1 Star Review HP (Hewlett-Packard) iPod Photo 60GB 2nd Gen. MP3 Player

Strengths:

Design and Apple easy of use

Weaknesses:

Tons - see below

Posted Nov 7, 2005 - I bought this Ipod 1 week ago. Removing it from the plastic wrap I had scrates on the screen and everywhere else. The material used is poor quality. It took me sometime to figure out how to move around the menus but once I got around it is easy. Screen is sharp and clear. Photos look great and scroll quickly. You have to use Itunes for everything and you can't scroll and create directories on the hard drive. I have an older Archos 15GB Recorder and frankly for 1/3 the price the Archos beats this play anyday as an MP3 player, voice recoder etc.... There is too much hype on this device and you are paying for the "IPOD" name rather than the product performance. Every little thing is an accessory you have to buy. They do not give you a case and provide you with poor quality earplugs. The sound is nowhere better than the Archos. 1 Week later it dies on me. The round menu does not function. This is going back - you can purchase a notebook with this price. All that Apple marketing - huh !

5 Star Review A ripe Apple audio player with large capacity and a color display

Strengths:

Shows the album cover as the song track plays, audio quality is really good.

Weaknesses:

iTunes vs. Media Player formats incompatible. Needs a case for protection. Wish it had an in-line remote.

Posted Aug 13, 2005 - My third hard-drive media player. This is the HP model. Comparison with the Samsung YH-920 and iRiver H320. Hardware set-up was easy to follow, but had to reload the media tracks from a separate library on a USB hard drive to keep my WMA files separate from the converted AAC files-I use a Media center PC as a network music server for 4500 tracks, and AAC format is not an option there. Tags from my mp3 digital media files converted smoothly and now it displays the album covers as the track plays because I had tagged them prior to install. I'm not sure if iTunes could do this for existing tracks, and I lost the artwork on the few WMA files I converted to AAC. The photo display works well, and the slideshow feature was easy to setup and use. I have a iPod photo dock that allows external S-video display on a TV. Soung quality was pure and an EQ settings allows for some enhancement but the iriver offers more options to enhance the sound. Iriver discontinued the product line, so I'm picking apples, and this one is SWEET!
