4 Star Review My newest toy is a great buy

Strengths:

Storage, navagation, good software, fast file transfer, no buttons to gum up,sharp screen, powerful sound, lighted touch buttons and good equalizers.

Weaknesses:

could come with a better case, included charger and spare battery - I'd gladly pay more for a complete package with this player.

Posted Dec 24, 2005 - I got this for podcasting (I listen to net broadcasts that are auto-sent to me each day to my desktop) and I loved the fact that you can record FM, voice or streaming content directly into the unit. The radio is pretty good compared to most I have had packaged with CD Players and having so many record options really broardens this players abilities. I also enjoy music and the Zen booms-out really well into ANY HEADPHONES I have used. I have Bose Quiet Comfort Noise Reduction because I work in a high noise enviroment - the combination of the player, 8 equalizers (plus a custom one you can set) makes this a million dollar sound machine!!!! As you have read in other reviews, the touch sensitive buttons CAN be a little tricky, but once you master them, they really are sweet. I think the neatest feature is that ALL THE BUTTONS (plus the out-line of the player) are back-lit, so in total darkness, you can manipulate the player effortlessly. It even has enough glow to use as a close-area flashlight in a dark room - lol. The software is intensive too, although it has a learning curve, you still have a wizard screen which walks you through MOST operations. I like this player a lot. I would gladly have paid another $50 or so for a kit which included a nice case, extra battery and charger. It comes in a roped bag which you knot-tie at the top - it really isn't a ergonomic way to use the player. I got it for under $170 at Walmart, which beats all the prices I've seen online. I have used other mp3 players, helped friends and coworkers operate theirs and WITHOUT A DOUBT the Creative Zen Micro is the EASIEST navigation system of all the players I have handled.

Strengths:

size, user replaceable battery, chatging through usb port, touchpad control

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Nov 17, 2005 - I have had this player for about 2 weeks and I love it so far. It is very small and the best part is battery is user replaceable, that is the reason I bought this player. Get this, you will not be disappointed.

Strengths:

Great features Touchpad controls work great User replaceable battery Can charge unit via USB port USB 5.0 data transfer

Weaknesses:

Menu system takes some getting used to Plastic case gets scratched easily

Posted Jul 2, 2005 - I bought a Zen Micro instead of an Ipod for two reasons: one is I do mot like the fact that Itunes provides much in a different format, and the other tis that the Ipod does not have a user replaceable battery. If I am hiking or on a camping trip, where would I charge my player? With the Zen that is not a problem, I can carry extra batteries I have charged in advance. My collection is MP3 and WMA files, and the Zen does a great job at playing both. The touchpad interface is very well designed and despute what I have read in other review it is quite responsive and easy to use. The blue glow is a great attention getter, and the unit pulses when it is charging. The SnR is one of the big selling points, and rightly so. The music is clean and noise free even at high volumes. The earbuds are a bit larger than most, and may be uncomfortable for some. The silky bag is good for keeping scratches off the unit, which is plastic and gets scratched fairly easily. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone, it is smaller than the Ipod Mini, and you can replace the battery yourself.

3 Star Review Good 6Gig MP3 player

Strengths:

Sound Quality, replaceable battery, the color

Weaknesses:

ultra sensitive touchpad espically the scrolling part, OK battery life, few accessories, software has to be charged on computer for it to be charged by USB

Posted Oct 22, 2005 - I decided to go with the Creative because it has a replaceable battery and it was cheaper than the comparable Ipod mini. The audio sounds great and the menu is pretty easy to navigate. I haven't really used any of the feature like the FM radio or voice recorder but I guess it's nice to have. I had to go with the black one with a blue backlight cause it looks awesome. The touchpad is pretty annoying because its pretty sensitive even when you put the setting to low. I'm always scrolling past things that I want. It's pretty frustrating sometimes. Also I think the battery life isn't that great. I have to recharge it every day but at least it lasts me for around 8 hrs. I found out the hard way that for it to be able to charge by USB on a computer, the software has to be installed which I think is pretty retarded. You should definitely pick up a charger cause it's a lot faster to charge and more convenient. Overall I'm pretty happy though I think I would like the Ipod more since it's touchpad is better.

5 Star Review VERY user friendly device! (...and I'm fairly new to the world of MP3 players)

Strengths:

1. Ease of use; both the device and the software. 2. Excellent sound quality. 3. Set up/installation was a breeze. 4. Device is loaded with extras!

Weaknesses:

Touch pad was a bit...uh...touchy, but the sensitivity CAN BE ADJUSTED. I adjusted it, so this turned out to be a non-issue for me.

