3 Star Review 1GB MP3 Player

Strengths:

Pretty and good looking.

Weaknesses:

too long to list

Posted Apr 6, 2007 - Do not buy this. It is NOT an mp3 player, it does not play mp3s or wma. If you are prepared to wait for the 30 minutes it takes for the awful software to install (on a 2.8gig intel!)you will eventually be disappointed to find (after you've worked it all out and dismissed the screen that invites you to buy tracks and finally got it to list your mp3 tracks) that the software has to convert all your files to some obscure format before they play. Win2000 detects it straight away, you can copy your mp3s, even play them back through windows media player, but.. they won't play on the device until they're converted, it just says no data.

3 Star Review Sony NW-E003F

Strengths:

Great battery life, small, built-in USB

Weaknesses:

Sonicstage, button layout

Posted Dec 14, 2006 - The Sony NW-E003F is a neat flash based mp3 player. It is similar to an Apple iPod shuffle except it includes a screen. The screen isn't the best because it can only display one line of text so it is not capable of showing that information. I personally felt it is still better than having no screen at all. The great things about this player is that it has a built-in USB. I use it as a flash based hard drive and store documents and pictures. It has a great battery life that last for hours. It also has a 3 minute charge that lasts for 3 hours which is very helpful when you are low on battery life. It's a very light player that fits into my pocket. Its about the same size and shape of a lighter. The problems with the player is that the button layout is not the best. There is only a limited number of buttons on the player itself that it can be difficult going through the menu. I usually have to stop and look at the player to see what I'm doing as opposed to an iPod shuffle that is much easier to use. Another major problem is the need to use SonicStage to import music. Although SonicStage has made vast improvements to its software, it is still lacking when compared to iTunes. However, there is an alternative called voidmp3fm which is a small program that you can download of the internet. It allows you to install a small program into the player and can be used with drag and drop features. Overall, I think this is an okay player for what its worth. There are new sony mp3 players coming out that you can probably find this player on sale or clearance.

4 Star Review Good MP3 with FM tuner, however, bad Sony Software

Strengths:

1. Battery Charges very fast. 2. FM tuner works well. 3. Sound quality is really good. 4. You can upload a lot of songs in it, using the ATRAC format.

Weaknesses:

1. You cannot upload anything on it without crappy sony sonic stege software, which is hard to understand. 2. The player has plastic back. 3. Buttons are small. Problem for some. I was ok with it.

Posted Feb 16, 2007 - I have had the player for two months now. Overall I am quite pleased with it. The display is ok, though small, provides all the information I needs. The FM tuner is great. And using the ATRAC feature, I can cram a lot more songs into it than regular mp3 with similar quality. The battery quality is really good too. The quick charge feature comes in handy. However, I do have two or three rants. Well mainly the Sony software. Just like my iPod, you need the Sony software to add songs. This would have been ok, if the software was as good as iTunes, but it isn't. I hate the software, even after two months, I find it annoying, to the point that I have only changed the songs twice. Also the base is made of plastic. The front looks nice, with shiny plastic and all, however the back looks like it made of cheap plastic. I don't care about it now, but I was disappointed when I opened the box for the first time. Buttons are small, may be a problem for some, I find that ok. Overall I like the player. However, I still prefer to use my old Nano over this, unless I have to listen to FM.

4 Star Review Nice player but Software dependent

Strengths:

Sleek, unique look, lovely lcd, great sound quality and battery life

Weaknesses:

No Drag and Drop facility to load songs, no recording, no separate battery charger

Posted Dec 16, 2006 - I bought this player recently, over all this nice product and nice looks and feels and great sound quality & battery life. It has inbuilt rechargeable battery which lasts for 20+ hours but it doesn't come with a separate charger, you will have to use computer USB port to charge the player but it charges very fast. Bad thing about this player is that it doesn't suppport drag and drop song loading. You will have to use the SonicStage (comes with it) software to load the songs ...which is very inconvenient. Though there is one open source software is also available to by pass SonicStage. Also this player doesn't have recording facility. Overall a good player ....

4 Star Review great battery life

Strengths:

USB plug in direct. light weight , sleek. Battery life!

