Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Reletively inexpensive, color screen, easy to use, nice metal stylus.

Weakness: Screen could be brighter for use in the sunlight.

I really like this palm. Its my second after I borrowed an old m100 for a few months. The reason I chose this PDA is because I didn't need a lot of stuff to go with it, or added on to it. I don't need a camera, and if I wanted to type, I'd get a laptop. This is not a multimedia center. It will do video, music, pictures, office docs, and games, but don't expect too much. If you're dreaming of all the "cool" stuff you can do if you purchase one remember what Palm has always done well; a streamlined OS, as well as applications. If you want to surf the web, get a computer. This does business and school stuff very well. I also use it as my mp3 player, and sounds really good, (in some ways I like it better than the RCA lyra RD1021 we have). I used it last semester to keep my school stuff in order (using a program called "Due Yesterday"), and as an MP3 player while I studied. I also use the Word and Excel features often (which is a nice touch).
If you're wanting a PDA for multimedia, I wouldn't recommend a PDA at all, mostly because you'll be diapointed, and the "new car smell" will wear off quickly. If you need to get organized, and have some music, and pictures and stuff along the way, I highly recommend this PDA. Its the best for the money. This PDA although does not fit many of the standard palm accesories. I personally like that I don't have to use one of those lame cradle cords. It uses a USB connection that our MP3 player uses, and so I don't have a ton of stuff on my desk. The USB also will SLOWLY charge it up. I bought a palm because I just wanted it to work, to be small, to play music, have lots of 3rd party apps, and to be expandable (memory -- it has an SDIO slot). I wouldn't hold your breath about internet surfing, checking email is cool, but the processor and screen just aren't big enough for general web stuff.
The color screen is nice, but isn't quite bright enough to use outside or in a sunny window for long periods of time, as the sunlight washes it out. But it works good enough for me.
Again, its great for students, and anyone else who needs to get organized. The contact manager and calendar are really nice, my wife and I are able to coordinate our schedules nicely. Its very thin, and makes a great mp3 player. (And if you use the RealPlayer audio format, it still sounds great and you can fit two to three times as much on your SD card). When I bought it Pocket PC's were still pretty bulky, and so were the Clie's. Things are different now, but this is still a great PDA at this price point.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: color screen, operating system (5.2.1), fast processor, lots of included software

Weakness: battery life . . . battery life . . .

The color screen is incredible. Date/calendar, addresses/contact and todo/tasks applications on this version of the operating system ( 5.2.1) are great compared to earlier Palms. Can load some applications and files directly into an SDIO card (not included with the handheld) via the Palm Desktop (version 4.1.2). Graffiti2 is a lot easier to use then the original Graffiti. Size is small.

No way to turn off backlight to conserve battery life. No way to configure Hotsync icon in Graffiti2 area to sync via infrared. No travel charge available to plug directly in a wall outlet (the charger supplied with the handheld is bulky); however, the usb hotsync cable does supply a trickle charge to the handheld (takes about 9 hours to fully charge via the usb hotsync cable compared to 3 hours using the bulky charger). The biggest problem is the battery life--I had to charge at least once a day.

I used my Tungsten E for about a week before switching back to my Palm M500 (my wife now uses the Tungsten E). Battery life is more important to me than a color screen and a fast processor speed. When my M500 finally dies, I'll buy another Tungsten E for my own use.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Fast, pretty screen, stylish

Weakness: Dead power button, dark screen, non-replaceable battery

My previous PDA was an old b&w Visor, so this color screen is pretty nice. Unfortunately, I've noticed something wrong with it when comparing to my wife's Tungsten E: my screen is very noticeably darker, even at the highest brightness setting. Her screen is much brighter, with very accurate color. With mine, it's darker and everything has a slight tint of yellow on it.

My other complaint is the power button. After just a couple months, I've noticed that I would have to press it harder for it to respond. In four months after owning my Tungsten, the power button stopped working all together. It just stays down and cannot be pressed. Good thing my center button in the joystick still works in turning on my Palm and I found a software that will shutoff my Pal, but it's still incredibly annoying.