Posted Jan 19, 2006 - I have a *lot* of CD's, and I'm fairly new to the world of MP3 players. I thought the purchase of an MP3 player would be a great alternative to my hauling around my CD's when I wanted to listen to music, (in my car, at a party, etc.). After I researched MP3 players for about 2 weeks on the internet, (learning about them and sound formats, what type of players were available, etc.), I started comparing the different players, (iPod, Sansa, Toshiba, iRiver, Rio and Creative). I compared price, extras, online "tech" magazine write-ups and recommendations, and purchaser comments. Creative, in my opinion, won hands down! I was torn between purchasing Creative's Zen Micro or Zen Touch. After deciding I *really* didn't need the 20 to 40GB of storage the Zen Touch had, I chose the Micro, (with its 6GB's). I'm so glad I did! I received my Zen Micro 6GB player yesterday and, within an hour after opening the box, I was loading the device with music from my CD's. Now, I'm not a computer wiz, (I'm self taught). I had NO PROBLEM installing the software that came with the player, nor did I have a problem using the software to load my player. It is so VERY USER FRIENDLY! And... if you know how to access files on your computer, you will have no problem working the menu on the Zen. It is logical and easy to understand. Do yourself a favor... stop shopping - buy the Zen Micro! You won't be sorry.

Strengths:

Weaknesses:

user manual could be better

Posted Jun 2, 2005 - Finally, a 6GB zen micro with great sound and great features. It was easy to set up and import music. The only drawback was the lack of colors and the lack of availability at retailers. User manual could also be worded and arranged better.

4 Star Review Great Player + Cheap!

Strengths:

-Low Price -Small Price -Great Sound -Great Display -FM + Voice Record -Comes with rechargeable battery

Weaknesses:

-Low battery life(12 Hours) -Too sensitive even on low settings -Clicking often collides with the sliding -Easy to accidently skip a song -HD player -Has to be charged via PC unless you buy a adapter

Posted Nov 18, 2005 - I recently bought this from Best Buy for $150. Happy with it but also disappointed at some futures. The Zen Micro is a great MP3 player. It has a display and is quite small. However the manual gives like absolutely NO info. It doesn't include a adapter to charge without a PC, you have to charge it from the PC unless you buy a adapter. It's also a HD player so it can be easily damaged from activites(jogging, basketball, etc.). It's still good for $150.

4 Star Review Creative Zen 6GB MP3 Player

Strengths:

Plenty of storage, re-chargeable battery, good sound quality.

Weaknesses:

None.

Posted Nov 29, 2005 - Finally I can take all my music with me and leave the CDs at home. Excellent player, love the FM radio. Contoured sides make holding it easy. An included calendar and contact list program lets the unit double as a PDA. My only regret is that I did not get a larger memory unit.

1 Star Review Worse Quality I've Ever Seen ... Buy An iPod

Strengths:

None

Weaknesses:

Aweful Quality

Posted Apr 12, 2007 - I have never written a negative review before, but I feel it is my responsibility to convey my experience as a warning to others. I bought a createve Zen player less than a year ago. After only 10-20 hours of use, it broke (the power switch did not work). I returned it to the company and was charged $25 to fix it even though the device was essentially new. I received it, used it sparingly again, and same problem occurred. I sent it back to them, and now they want $71 to fix the device. I sent the device to them over one month ago, and have only now resolved the issue. They refuse to fix the device, and I refuse to pay any more money on this piece of crap. Instead I will buy an iPod. Not only have I been robbed of over $200, they now have my device. Creative may fool you with more features and a better price, but in the end it will cost you much more. It cost me over $200, and now I have nothing. A friend of mine bought and iPod. When it broke, Apple replaced it with a new one for free. So my suggestion, do not buy from Creative, buy from Apple. There is a reason Apple owns this market!! Don not make the same mistake I made.

5 Star Review Excellent player

Strengths:

Great Sound Quality, Voice Recorder

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Nov 11, 2005 - This is an excellent player for those of you who dont like to use itunes. The hard drive went out on my first player, so i had to get a replacement, but the replacement works fine. The sound quality is better than my old ipod mini, the battery lasts longer than my ipod mini, and it plays wma. Also it works great with windows media player and my yahoo subscription, which is a big plus for me.

2 Star Review 6G Micro Zen

Strengths:

Easy to set-up and install, easy to transfer songs, easy to use, relatively cheap, good user interface, nice looking and compact in size.

Weaknesses:

Extremely slow in scrolling through songs or advancing from song to song, freezes up frequently, slow in transfering songs, not reliable.

Posted Oct 26, 2005 - I bought this Zen after owning 2 ipods with battery failures. I was hoping that it would be comparable to the ipod because most of the reviews on it are very positive. Initially I was very impressed with how easy the unit was to use and set up. The sound quality was good. However, within a day or so the unit was freezing up frequently and eventually stopped working all together. It's also EXTREMELY slow. Count to ten slowly, and that's how long it takes to advance ahead to a new song. Maybe if i had never owned another type of mp3 player I could have gotten used to this, but personally I would not buy another one.

4 Star Review Creative Zen Micro 6 GB (Black)

Strengths:

Small size, great looks, excellent audio quality. Nifty "pulsating" blue lighting when the devices goes idle.

Weaknesses:

Battery life could be better. Touch sensitive input system is a bit whacky. Takes a while to get used to.

Posted Nov 11, 2005 - Overall, I really like this unit. I got it for $199 - $50 Gift Card from Best Buy. I like the small size and the included head phones are great. I can just slip it in my pocket and go. I also bought an FM transmitter so I could hook it up to my car and it works great.
