Posted Aug 31, 2004 - Despite initial criticisms for its $249 price tag, Apple certainly got it right with the iPod mini. I've had a few flash MP3 players in the past, and I am stunned at what I have been missing. Now I can carry my entire music collection with me, it's a lot more enjoyable -- no more listening to the same 20 songs over and over and over. Battery life seems to be about 7-8 hours, and this thing charges very quickly. It's a breeze loading songs on to it -- iTunes is very intuitive, and blows the socks off MusicMatch. The best aspect of the iPod is it's menu system. When I show people my Mini, they're consistently amazed that I can pull up any of my five hundred or so songs in just a second with a twirl of my fingertip. At $249, it's a must-buy, unless your music collection is larger than 4GB, in which case you should probably spring for the full-sized iPod 20GB for $50 more.

Posted May 9, 2005 - When it tries to synchronize with another instance of iTunes you have two choices: (1) do not synchronize or (2) lose all the music currently stored on the iPod. Also, iTunes would not allow me to store other things I was able to play on the iMac in iTunes (MP3 files located elsewhere on my house network). I don't know that it is impossible to get the songs loaded, but it is certainly not obvious how to do so. I was able to load music from some CDs I had (both purchased and burned collections of songs I have). Overall, the hardware is awesome looking, but I found the supporting software on the Mac and PC to be very disappointing. I have been a Mac (and PC) user since the Lisa came out and found the software weaknesses particularly irritating given what I have come to expect from the Macintosh platform. I suppose my problem is that I do not give much weight to what admittedly is some seriously cool packaging. I also found menu navigation a bit painful, although the basic controls (skip forward/backward, play/pause, etc.) were very simple and efficient, and as these are likely to be 90% of the access for a typical user, I think the time and energy on the user interface went into the right part. To be fair, if you take this fresh out of the box and only use it for yourself, I would probably rate this at least 'satisfactory'.

Posted Oct 3, 2004 - I've been doing some research on the ipod mini and the Creative Muvo 4gb after I placed an order on Amazon today for the ipod mini. I don't think I will regret it because: 1) I hate cheap stuff that sells for high price, especially the Creative Muvo.. it's more like a plastic cheap toy, and it won't come with carrying case anymore! Many people say it's good but thats short-run, probably quit working after a few months. What's the point of changing battery when the unit aint working? 2) For $50 more, get the ipod with 1 year warranty. As for battery problem, well it normally lasts for 500 charging cycles. It really depends on how often you use the ipod. Even if you use up 1 cycle per day the battery life would last for more than a year. 3) Apple internal battery is for sale on the net for ~$50, so buy it and replace it yourself. Hope it helps.

Posted Aug 25, 2004 - I have the 40gig third generation which is filled with my 600+ CD collection which I was using on a daily basis and for extended trips. I never ran out of songs to listen to when on vacation but was not really necessary for my daily commute. The mini now serves as my daily commute player. It holds more than enough songs for more than a week since I only listen when commuting. I always replace the stock headpones with Sony in the ear phonotopias. They block out a lot of street and subway noise and they definitely sound better than the stock phones. The mini is perfect for shirt pockets and has a fairly hefty weight when picked up the first time. More importantly, it doesn't feel flimsy and cheap like other MP3 players. I have a NEX MP3 player that uses compact flash cards but construction is plastic and cheesey feeling. The slim depth is what makes it really shirt pocket friendly. The LCD screen is also the best I've seen on a player this size. I normally use reading glasses but I can actually read the infomation on this screen when using the backlight. And the backlight is very bright. Excellent execution. I've been searching for this since it was announced but it has been hard to find stock. I submitted an order with Amazon on a Wednesday and was extremely surprised when I received it on Friday. They don't advertise that it is in stock but arriving soon. Thank you Amazon, plus it only cost me $236 with free shipping. Apple deserves credit for an excellent design and execution. Buy this if you can find them.

Posted Sep 14, 2004 - Ordered one 2 months ago and finally got it after a long long time waiting. :) I'm very happy with it now. It's very beautiful and light (only 3.6OZ); The sound is clean and configurable; Excellent playlist features; Works as an external hard drive; USB2.0 + firewire interface; Also has some interesting games. Absolutely worth the money!

Befor eit I had a 20Gb Ipod, when I made the swich to a smaller Ipod with less storage I was worried that i would move alot of songs around. This has not been the case and I have not regreted making the swich at all. The armband can get a little uncomfortable after a long run. thats about it. it's the BOMB!

Posted Jun 14, 2004 - Overall, the ipod mini is a fantastic product. The sound quality is amazing, and the interface is very easy to use. The integrated touch wheel and click buttons are a big improvement over the regular ipod interface (separate buttons and wheel). The ipod mini also comes with a belt clip, and firewire and USB cables. Considering these extras, its a great buy.

Posted Jun 10, 2004 - We researched and reviewed a lot of mp3 players and found the IPod Mini to meet all of our expectations. We downloaded ITunes software, purchased music and used it extensively before even purchasing the mini. We found the software extremely easy to use and purchasing songs is a snap. Much better than other software programs I have used. I would definately recommend the mini to other buyers.

Posted Feb 13, 2005 - The good design will charm you when you see it in others hand, but when you have it then the Real charming begins. the thing that i like most about ipods is their ease of use as you easily find the song you are seeking, changing the volume, etc. it's good for doing high impact sports like running as it has a 25 min anti-skipping and an armband. but it has it's own cons too. the capacity is really low as it can hold only 1200 song which isn't enough for many peoples. it also don't support wma which would help the low capacity also wma is a popular format nowadays. the battery life is short too* hrs) but it charges quickly (anyway i prefer zentouch 24 hrs of play back). and at the price is very high to compare with players like zen xtra 30g(around 200$) and zentouch 20g(around 210$).

Posted Apr 21, 2004 - would highly recommend this because it is a great mp3 player. it is a bit expensive but its worth it. can hold the right amount of songs, and many other good things too (games, calanders, organizer, etc.) everyone get one of these

Posted Mar 20, 2005 - I LOVE this product! It is my 1st Mp3 Player, so I was a novice, but it took me about 3 min. to figure it out. The battery life is great, and so charging isn't a daily process. The only problem: I run a lot and to pick a song you must look at the screen. Overall, this is a great Mp3 player, and it is worth the money.

Posted Jul 22, 2004 - this is definitely a plus to the original ipods, it's smaller, looks cooler, and simply more practical. the belt that is included really came in handy when i went jogging. in addition to all of this, the most beneficiary plus to all of this is that it is one tough gadget!