Lastly, I read that the rechargeable battery inside will surely die within 2 years of ownership. It can be replaced (if you dare to do it), but 3rd party vendors sell a replacement battery for around $80-$100, so that is definitely not worth it. It's just sad that in 1.5 more years, my Palm will be dead and I would have to spend more money to buy a new one.

Other than these three major complaints, I like my Palm. :) It's fast and stylish. I don't mind the lack of a cradle, as the cables work just as well. If someone can fix those three problems above, then the Tungsten will be perfect.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Great color display

Weakness: Poor product support, too many problems

This is my third venture into the Palm line. The first was an M100. I must have exchanged this product five times before getting one that worked - for a while. I then was given a Zire, that didn't work for long either. I only use a PDA for keeping track of my daily schedule and phone numbers. When I saw a friends Tungsten with the color screen, I had to have it! But, just as the others, I have encountered too many problems. The latest is that it lost most, not all of my contact list. Again, no response from Palm, but they do keep me updated on all of their new products by e-mail. I'm done. Not sure what I'm going to replace it with yet. But I know it will be better!

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: I know it's an over-used phrase, but the Tungsten E is extremely "user friendly". The screen is easy to see, and the features are very easy to figure out. The alarm sounds are pleasant, as well.

Weakness: Expanding the system, such as to add modem capabilities, can be expensive.

This is my first PDA. I researched online and in-store for a month before buying this one, two months ago. It had all the features I wanted, except the ability to connect to my email accounts right out of the box. I haven't yet bought an expansion card so I can load music, but it's only a matter of time. I like this SOOOO much better than a (paper) day planner, of which I own two and never use. Being more technology-oriented, I found this product to be just what I wanted. I use the calculator more often than the other calculators I have at my disposal. I am even reading the original story of "The Wizard of Oz", a nice little bonus I located while fiddling around. Not having any past experience,I don't find the battery life to be poor, as some other reviews have noted. I treat it like my cell phone, and plug it in to recharge, when needed.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Compact/slim size, brilliant colors, sharp screen, fast processing, great software bundle, easy to use, sturdy, fabulous value

Weakness: USB cord plugs in at the bottom of the unit and gets in the way sometimes. Can't get extra cords for PC link.

I love my palm!! It was definately the best deal for the money. Other than a slight annoyance with the positioning of the USB link at the bottom (which makes it hard for me to stand the unit up on my desk for easy viewing), I have no complaints. I've had this unit for 2 months and I am becoming more and more dependent on it to stay organized and on top of things.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Great functionality for the price. Lotsw of available memory with expansion capabilities using cards.

Weakness: Charging/hotsyncing/battery life

With the Tungsten E, Palm accompanied their usually great product with a hotsync/charging system unlike anything on any other Palm device. Then, realizing that it was too expensive to make accessories for just one product line, they failed to support it. There is no such thing as a cradle for the Tungsten E. NOBODY makes one. To charge/sync with the cables that come from Palm requires a separate cable for each function laying across your desk because Palm makes them as separate objects and then doesn't fit them into a cradle to organize them in your workspace. They're always falling off the desk and you have to crawl around on the floor to hotsync. Better cables are available elsewhere but should come supplied. Constant errors during hot sync. Battery life is about 1 hour of user time. I have to charge daily as opposed to weekly with my old Handspring Visor. I realize color display takes more energy than monochrome but this is rediculous. My contact with customer service has pretty much been, "That's the product, tough."

Still, operating functionality is great. Its just the charging/syncing functions I have a problem with. But I wouldn't buy another one.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Color screen, docs to go, mp3 player

Weakness: none

I purchased this hand held as an upgrade to a Handspring neo that I used to have and the difference between the two is night and day. I love the color screen on the E and the fast response time whenever I tap an icon. I recharge the battery about once every 4-5 days but have not found this to be much of a problem, especially since I only have to leave it plugged into the charger for about 30 minutes at a time. The absense of a cradle for charging/docking is actually a good thing because it cuts down on desktop clutter. I found the desktop software very easy to use and a breeze to navigate. I would recommend the E to anyone looking for a no nonsense PDA that gets the job done very well.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: color screen, onboard memory, can run programs right from expansion card, can play little movies, mp3 capability, word to go included on cd.

