Discussion of Microsoft Office 2003 Professional
Posted Aug 9, 2006 - Concerning piracy. Please review this before you buy here. If the price you see is too good to be true, it probably is a pirated copy. Currently (08/08/06), I suspect every vendor that is selling under $185 may be selling high-grade counterfeit versions. Before you buy, review the vendors return policy. Make sure you are allowed to return the product even if it's been opened. There are several ways you can tell that this software is probably pirated: (A) The CD is hologrammed but the word "Microsoft" at the bottom doesn't change to the word "Genuine" as you turn the CD from side to side. (B) When you install the software, it doesn't ask for the key or, (C) When you put the CD in the drive, the first thing that comes up is a little box asking for the key. This box is not part of the Microsoft installer process. It is only to fool you into believing that your software is legitimate. You will find that you can enter any 25 digit number/letter sequence in here and it will accept it. If you cancel the installation after this, you will get a message box that says "Installation Finish", even though you didn't complete the process. If you run Belarc Advisor after installing the software, you'll find that the key that is stored on your computer is not the one you entered at the beginning of the install. If you visit Microsoft's website to find out if your software is legitimate, the key will probably come up as invalid. (D) Your CD may be hologrammed but may also be scratched when it arrives. (E) Your CD includes InfoPath. InfoPath is only included in Enterprise versions of Microsoft Office. You bought Microsoft Office Professional 2003, not the Enterprise version. Please visit Microsoft's anti-piracy website and go through the wizard to be sure that you have received legal software. http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/default.mspx
