by both the gift giver and the recipient. Setting it up was a little convoluted (no dedicated ON button?) but that is a minor annoyance. The data capacity of this and use as a portable disk drive and the drag-and-drop (optional) interface makes this a very practical tool/toy for the college student. It can be listened to on the commute to school and used at school to transport work. I'm very satisfied.

4 Star Review Nice little unit

Strengths:

Size, good sound, price

Weaknesses:

instructions or lack thereof, not intuitive

Posted Nov 20, 2005 - This is a good mp3 player/fm tuner, especially for the price. Little to no instructions. Need to go on-line to figure out how to add favorites, preset fm stations, etc. and even then you have to hunt for instructions. For somewhere around $65 though it's a good deal.

5 Star Review Sandisk M230

Strengths:

Affordability, Equalizer, FM Radio, Sound Quality, Stopwatch, Firmware Updates, Backlit Screen (nice blue), Uses non-proprietary batteries, etc...

Weaknesses:

Back light stops working when battery is 3/4 empty, but really not a big deal.

Posted Feb 24, 2006 - I did a lot of research on this product before purchasing as I mentioned. I have several Sandisk Compact Flash Cards that work great including an Ultra II 1 Gig, so I knew the quality was good from the company already, so I gave them a try and found the unit at a great price from Amazon.com. Bottom Line about the M230 (M200 series): The unit is very user friendly and works great. Some positive notes about it are: Affordability, Equalizer, FM Radio (20 Pre-sets), Sound Quality, Firmware Updates, Backlit Screen (nice blue), Uses non-proprietary batteries (big plus in my book), comes with a protective case and arm strap that works. Others have stated the arm band is not any good, but I disaggree totally. I use my unit at the gym several times a week and running on the tread machine, it stays put and never skips a beat (literally). I've never used the recorder, but it is good to have as a memo option if needed on the go. Being I go to the gym regularly, the stopwatch feature is very handy to have also. The equalizer settings (Rock, Jazz, Classical and Pop) are good right out the box. The unit also gives you the option to manually set the equalizer sound which is what I use and improves on the already great sound that the preset equalizer gives. One of the things that really sold me on this unit was that you aren't limited to just one computer to load and delete songs with the unit. I can use any computer with a USB plug (1.1 and 2.0) and add new songs and then instantly play them unlike some Apple products which must have the same computer to be able to play a song. Another key feature is that the m230 uses a single AAA battery and not a proprietary type or IMO, worse an internal type which can't be repaired/replaced easily or cheaply. When your internal or proprietary battery runs out of power, that's it. You can't run to the local drugstore and buy some AAA batteries to continue use. The proprietary type must be recharged before reused. I use 900 mA NIMH rechargeable AAA batteries. The battery life is about 24-30 hours (depending on if the backlight is used a lot) of continuous operation which is great. A regular Akaline battery in this unit last for 15-19 hours. I have used it that long cleaning around the house or plugged into the home stereo. The only minor issues are that the the supplied USB cable is on the short side (9"). If you do not have a front USB port, this can cause a small problem, however, I am able to use my Canon Digital Camera cable for the camera and the Sandisk M230 which works prefectly and gives plenty of length. The other small issue is the back light stops operating when the battery reaches 3/4 empty which is really understandable being it takes a lot of power to run a backlit screen on a single AAA battery. Some MP3 players in this range don't even have a screen nor many other features the M230 has. This was a great buy and I highly recommend it. Overall, this was a great investment and I highly recommend it to anyone on the market for an MP3 player.

3 Star Review Good for playback

Strengths:

playback, FM tunner

Weaknesses:

recording

Posted Jan 18, 2006 - I have a Samsung vy-h200 (64M) and the recording on that is quite better than this one. The quality of the mic is better also. This does not support different quality of recording (low, med, high). My old one did. Since I use this mostly for recording, I was not too satisfied.

2 Star Review Good player in general...

Strengths:

Good player in general, Portable, Well designed, good price, decent inluded earbuds.

Weaknesses:

It died, Short USB cable, AAA battery instead of built-in rechargable

Posted Oct 13, 2006 - This player worked well, until the day that it totally stopped working. I have had it for about eighteen months and just today it stopped working. I might consider buying another one, but i probably won't considering the "financial constraints" of the common teenager.

4 Star Review GREAT FOR ENTERTAINMENT, BAD FOR SCHOOL!

Strengths:

Massive sound, Clear & understandable menus, Easy transfer of files, Good battery life

Weaknesses:

Few… No room for expansion to hold more songs; Would like a “quicker” on/off button.

Posted Feb 5, 2006 - This product has massive sound, which is a teenager's dream come true. The menu is clear and understandable. It is easy to transfer songs to it. The hold button is a nice feature so it is not to go off during school. Batteries seem to last longer in it than it does in CD players. The product even with its strengths has a few weaknesses. It has no backlighting, except when you hit the menu button. While holding 120 songs, it has no room for expansion. It needs a chip insert of some sort to hold more songs. During school it is often entertaining to listen to music, but if a teacher comes up to see if you were listening to music or not, the turn off button is not quick enough to get you out of trouble. This product had many qualities and, as everthing has, a few flaws. The qualities were great and the flaws were rare. I highly recommend this MP3 player to all!

4 Star Review Good for working out

Strengths:

Plug and play, virtually weightless, sounds great

Weaknesses:

No instructions, poor headphones

Posted Dec 16, 2005 - I bought this for working out, and it works well. I plugged it into my computer and it showed up immediately as a separate drive. I loaded some music to the player and out I went. The strap and holster work great for running. I still have no mastered this device, and was disappointed that it did not come with an instruction booklet. The important thing is that is sounds great, which it does.
