4 Star Review Uniden BC246t

Strengths:

easy to set up. easy to update off computer. light and durable can fit into a pocket. also comes with a handy clip for pants.

Weaknesses:

difficult to program. direction just refer you to a different page. preprogrammed channels get in the way, unless you live near them. hard to find frequency channels.

Posted Dec 18, 2006 - this product has its ups and downs. it is very difficult to figure out but once you get the hang of it it seems to be easy. preprogrammed channels really get in the way when all you want are channels that are near you. also the directory to find channels does not exist. they have software you can buy for an extra price, but nothing is free. to find the channels you want you have to surf the web or buy their products. once you find the frequency and program them in it works great. the scans work great they have many types of scan that they find some of the channels for you. not all channels come in crystal clear which i didn't expect them to. updates are easy to install on comp and easy to transfer to scanner. it still gets some interference from cell phone and two way radio talk which gets annoying. it is a great scanner but very difficult to get the hang of everything

1 Star Review Waste of Money

Strengths:

NOTHING

Weaknesses:

The booklet is too confusing. You need to be a genius to program the scanner. The batteries don't last very long and will be costly. Customer support stinks! I found nothing good to say.

Posted May 15, 2007 - There is NOTHING easy about programming this scanner. Unless you are a genius, you won't be able to program it. Don't bother to call Uniden, they will only tell you that this scanner is "NOT FOR YOU". My suggestion is to save your money unless you know of some place that really knows how to program the scanner for you. Make sure you find out who can program it BEFORE YOU BUY. I am returning it.