Weakness: probably battery life, although I have not had it run down on me.

I am very pleased with my Tungsten-E. I did find a travel and car charger on ebay that were inexpensive and work great. Made a big difference. Also, does charge while plugged into computer, although slowly. I had a Visor Edge before this and am so pleased with this. Very versatile. 32 ram is great especially being able to increase it via sd card.
I would recommend this to anyone that really doesn't need web or email access.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Bright color screen, MP3, Infrared, Sleek steel look, sd card slot, in-built speaker, password protected, low $$$.

Weakness: No Blue tooth, Ofcourse Weeeak built-in battery, No Camera, No cradle.

Why did I buy Palm Tungsten E? Had Sharp organizer (with key board same size as palm E), it was very good. Sharp is not manufacturing it anymore so looked out for PDA's. Palm E is my first PDA style organizer. Got for $105 including leather case, car & USB chargers at Sams club.
How does it Work: Works very good. I like Word-to-go, Excel sheet colors, bright color visible in sunlight. Most often I use it for calander, memo section and 'contacts' . The format - display of contacts is not that good.
Wireless transfers: No blue tooth but my cell phone has infrared also. So I can transfer images, small audio-video files, without cables easily (even though it takes a couple of minutes).
MP3-Audio-Video: Sound quality of Mono-Speaker is okay. Sound quality of Stereo-headphones is GOOD :). Downloaded kinoma video player but not all files can be played. Stores upto 1 gb in SD card. Did not try 2gb SD cards yet.

Internet Browsing: Downloaded Avantgo for browsing day-to-day web pages. But am not impressed with display of pages. Also since I store email passwords etc, in my E, I don't feel secure doing a hot sync (downloads) through LIVE websites. Try high end -more$$$- PDA's for browsing internet.

Last but not the least: Mr.Battery is non removable. Charges quickly and looses power at the same rate..quickly. But my car charger (got as part of package) and USB charger (charge from office desktop!!) do some compensation.
GPS-Navigation: Not Compatable. Rich or hi-fi people can look out for PDA that is compatable with Navigation or GPS devices like tomtom such as Palm LifeDrive etc.

Also, I can dial my cell phone from a distance of about 10 feet using "phone-dialer" in E. Exciting right! But its useless.

Battery is the main weakness. Others are perfect.
You may also consider taking 1 yr extra-warranty (for $5-10 more at wholesale clubs, and about $20 at retailers like Bestbuy, CC). happy hunting.
I definately recommend for casual, first-time users, daily users in low budget.

If you get Palm Tungsten E2 for almost same price as E, then go for it since its somewhat tomtom capable, has bluetooth and has Intel processor inside.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: excellent screen resolution, fast processor and great expanding capabilities

Weakness: there is not a cradle available because of the mini-usb hookup

this is a great product for organization, office on the go, and gaming. the mp3 capapbility is a plus and the expansion card slot provides for endless possibilities. the design is like that of the palm V, which adds some curve and style rather than the boxy feel of other pda's.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Great viewing area, Clear Crisp color. Light weight.

Weakness: Hot Sync CONSTANT FATAL error messages.Difficult to hot sync with previous 3rd party software.

I had a handspring visor for 3yrs and NEVER had problems until I upgraded to this Palm. This has given ERROR messages of ALL types after hot syncs.
I deleted or upgraded 3rd party software STILL get error messages.. NOT worth the hassle, time and frustration...Rather have my money back.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Love the mp3, my photos Kinoma Player are great features. I enjoy such a thin, light PDA.

Weakness: The case that comes with it is crappy, and I can't get a spare USB cable.

