Like its famous siblings, iPod Photo features the touch-sensitive Apple Click Wheel that?s the envy of the industry. You?ll use it to navigate iPod Photo?s menu. Now in living color, it's easier to read than ever. That?s thanks in part to the clarity of the display - it offers 220x176-pixel resolution - and in part to the Myriad typeface. Spin the wheel to Music, and you can scroll effortlessly through dozens of playlists, hundreds of albums or thousand of songs.Or highlight Photos. iPod Photo displays 25 full-color thumbnails at a time. And you can scroll through them the same way you scroll through song titles. Quickly. Just spin the wheel to see more. And when you see a photo you?d like displayed all by its lonesome, just click the center button and voila. No one will have to say ?cheese? as long as you have iPod Photo around. Whether you?re listening to tunes or checking out photos, you?re sure to be all smiles.Use the included AV cable to connect iPod Photo to a projector or TV. You can mesmerize friends and family with a glorious multimedia experience, offering them a breathtaking slideshow accompanied by the music you already have on your iPod Photo. Of course, you get to choose the songs, albums or playlists.Whether you?re on a transcontinental flight or an extra long hike, if you plan to listen to music for hours and hours, iPod Photo has you covered. Fully charged, it lets you enjoy up to 15 hours of continuous music; or up to 5 hours of continuous slideshows with music. Use the FireWire or USB 2.0 cables to quickly charge the batteries. Or use the iPod Photo Dock that comes with both 40GB and 60GB models. minimize

Strengths:

Good storage capacity Design Very nice interface Size and weight, considering the capacity

Weaknesses:

Very easy to scratch, even on the back

Posted May 19, 2005 - I own my iPod photo for 2 months and I am very pleased with it. It is very stylish, it has a great interface (very easy to go through your songs, and 40 gigs of songs require a very good interface!) It is very resistant to shock (I dropped it on concrete while it was working from about 3 feet and nothing happened, just a little dent in the plastic cover). The software to manage the music on your PC/Mac - iTunes is excellent. Unfortunately, after 2 months, my iPod has some minor scratches.

Strengths:

Nice color screen and weight. Good sound output. Accessories that come with are very nice as well.

Weaknesses:

Easily scratched

Posted Apr 4, 2005 - Definitely get this ipod over a new 30 gb. This ipod comes with $110 worth of accessories including a carrying case. You need a carrying case to at least protect your ipod right when you open it from the box. The ipod delivers very good sound output along with equalizer settings.

Strengths:

Big Hard Drive, comes with carrying case and cradle. Nice color makes it more fun to use!

Weaknesses:

No FM Tuner, a little large and heavy although usable and smaller than any cd player. Costs $350 for me, but still a lot for a mp3 player. Carrying case is only good for carrying.

Posted Apr 26, 2005 - Overall I liked the ipod design, and I wished that I had one for the longest time because almost everyone on campus had one! Its a great product but don't know if its worth anyone's $350.

Strengths:

multi-use, portability, ease of use, interface w/PC

Weaknesses:

non apparent yet

Posted Mar 12, 2005 - This was a gift to my husband who spends each day moving around his studio while painting....the I-pod has made an incredible difference in his life!! Now he can listen to opera (ugh) as he works, while I can enjoy the relative quiet I need to work alongside him. The photo feature has been terrific as an added bonus of a portable portfolio of his completed paintings. We had hesitated purchasing this product after reading of the problems with PCs, but he had no problems at all and highly recommends it.

Weaknesses:

Posted Apr 18, 2005 - Its not too heavy as some people say. The screen, functionality is very user friendly. iTunes is not that great. Not very intuitive. Its great though if you are traveling and purchase the iPod Camera Connector. Transfer speeds aren't the best, but you can view the pictures imediately after upload which is probably why the transfer speed is slow, quick conversions of each pic to display thumbnail views. I would definitely recommend people to purchase this item if you want a pure mp3 player and photo viewing.

Strengths:

ease of use, simplicity, storage capacity

Weaknesses:

I use a PC, and the first time I installed the dock with the software, it stayed in "do not disconnect" mode and the computer had to be restarted. It works fine now.

Posted Dec 29, 2004 - The 40GB IPod is a great product for three reasons: Storage Capacity (big plus for its size), simplistic controls (large buttons, click wheel, solid feel) and ease of use (including I-Tunes and downloading of music). The design of the product is very good.

Strengths:

Large capacity storage, nice color LCD display, simple intuitive design, great sound quality.

