A Step Above
anti-jam technology, basket, wheels, easy-setup
doesn't power off automatically due to inactivity
Posted Apr 22, 2008 - This shredder is clearly a step above the average and that's also why you'll end up paying slightly more... You get what you pay for though: quieter operation, convenient basket to empty the waste, some obvious anti-jam features. Even comes with some plastic trash bags and oil! I have not yet tested the "power through a jam" technology, but I would imagine that this shredder is much closer to being "idiot-proof" than most anything currently on the market for general consumer use. Standard shredding rules still apply though: don't try to shred too much at any one time, and don't try to shred stuff that the shredder cannot shred (basically anything OTHER THAN paper, paper clips, staples, CD/DVDs, and credit cards). The unit will not completely power off due to inactivity (the motor obviously does, but the LEDs/electronics do not). Its just slightly annoying since they have all kinds of other sensors, so why not a simple inactivity timer? Instructions also do not tell you where the safesense switch is located (its located just under the cutter right when you open the basket). Bottom line: If you want a decent shredder for personal use, you'll like this. Simple as that!