Overall I have enjoyed this palm and all of its features with a cheap price. If you're looking for a handheld with lots of capabilities, but aren't looking to spend a lot of money, this is the palm to buy.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: MP3 player, Movie player, ebooks and price

Weakness: Flip cover and Battery Life

This is my first Palm. I researched on various sites for months before I decided on getting the Tungsten E. I've read good reviews and bad but overall it was still my choice. I love the documents to go feature (word, excell etc) the MP3 player, and the movie player. I can even view photos too. This is a very handy product. I have not had any problems with it as yet except that after hot sync I got messages, but that was easily fixed. Overall Im happy with my T/E. Thanks palm!

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: price

Weakness: Reliability, battery life, ease of use, Palm support. Basically, it's trash.

Trash. The TE is useless after 1 year. It’s totally unreliable. I'm on my 3rd one in 12 months and I'm literally throwing it in the bin. I will NEVER purchase another product from Palm -- and I was a loyal customer with a Palm IIIc I used for years. Two TEs were replaced after fighting with the company (they finally deigned to finally talk with me). One replacement I paid nearly the cost of the original machine for, the second was within the 90 day warrantee of the repaired machine (90 days!! Now there's confidence in your product, eh?).

I bought the machine for business use on the road. The main problem is machine battery dies in a short time, used or not used, little/no warning re it's demise, and unless you get the machine recharged in a very short time (hours) the whole thing goes... and will NOT recharge, reset, or anything. To recharge on the road you have to buy more equipment and since this machine does not have a universal connector, you have to buy the special stuff for TE. Then if, you catch it in time and do not have the whole product die completely, you have to reset, reformat, and reinstall all programs and data. If you don't catch it in time, it does not charge, does not reset and sits darkly on your desk collecting dust.

Second problem is that Palm Tech Support is as useless as the machine – that is if and when you can find them, contact them, and actually talk to a person. If you get a person who can actually troubleshoot or speak English in an understandable way, you’re really in luck.

Bottom line: Save your money. Avoid headaches and buy from another company. If you have $200 to blow on this machine, give the $ to charity. You and the charity will be better off and Palm won’t be a smirking fatcat.

I agree 100%. Someone at Palm should be fired for this ripoff, but, in this Enron age, they'll probably be promoted. Bought two tungsten E's in 3 years, they just DON'T last like the earlier Palms. For serious users, that's a serious problem. Looks like someone else will have to take the 'quality PDA' banner that Palm has dropped.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Clear, easy to use, handy, replaces the conventional paper format that I've used for 20 years very well.

Weakness: This baby has a tendency (twice now) to totally black out, deleating EVERYthing and leaving you trying to figure out when you last backed up. Purchased 3, had this problem with 2 of them.

Battery life is not acceptable - from other reviews I see that recharging daily is necessary, unlike the once a week the company suggests for us users that only turn on their PDA three to five times a day; and the 'data retention for 5 days after battery loss' is a joke, at least to me. How about 6 hours? Maybe I'm too used to simply opening up my Dayplanner and accessing info, not happy with trying to turn on the Tungsten E and getting nothing...nothing. I think maybe I got a dud - nobody could sell this as a dependable tool if this is typical.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Beautiful display

Weakness: None found yet

Got this PDA for my birthday and I love it! I have synced with my Outlook at work and at home so I always have both schedules and appointments with me for work and kids. Also loaded a few games that are great fun for me and the kids. Went appliance shopping and scribbled notes on brands, features and prices to easily keep track of what each store offered. I am an IT manager and this is my first PDA. Should have bought one a long time ago!

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Nice bright display. Can store Adobe and Office documents. Notepad (free writing area).

Weakness: BATTERY life is awful. Synching always throws up messages. Desktop data entry is difficult.

Had a Palm IIIxe prior to this. Upgrade was annoying, it kept throwing out "reset" messages. Love the ability to store Adobe and Office documents. The Notepad feature is awesome.

