The Rio Forge was designed for people that like to play hard and use music to play even harder. The design integrates the grippy, protective rubber from previous models with a shiny stainless steel face plate for added durability. Up to 20 hours of battery life allows you hours of non-stop workout time. Comfortable Sport Clip earphones and a redesigned case with armband keep your player and music secure and accessible. Simple menus and intuitive controls make for easy one-handed operation. Stopwatch and Lap Timer make the Rio Forge the ultimate gym or running companion. The FM record feature allows you to record radio content onto your player to listen to at a later time. minimize

Strengths:

Looks nice, very durable, user friendly, many features, easy to use when working out (on belt or armband), long battery life, large memory.

Weaknesses:

Arm band scratches back surface a bit, must reset clock each time unit is turned on, headphones not that great for FM tuner.

Posted Sep 24, 2004 - Another reviewed said that the FM reception isn't great, and this appears to be true, but in actuality, it is the headphones. They act as the antenna and while some stations come in great, others don't at all. Change the headphones and it provides great reception. The headphones that come with it are quite comfortable, though, so keep them for when you are just using the mp3 player.

Strengths:

great shape, lightweight; works well

Weaknesses:

None that I've found yet!

Posted Nov 9, 2004 - I read other reviews and was a little nervous about buying this MP3 player (based on the other reviews), but some of my friends have Rio MP3 players, so I gave it a shot. I haven't had any of the problems that other users have--the FM tuner works well as do all of the other features. It's perfect for what I wanted--running and doing other physical activities. And the price and shape can't be beat. I'd definitely buy another one!

5 Star ReviewThis is definitely one of the best MP3 players out ...

Strengths:

Small size, unique shape, easy to control, additional memory slot (up to 1.25G total!), and FM tuner & recorder.

Weaknesses:

Might be too small for smoe people. No voice recorder. No color screen.

Posted Mar 24, 2005 - This is definitely one of the best MP3 players out there. It's smaller than most of its competitors. And it's unique shape beats those match box type MP3 players easily. Besides, it's easy to hold and control, plus decent battery life and expandable memory. You cannot go wrong with this product. Just make sure your hands are not too big for this tiny toy.

Strengths:

can add unlimited size memory sd flash mem card. ease of use. easy one hand use of controls. very good grip. very good sound. has equalizer.

Weaknesses:

limited formats. how about ogg vorbis? wav format as future large sd flash memory become available. ear phones poor. keep sliding off. limited color choices. poor arm band, unit slides off.

Posted Dec 2, 2004 - a very good sounding player with unlimited capacity as larger memory cards become available. small in size, easy one hand control with good secure grip. limited formats. poor arm band, will slide out easily. poor headphones, keep slipping off. the good outweighs the bad. have new phones, do not use armband and hope additional formats will be added in the future. Recommended.

Strengths:

Great sound, Easy to use, Light, compact design, good battery life.

Weaknesses:

Headphones are not great, and instructions are not too clear.

Posted Jan 8, 2005 - This is my first mp3 player, and I definitely recommend it. The sound is great, and it is extremely easy to use. The armband is comfortable, and the durable design is perfect for the gym. Only problem is the headphones are not great. They broke after the first day. Also, the instructins included in the package are not too clear, but one the software is installed, the computer instructions are a little easier to follow.

Strengths:

Small, light, easy to use. The RIO software was easy to use even for a 13 tear old! External memory slot, controls were intuitive. USB 2.0, 16 hour batter life.

Weaknesses:

The headphones. But with all the personal preferences for headphones this was not disappointing.

Posted Jan 9, 2005 - This was a great player for the features/price. I knew from other reviews that the headphones were not the best. This unit sounds great!

Weaknesses:

Posted Mar 9, 2005 - The arm strap takes a few runs to get use to and I thought the RIO might pop off. But, after a few times hardy notice it and it really is pretty secure on the strap. The sounds is great; for sports this is really a nice product.

Strengths:

Extendable to 1.25GB storage with SD card! Comes with Arm band and Ear Phone.

Weaknesses:

A little too large for the size. FM sometimes is not very clear.

Posted Jun 6, 2005 - It is a very good MP3 player with built-in FM tuner. The version I got came with built-in 256MB memory. But it can be extended to up to 1.25GB with SD card! It is nice to come with arm band and ear phone. The price is not too bad if RIO mgf $50 rebate comes as promised.

Strengths:

Weaknesses:

Posted May 28, 2005 - This is a wonderful Mp3 player. Good shape, Execellent sound quantily. Good user software. The Forge is easy to use right out of the box, thanks to its straightforward user interface. The Menu button takes you into a list of main options, from which you can easily navigate through the player's many features. Playback options are plentiful; you can play all or sort by one of the nine other fields: Album, Artist, Genre, Track, Year, New Music, Playlist, Spoken Word, and FM Recordings. Unfortunately, you can't create playlists on the fly. The Settings sub-menu isn't lacking much either. Among other things, you can choose how you want the Hold switch applied (to all the controls or to just certain ones) and select from seven different equalizer settings: Custom, EQ Off, Rock, Jazz, Classical, Pop, and Trance. You can also bookmark up to nine tracks.
