Like its famous siblings, iPod Photo features the touch-sensitive Apple Click Wheel that?s the envy of the industry. You?ll use it to navigate iPod Photo?s menu. Now in living color, it's easier to read than ever. That?s thanks in part to the clarity of the display - it offers 220x176-pixel resolution - and in part to the Myriad typeface. Spin the wheel to Music, and you can scroll effortlessly through dozens of playlists, hundreds of albums or thousand of songs.Or highlight Photos. iPod Photo displays 25 full-color thumbnails at a time. And you can scroll through them the same way you scroll through song titles. Quickly. Just spin the wheel to see more. And when you see a photo you?d like displayed all by its lonesome, just click the center button and voila. No one will have to say ?cheese? as long as you have iPod Photo around. Whether you?re listening to tunes or checking out photos, you?re sure to be all smiles.Use the included AV cable to connect iPod Photo to a projector or TV. You can mesmerize friends and family with a glorious multimedia experience, offering them a breathtaking slideshow accompanied by the music you already have on your iPod Photo. Of course, you get to choose the songs, albums or playlists.Whether you?re on a transcontinental flight or an extra long hike, if you plan to listen to music for hours and hours, iPod Photo has you covered. Fully charged, it lets you enjoy up to 15 hours of continuous music; or up to 5 hours of continuous slideshows with music. Use the FireWire or USB 2.0 cables to quickly charge the batteries. Or use the iPod Photo Dock that comes with both 40GB and 60GB models. minimize

4 Star Review iPod

Strengths:

Easy and quick setup, superb user interface with excellent controls and response time, ergonomically pleasing, travel-ready.

Weaknesses:

Maybe too big for people who don't have much music. Collects fingerprints. I really had to think of something that was a weakness.

Posted May 6, 2006 - I've been using my iPod for almost a year now and it has never let me down. I've filled it up to nearly 50 gigs between mostly music and a good amount of photos and surprisingly there is never any 'seek' time - which I'm very happy about. Also acts as a great portable hard drive! Updates are rare and don't seam necessary but are quick and easy. It feels like it's fragile but will take a good beating - I do recommend getting a carrying case for it if you'd like to keep it from smudging up or scratching.

4 Star ReviewThe biggest mistake Apple made with the iPod photo ...

Strengths:

Roomy hard drive, color screen is easy on the eyes

Weaknesses:

Somewhat bulkier and heavier than typical iPod

Posted Dec 8, 2004 - The biggest mistake Apple made with the iPod photo is to call it the iPod photo when it really doesn't do much photo. It displays pictures, but you need your computer to load them first. I'm not really sure of the functionality of that feature. A better name for the iPod photo would have been the iPod color, or maybe, iPod CS. The color screen is amazing, and well worth the extra cost. Battery life is the best I've ever had with an iPod (and I own three others). The only thing I really hate is the added thickness and heft. You won't want to go jogging with the iPod photo. It's stricktly for the sedentary set. If you put a 4G 20GB iPod in one hand and the iPod photo in the other you'll notice the difference immediately. But for those who use their iPod in the car or other places where screen viewing is important the iPod photo is a good purchase.

Strengths:

Compact, Tons of Storage, Color Screen, Apple Coolness

Weaknesses:

Price, photo feature is kinda dumb

Posted Feb 18, 2005 - Well i got my iPod photo to replac emy dead original 5 gig iPod and I couldn't be happier. While id agree the photo feature is kinda stupid this is the best player on the marker for me due to its massive storage space. I have over 80 gigs of music and having 60 gigs on the iPod covers all the best of it. The color screen and diplay of album covers is also awesome for someone liek me who has painstakingly added album artwork and perfect track tags to every file in their iTunes library. Of course buying somethiung this expensive theres always some buyers remorse of wondering what is next. I'd love to have an 80 gig wireless iPod that would allow ya to plug into a tv with avi movie files.

Strengths:

It's great. I saved about $50 b/c i bought the 1st gen instead of 2nd gen. Also, this one came w/ firewire, video port and case.

Weaknesses:

I needed some help w/ loading the software on my computer but the phone # for apple wasn't listed anywhere in the materials that came w/ the ipod. I expected more from apple.

Posted May 12, 2005 - It really is a nice product. If you don't need 60 GB of space, you might want to save the money. A friend has the 40 GB and it looks exactly the same. I'm looking forward to using it a lot.

Strengths:

color screen, high capacity

Weaknesses:

small screen, high price

Posted Apr 26, 2005 - The "weaknesses" are only minor when compared to the rest of the package. I love the high capacity, due to my obbsessive music gathering, but due to my career as a photographer, the ability to store and view images is a GREAT asset. The accessories that are available are very good as well... particularly the iTalk by Belkin.

Posted Dec 31, 2004 - Apple did a great job with the Ipod Photo, but it could have done better, if it have included for $599 dollars a remote, a carrier that allowed operation of the click wheel without removing it from the holder, a better set of ear buds, currently I use Bose Accoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones, and the sound is great. I did'nt purchase the Ipod Photo for its ability to hold pictures, I wanted the room for music, again a great product, love the downloads from Itunes with color album cover.

Strengths:

Looks cool, prevents derision from the "iPod" fashionistas..

Weaknesses:

Pricey, so far unreliable, iTunes upgrade is not working...

Posted Mar 11, 2005 - I'm pretty darn disappointed w/ this whole iPod experience... It took me forever to get my iTunes to install correctly. Now I can't upgrade to iTuns 4.7... When I tried to run the "upgrade", it first told me my v4 library is locked. Now it won't run at all. When I first set up and tried to upload my existing mp3 library to my new iPod Photo, nearly half of my music "disappeared" from the library. The whole reason I bought the iPhoto in the first place, was to replace the iRiver IHP-140 that was stolen out of my (bag in my) hotel room in S.F. last summer. Despite not being able to create playlists or browse by category easily, the iRiver was a much better purchase. Less expensive, more features, better battery life, drag-n-drop uploads, and an in-line remote w/ LCD display. In addition to my iTunes woes, the iPod itself didn't work properly for the whole snowboarding trip I got it for. The darn thing stops in the middle of songs for no reason. Sometimes, it will hardly play more than three seconds of a song. To top it off, there doesn't seem to be real online customer support. Instead, owners have to search through numerous forums to "find" the answers to their problems. I expected a hell of a lot more for my $600. Now, less than a month after purchase, they're selling for about $100.00 less than I paid...

4 Star Review Incredible MP3 player!

Strengths:

The color screen looks great, the UI is easy to use, the click wheel interface is the greatest thing since sliced bread, sound quality is fantastic and there are tons of available accessories.

Weaknesses:

iTunes. I can't believe anybody thinks this is a great piece of software. No decent photo organizer for Windows users.

Posted Aug 21, 2005 - I've had this MP3 player now for over 3 months and I love it. The fact that you have 60GB for photos and music is a great thing (my previous 40GB player was nearly full). You have to be impressed with Apple's design and ease of use. I don't think you'll find another MP3 player out there that looks better either. The plethora of available accessories, both functional and cosmetic, make "dressing up" your iPod easy to do. The only downside I see is the software. iTunes (at least the Windows version) isn't all that great. To me it seems slow and cumbersome. Some features aren't all that intuitive. Also my other bigger gripe is the lack of any Windows photo management software. If you don't have a Mac, Apple leaves you in the cold with this feature. It would be a 5 star product if it wasn't for the lame Windows software.