Battery life is amazingly horrendous to the point I don't turn it on unless I absolutely have to. Can't believe they put this product out to market with the crappy battery life it has. The Adobe and Office documents storage feature is good for quick reference, but editing or even reading lengthy documents is not practical unless the PDA is hooked up to the bulky charger.

The desktop data entry screen is messed up. The fields and text/ labels run into each other. The active field (where the cursor is present) becomes unusably small and springs back to normal size after tabbing out of it. In fact you can't see what is typed unless you tab out of the field. The screen resolution I use normally is 1600x1200 and did try different settings.

Wouldn't recommend buying the Palm Tungsten E. I picked it up for $192 (all incl.).

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Display, software bundle, can sync with USB cable, nice size without using "slider" design, reasonable price.

Weakness: No cradle, no voice recorder, feels a little awkward in my hand without the flip cover behind it.

This is my first PDA and I'm very happy with it! I also considered devices running the other OS. I chose Palm because of it's efficient use of resources like memory, battery power, etc. The included software works well with Word, Excel, and Outlook. I'm finding Graffiti 2 easy to use. The display has nice resolution and is easy to read in all but direct sunlight. I really wish it had a voice recorder but I didn't want to pay another $100+ to get it. I don't care for the "slider-types" either. For $200.00, you will not be disapointed.

Strengths: Great color. Good software bundle.

Weakness: No cradle.

Either it is too new or Palm isn't supporting it well. You can't buy additional cables from them for Hot Sync. ie: One for laptop and one for desktop. There are just "not available". You can't get a slim leather case for it either.....

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Nice Display, while it worked.

Weakness: Unit is Dead after 4 months. No warranty support, online web support stinks, and repair at your own expense.

I purchased this unit to help me decide whether to get a Treo. After just 4 months, I suddenly got a "welcome" screen for a new user, and all my data was gone (some not yet backed up). The next time I tried to turn it on, the unit was lifeless. There are numerous reports of similar problems on Palm's own website "forum".

Palm warranty is just 90 days, and after that service is at your expense. Whatever it costs, I don't think it would be worth it, and I will trash this unit and avoid PalmOne products in the future.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Unit is easy to use. Good color and controls. Unit itself works well...the Palm Desktop and support is another story.

Weakness: Support and Palm Desktop

This was my second Palm (the first was an M100 which was excellent) and I have to confess I'm very disappointed in the Palm Desktop software.
1. In the month view the events for a given day are often out of time sequence. When in the day view there are also two month calendars visible. But double clicking on one of the calendars always takes me back to September 2004.
2. When in the calendar view a list of contacts is visible on the right side of the screen. If there are several entries with the same last name, clicking on a particular name never takes me directly to the expanded view of that name. I always end up somewhere else (clicking on Smith, Joe, will take me to Smith, Alice).
3. Tech support was not helpful at all. First they told me to reload the software. Did that. Then they sent me a new software disk. Installed that. Then they said to reinstall it. Did that.
End result: I'm looking to buy a Dell Axim X30.

Strengths: Clear, easy to use

Weakness: Battary life, MUST recharge every 5-8 days after only accessing once or twice a day!

Palm has to come out with a replacement battary. This is awful. Had a Handspring 2 years and worst it ever got was recharge once a month. I do not play games or leave it on but just add or look up data once or twice a day. I like everything about this Palm EXCEPT the battary life!

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Functionality, MP3 Player, Price

Weakness: For the price none but it would have been cool to include a voice recorder or camera

Glad I got it. It has all the basic functionality and you can snag it at Overstock for $159. Good Outlook integration but be sure to load latest drivers and software from Palm. Also download Real Player and buy yourself an SD card for MP3 playback which is very cool! Some say Avantgo doesn't work but it does.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Price, size,capiability

Weakness: Battery Life stinks! Had to reset after battery died. Charged overnight again but now the "E" is completely dead. Will bury it with my other foolish purcahses. This is my second Palm and my last!

