The Classic Office Suite
The Standard for .doc files. Self-repairing installations. Familiar yet distinctive interface.
E-mail stored in one huge database file, could have stronger templates, occasionally irritating when formatting
Posted Nov 25, 2007 - This is the de facto standard for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations, competently authored. In the last year or so I've used it less mainly because iWork is extremely attractive. Keynote and Pages offer a visual flair just not possible with MS Office 2004. Also, iWork is a universal binary, running natively on Intel machines. That said, Office 2004 still offers a lot that's not possible with iWork. Visual Basic scripting is here (although it will disappear in the next version). It is still better for very long documents, giving its more developed indexing/versioning system. Those who purchased this product recently (like me) are eligible for a free (other than shipping/handling charge) upgrade to Office 2008 when it is released in January. So, purchasing this package at a good price today will probably save you money over buying the new version next year.