Weaknesses:

small display & buttons., Sonicstage software

Posted Jan 2, 2007 - I actually bought two of these . A 1Gb and 2Gb, because, it is quite an impressive mp3 player. It's a perfect size of sports or gym activities. Direct plug in to USB port; So no need for proprietary cables.. Sonicstage software and the button layout are the weak points. Battery life is excellent.

4 Star Review Good player, could be better

Strengths:

Size, capacity, sound, long battery life, looks cool

Weaknesses:

Button arrangement, USB cap can get lost

Posted Jan 12, 2007 - This is a good unit for someone who values size and long battery life. You won't get all your songs on this player like you would with an iPod, as it's better suited to carrying around favorites from several categories. I can't comment on the built in software as I'm using the open source software available at sourceforge.net/projec... I find the controls difficult to manipulate, even though the unit can be shifted from right hand (default) to left hand configuration (and I find the "left hand" configuration works better in my right hand for some reason). This is a gadget where reading the instructions for nuance is a MUST DO activity; if you pick it up and try to figure it out on your own you'll miss half the features.

3 Star Review NW-E003 1GB MP3 Player

Strengths:

size is great, FM Tuner

Weaknesses:

Sound quality is not as good as others

Posted Apr 5, 2007 - SonicStage is terrible and you have to use it. Bottons are on all sides so you can't get to them all if you buy the optional case to strap to you arm. Buy the iPod Shuffle instead if you don't need an FM tuner.

2 Star Review NW-E003

Strengths:

Small, light and nicely designed

Weaknesses:

I just want to throw some MP3's on my player, I dont want to have to install more software.

Posted Apr 6, 2007 - Lets get the obvious positives out of the way. Its a nice looking and well designed player that is easily lost in the pocket. Its perfect for keeping in your jacket or laptop case for those times when you don’t have your main player. But then Sony goes and messes it all up by requiring you to add another bit of software to your machine. I just want to throw some tracks on it but no – I have to transfer and convert them etc etc. So as far as I am concerned its back in the box and back to the retailer.

Thank you for the valuable feedback!

5 Star Review Great value!

Strengths:

This unit has everything.

Weaknesses:

Nothing.

Posted Mar 18, 2007 - Although I use MusicMatch on my computer, it was fairly easy to download my music files into the device. I found more features included than I thought possible for such a small package. The sound quality is outstanding. This is a great value for the money.

5 Star Review Wonderful Mp3!

Strengths:

Excellent design! Great sound effect!

Weaknesses:

Nothing so far.

Posted Feb 11, 2007 - As is known to all, sony Mp3 or CD is superior in sound effect. This mp3 is not a exception, either. In addition, the good looking of sony design should be pointed out. It is a potent reason to convince me to purchase the MP3. As a matter of fact, it worths the price. I recommend.

4 Star Review Sony MP3 player

Strengths:

Good solid case design and well engineered buttons.

Weaknesses:

not compatible with Windows Media Player, or other PC-Device sync software.

Posted Feb 3, 2007 - The design of this Sony is very sleek and stylish. The FM tuner works great and is a nice feature to have. Once you get the music on the player it works very well and has a long battery life.

5 Star Review Perfect buy

Strengths:

Small size, FM tuner, multifunctional menu with few buttons, floating LCD display, use as USB drive, charge at any computer for a LONG battery life.

Weaknesses:

No recorder, USB cap may get lost whilst charging and most importnantly Sonic software to upload songs.

Posted Dec 16, 2006 - I have gone thru more than 10 types of mp3 players and was very happy to find this one. The size is perfect for your jogging (esp with arm band, if purchased). I never liked ipods for lack of fm tuner (so that more music is bought from itunes). Sony also gives 5 songs purchase with every buy. U may buy higher memory 2 GB for more storage. Battery is awesome at 28 hr claimed. I ran 23 hrs without any problems. For a quick charge it gives 3 hrs of playback for a charge of 3 mins ! The LCD is beautiful hidden in the usb glossy finish. I didnt like the white headphone wire (seems as if U R from the masses with ipods). The 2 gb comes with black wire. The 512mb is too low a memory for 28 hrs play. Overall, very happy with it....

Thank you for the valuable feedback!