Customer Service is about as worthless as the product. Tried looking on the website for over an hour and can to the conclusion that there is a lot of worthless non-technical information and none of the subjects address battery life or battery failure. And guess what you can talk to a live human being for $25.00. "Get your credit card ready"! To add insult to injury, you can't understand them. Have yet to figure out what language they are speaking. Unfortunately I only understand English.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: I love the feel and quick response of the Palm. 3rd party applications available for many different needs. Had a problem with Hot-syn quick response by email from service.

Weakness: Battery life. A slight fall of my Tungsten onto carpet from about 6inches has left me Tungsten less jury still out if Palm will replace/repair. This shouldn't have blackend the screen.

I would recommend Tungsten E. It is my first Palm and I'm very dependent on it. The variety of third party applications makes the Palm very useful for example: tone downloads, data listing software and dictionaries (must be on SD cards).

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: easy to use have all the basic functions needed in a portable device great price

Weakness: Freezes up when I installed chinese reading software cjkos_os5. Had to reset. Finger prints are very visible against the silver case after using for a while.

This is my first palm.

I like the feel of it and it is quite easy and intuitive to use. Even though more complicated usage of it is still beyond me, I was able to use all the basic features a few hours after opening the box.

The desktop software can be improved to provide more help for beginners like me.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Price, color screen, stainless(like?)body, light, durable, and oh so easy to use.

Weakness: Fingerprints, rub marks on body, no cradle

This is my first PDA and I think I hit the jackpot! The Tungsten E is a winner! It is so easy to maneuver around. The Graffiti 2 has an easy learning curve. Documents to Go 6 is included and a must for any PDA. The 32 megs of RAM is more memory than I think I'll ever need, but there is still a SD/MMC slot on top.
I love how light, yet durable it feels. The little cover sucks as it left rub marks on the metal (not bad though). Get a small/low profile case for it and take advantage of the Tungsten E's size. I'm burning my day planner as I type this. I'll never go back to paper!

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: I like the color display and the ability to watch movie trailers and photo's. The price cannot be beat!

Weakness: The only weakness I would mention is that its OS is a bit awkward at first.

I like this product and found it quite useful once I was able to fully utilize this to its full potential. The price cannot be beat and the performance is excellent. I found this through pricegrabber and would not have purchased this if I was not able to fully compare this PDA to others with a simple click of the mouse. Thanks Pricegrabber!

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Light and feels great in my hands. Affordable.

Weakness: Expansion card needed.

I did do a little bit of research before deciding between a pocket PC and a Palm product. I settled for the Palm T-E. Images are sharp and clear. Fast and great resolution. However, I am not sure what's the maximum expansion (SD)card that I can use on this!!!

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: MP3, Palm OS5, Great Screen

Weakness: No Cradle, Fingerprints Everywhere!

This is Palm is an admirable attempt at bringing the business oriented Tungsten line to the budget-minded consumer.
They've done a good job here. Right off the bat you'll notice this Palm feels, lighter and smaller than most. Still it feels substantial/durable.
Screen is awesome 320x320. Comes with a decent software bundle and mp3 player... but keep in mind you can't use it unless you buy a separate SD card to store your music, not a big deal, but an added expense. I also wish it had a cradle... instead separate mini cables for USB and plug-in power... slightly annoying.
Like it so far, and got a great price.

Tungsten E -- Love It!

Strengths: Love the color screen, the jammed pack-full software, and its ability to customize menus. Easy to use.

Weakness: Battery life is short! No battery to remove/recharge.

I have used the Tungsten E for well over a year now. For years I lugged around a heavy planner. For those of you who need an affordable and convenient organizer, the TE is the PDA to use. You can hotsync your PDA with Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, use the Calendar, keep track of your daily contacts, and other features. You can read e-books, listen to music, look at your photos, and download third party applications (look at the specs carefully, though!). You can do email but I didn't use that.

One annoyance is the location of the power cord. I use a PDA keyboard and I have difficulty placing my PDA vertically on the keyboard. Battery life is a definite problem--the Tungsten E is a good model for those who are near a power source a lot (I am). For those who travel I would recommend a different model.

