With the help of Pokémon, set out on a fun-filled adventure! You play as a Pokémon Ranger in the Fiore Region, where you work to preserve nature and protect Pokémon. Experience a whole new way to capture Pokémon! Circle Pokémon using the Capture Styler with Nintendo DS stylus control. Use each Pokémon's special abilities to clear obstacles and to help capture other Pokémon. Capture and interact with more than 200 of your favorite Pokémon. Work your way up the Pokémon Ranger ranks by succeeding at official missions throughout the Fiore region. minimize

3 Star Review Pokemon Ranger

Strengths:

different spin on traditional Pokemon mechanics

Weaknesses:

repeditive capture techniques

Posted Nov 13, 2007 - This is similar yet different than the traditional Pokemon titles (Pearl, Diamond, etc.). The catching portion is very familiar but you do it by drawing circles on the touch screen to catch them rather than battling. It runs at a quick pace than battling but it will get old after a while after you’ve drawn a couple dozen circles. However, after you’ve mastered the capturing techniques, it is an enjoyable pseudo RPG where you use your captured Pokemon’s abilities to roam the land, encounter/defeat obstacles and enemies. The only catch is that you can use them once and they wander off. Ends up not being a big deal because it seems that the particular Pokemon you need can be recaptured in the area. This was a good solid title especially if you enjoy Pokemon in general.

4 Star Review Not just for Manaphy

Strengths:

Innovative gameplay, new capture system

Weaknesses:

Repetative

Posted Sep 27, 2007 - Pokemon Ranger is an interesting new look at the pokemon universe. Instead of playing a trainer who runs around capturing and battle pokemon, a pokemon ranger functions in the world much like a park ranger or the pokemon version of the crocidile hunter. Your job is to calm down pokemon with your stylus by drawing circles around the pokemon while trying to avoid having them run into the lines or hitting it with one of their attacks. If you can draw enough circles around them, they become calm and follow you around, helping you on your quest. The abilities of various pokemon are needed to advance in the game and get past obstacles. For example, a water pokemon might be needed in order to put out a fire in order to get past a certain area. The basic plot of the game is similar to all pokemon games. A team of evil individuals steal a super stylus and it's your job to find it and bring it back. Along the way, you will explore various areas and go on quests to advance in ranger levels.

3 Star Review Pokemon Ranger

Strengths:

All the characters, a bit different than the usual pokemon game.

Weaknesses:

The original style games are better. After a while it gets dull & repetitive.

Posted May 25, 2007 - Pokemon Ranger is adecent game in the long running Pokemon series. The only way you're going to really love this game is if you're a Pokemaniac. After playing the game for a bit, it does get dull & repetitive. Also, the main characters walking speed is poor, which makes playing the game out a real drag. The only reason I decided to pick this game up was for the manaphy egg which you can transfer over to the new Pearl & Diamond versions.

4 Star Review Ow, My Wrist!

Strengths:

A unique take on the Pokemon universe.

Weaknesses:

A bit slow and repetitive.

Posted May 9, 2007 - Pokemon Ranger is an above-average Pokemon spin-off. In fact, spin-off describes the battles quite well, as your goal is to catch Pokemon by drawing circles around them. All told, the developers did a great job putting plenty of variety around this basic gameplay restriction. Perhaps my biggest complaint would be the slow walking speed of the main character, which drags the exploration aspect down. Pokemon fans may enjoy this one, but others may not find it as rewarding.

2 Star Review Only 1 reason to buy this game.

Strengths:

Manaphy can be transferred to Pokemon Diamond / Pearl after you beat the game.

Weaknesses:

Gameplay isn't that fun Short

Posted Jun 30, 2007 - Don't buy this game if you're not a Pokemon completist. The game is a novel attempt to change up Pokemon gameplay mechanics....but it's not that compelling. If drawing rings around a pokemon is your idea of a good time, knock yourself out. The game is relatively short: I managed to buy and beat this game over the weekend before Pokemon D/P came out. Considering the only reason I bought the game was to add Manaphy to my list of Pokemon (as this is the only way to get this legendary Pokemon....and Phione, the offspring of Manaphy and Ditto), the short gameplay wasn't necessarily a bad thing. If you have a friend (or child) who enjoys Pokemon...buy them Diamond or Pearl instead of this game.

4 Star Review Fun to play

Strengths:

Very interesting storyline Good use of stylus Pokemon fans will love this game

Weaknesses:

Introduction is very long

Posted 1 year ago - This game is quite fun to play, I would recomment it for the kids who like Pokemon. Its different from other pokemon games in the way you play the game because you have to use the stylus to catch pokemon instead of battle as is past. Pokemon that you capture in the game can be used for help during missions. There is a special mission that will allow you to capture manaphy egg that can be transferred to Pokemon Pearl as well.

4 Star Review Great for Pokemon fans

Strengths:

Plot

Weaknesses:

Graphics

Posted Apr 30, 2008 - I would highly recommend this game to any Pokemon fan. The game has a nice little plot, and I’m not sure if you still can, but I know a while ago you could get a Manaphy from this game and trade it to your Pokemon Diamond, and Pokemon Pearl. Anyways, Pokemon ranger takes place in the fictional Fione region. You are a young man (or woman) who would like to become a Pokemon ranger, after succeeding in doing so, you get a Minun, or Plusle as a partner depending on if you are a boy or girl. And from there you get missions and start your quest as a Pokemon ranger. But the game may not appeal to you if you are not familiar with other Pokemon franchise because the graphics aren’t that great, they aren’t horrible, but they aren’t great. All in all, I repeat, I would recommend this game to any Pokemon fan.