Weaknesses:

Expensive. Slightly larger than non-color iPods. Exterior can be easily scratched, so you may want to buy additional protective sleeves/skins for it.

Posted Feb 20, 2005 - Like all iPods, this is one of the best MP3 players on the market. It's compact and easy to use. Color LCD is a nice feature to store images and photos, so you can browse them when you use your iPod. I wished the exterior was more scratch resistant.

Strengths:

Large capacity, nice color screen, easy to use, good sound, light weight

Weaknesses:

none

Posted May 4, 2005 - I love this Ipod! I've put well over 200 cds worth of music on it (192 bitrate) and still have over 23GB of space left over. All the extras you get with the 40GB Ipod are well worth the slightly higher price you pay over the 30GB model. I've also picked up an audio cable at Radio Shack for $6.99 to hook it to my stereo system and it sounds great. There's no need to to get the more expensive cable Apple sells. I would also recommend you get a hard case for it just for a little extra protection. It's well built and seems able to take any abuse I've given it so far but I like having the hard case for the peace of mind, after all what's a few more dollars to protect your investment. I haven't tried using the photo option yet. The screen isn't any bigger than most digital camera screens so I would guess the picture quality would be about the same. It's nice though to have the option of hooking it to a tv with the provided av cables to get a bigger picture that everyone can see at the same time.

Strengths:

I tunes worked superbly

Weaknesses:

Windows XP and this unit uncompatible

Posted Jan 3, 2005 - Opened this unit on Christmas and installed the Itunes and Ipod unit. After uploading a bunch of music to my computer hardrive, the torment began. Supposedly the plug and play nature of this unit was supposed to directly transfer music to Ipod...NOT THE CASE!!! I struggled all day on the 26th to finally get the unit loaded and though the problem was resolved...NOPE!! The unit refused to be recognized by the USB XP combo. After 4 more hours of screwing aounf via the " Award winning websits support area" and re-formating, updating ( Where all files are erased) and reloading I was back where I started. I attempted to go online and activate the i-support program, and that would not even work. I eventually found a well hidden 1-800 number and spent 2 hours on hold, listening to muzak, and whwn I finally got a human, she proceeded to read me the info right off the web pages...when I informed her that we had already done ALL that a number of times, she dissapeared, only to be replaced by more muzak...After 20 minutes I hung up and redialed...Only to get put on hold again, and when a human finally did come on, they told me I was in the wrong department and would transfer me so I could " Wait in line again" I told said apple employee not to bother and that I waould return the $500 unit, the 2 year ( $59.00) service plan and not bother the m anymore with my trivial needs. I guess spending $600.00 ( with tax) on an ipod photo grants them a unique position to belittle Windows users? Is it they just dont care? PS... I'm dumping my shares of apple while they are still over priced...

Strengths:

Good sound, small and easy to access information

Weaknesses:

POOR PC Support. Will not function also to hold contact information if have a PC and and older Palm.

Posted Dec 22, 2004 - DO NOT BUY if a PC user. NO support after one "courtesy" help unless you get the additional $60 extended warranty. Warranty only 90 days and one call. NO help for problems in poor help documentation or online. I struggled for 3 solid days with it to get various aspects to work, i.e. accessing CD ROM drive, finding out how to access the ipod from my PC, etc. You might consider another. I am looking at the iRiver H320. AT least it has a one year warranty and an 800# without apparant restrictions.

Strengths:

Huge amount of space for pictures and music. Great nice design, easy to setup, quick instructions. Very very long battery life. Easy to upload more music and photos. Great software.

Weaknesses:

Posted Jan 15, 2005 - I love this iPod. It is a little bigger than the mini's but it's still small and compact. You basically have an unlimited amount of space for music and photos. Up to 10000 songs and 25000 photos. The battery can last up to 15 hours. Nice colorful display.

Strengths:

Best navigation system ever, beautiful color screen, great storage capacity, great synchronization with iTunes, loads of goodies in the box, very well supported.

Weaknesses:

Kinda heavy, slippery, easily scratched.

Posted May 25, 2005 - iPods are simply the best MP3 players out there, and owning this one confirms it for me. Apple knows how to make something simple to use yet powerful at the same time. I also purchased the Apple digital camera connector and it works GREAT with my Canon PowerShot S1 IS. I am very impressed with how well this thing works and how intuitive it is to use. One piece of advice: buy a case that will protect you iPod, preferably one that protects the screen. Your iPod will appreciate it and so will you if you want to keep it looking nice. I bought a Speck Toughskin case and couldn't be happier. What are you waiting for? You NEED an iPod photo!