But if you are looking for a cheap PDA with a huge number of features, then the TE is for you.

Don't buy this PDA

Strengths: Nice design

Weakness: No battery life, only 90 day warranty

This product would be great except that the battery stops holding a charge after about a year of light use. And Palm wants another $125 to replace it. Not a good value in my book. Makes an expensive paperweight.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Top screen, definition is 10/10, small, good software bundle, easy to use

Weakness: Lack of blue tooth/wifi or any other way to communicate other than ir or usb

Was got as present along with GPS satnav system, wonderfull pda, software (when you get past the pay stuff) is plentyfull and easy to install, have to sync with the pc tool but has not been an issue as usualy downloaded to pc first. Have got email, and internet working tho, internet can be slow and painfull. Games and other software works a treat. Would recomend a different launcher as Palm one is bit naf. I got a win XP version free from freewarepalm.com
Only big pain is comms with network and pc, infared works well but is slow, usb is really the best and as it has it's own usb not need to carry a cradle (usefull as they dont make one !) Would buy again but would HAVE to have blue tooth.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Price

Weakness: Well, it doesn't work...

I bought the Tungsten E because I am a medical student and needed it to look up medical conditions and medications when I'm on my rotations. I had it for 5 months when it suddenly decided to stop working. I mailed it in to be fixed, and was charged $120, more than half of what it's worth. They mailed it back to me...and it still wasnt fixed!!! So I had to send it back, and they lost it and cant find it, so now I have to wait until they find some kind of proof that they recieved it so they can mail me a new one, and I still have to pay the $120 for the PDA that they never fixed and then lost. Something that costs $200 shouldnt stop working after only 5 months of very light use. It's a piece of crap, and the policies of the Palm company are ridiciulous. Save your money and dont bother buying a Tungsten E, and better yet, buy a PDA that isnt made by Palm.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Good Display, Easy to use, has programs that are used by empoyer - Palm programs.

Weakness: Battery life. Non replacepable battery. Failing to start up twice. Had to use re-set to start. Support on website is almos non-existant except for knowledge base which is full of horror stories.

We were very pleased with this PDA at first. It seemed just right for use as a school teacher's PDA with all the applicatons available for that purpose installed. Occasionally there were problems with the stilus working on the screen. There have been problems with the synch to our PC. Twice we have had problems getting the PDA to turn on at the most inopurtune times when we needed to use it.

We are not sure that the re-start failure is a battery problem (it was fully charged, we thought) or an O.S. problem. We suspect the O.S. because even other makes of Palm operated PDAs seem to have this problem.
We went to the Palm website for customer support, but only found their knowledge base that was full of comments by other owners of this machine having the same problems but much worse in many cases. Almost all complained about the battery life and the lack of a replacement battery offering (at a reasonable price) by the manufacturer and the fact that the extended warranty did not help at all regarcing premature battery failure.

In all, we would very disinclined to buy this machine again. And, from reading reviews on any other Palm machine we have considered, believe it would be just trading one problem for another to buy one of these. We are amazed that Palm is throwing away their good name in this manner. We may be out of the PDA market for a while.

Palm Tungsten E PDA

Strengths: Great Colors Great Bundle of Apps Memory-Efficient Apps

Weakness: Needs memory (there is never enough!) in order to use it as a MP3 device A good cover that fits in my shirt pocket(??)

Don´t be fooled. For a first time user is a great product.
I didn´t think a PDA was so great. And I will not lose a single lead anymore.
The Notes feature is great
I really enjoy using it as a MP3 Player
I just hope that soon I will be able to buy a Palm that also can manage my two cell lines and I would have all I need in just one device.

Palm Tungsten E Review

In the past year, Palm has introduced a number of exciting new handhelds, catering to those who want a digital camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, thumb keyboard or GSM wireless integrated into a handheld. However, we haven't seen an offering without those bells and whistles, for users who want a small, powerful PDA without the extras for a reasonable price. Enter the Tungsten E, which is only a hair larger...
