2 Star Review Good PDA - But OS is Buggy

Strengths:

Screen size is big, bright, clean and crisp. Built-in WiFi and BlueTooth very useful. NVRAM saves data in the event of battery depletion.

Weaknesses:

Battery life, BUGGY OS, no Palm support!

Posted Jan 4, 2006 - This is my third Palm (fifth PDA) and I purchased it to replace my Tungsten E (which I liked very much). The integrated WiFi & BlueTooth, bigger screen with landscape/portrait capabilities and larger memory were most appealing. The device looks cool and the sound is much improved with the larger speaker. It's a bit heavier too, making me much less worried about breaking it. HOWEVER, this device has serious OS issues and continues to get worse the longer I own the device. I sometimes have to do a soft reset 5-8 times per day to turn it on. As a result, I need to charge the device as often as possible. I have searched countless user forums in search of a solution only come up with multiple replications of my problem with no solution available to date from Palm. In an effort to pinpoint the issue I have removed all third-party software and run the device "stand alone" using only the basic organizer functions with no better results. I would recommend this device only to those who are willing to overlook some annoying software bugs.

5 Star Review King of the hand helds

Strengths:

Bluetooth, screen size, battery life, movies, mp3, built in speaker, wireless internet, non volatile memory, fits in my pocket, makes my bed, cooks my food....

Weaknesses:

wireless is only B, plastic body, cannot read it in the sunlight. SD card limited to 2 Gig.

Posted Jun 10, 2007 - So your looking for a hand held that does everything? You want a phone, MP3, wireless, ect? Stop reading and go buy one of those new fangled phones. But when the battery on that phone goes dead so you cannot call anyone because you were playing games or listening to MP3s, don't come crying to me. If your going to have a phone get a phone. If you want everything else, along with that phone, get a T/X. If you have ever owned a palm pilot before, you know that when your battery goes dead that you loose everything on your machine. Not with the T/X. Its 128 meg of memory is like the flash memory cards it will stay in even after you lose power. My old Zire 71 got wiped every time I forgot to charge it. Battery life. Palm cut back on the processor speed to help extend the battery life. The Zire 72 and some of the tungsten class have a faster processor but a shorter battery life. I really haven't noticed the difference in speed. Screen size. The T/X has a virtural grafitti area which means that when you dont need to write anything you can remove it and have this great big beautiful screen. The screen can be turned 90 degrees for an even bigger view of what ever your looking at. The only complaint I have is its still hard to see the screen on bright sunny days. I have the same problem with my V3 Phone. Multimedia. Speaking of my V3 phone, it does have a nice camera on it. With the built in bluetooth on it and my T/X I can move the pictures I take on my dinky screen phone and put them on the big screen of the T/X. Boy do they look nice. Get a free program called the Core Media Player and you can watch movies, see pictures, listen to MP3s on the T/X's built in speaker. Try that on you IPod when you've lost your head phones. The T/X has a built in SD slot so you can store movies, pictures MP3s, and programs on the memory cards. Even though the current limit on the cards is 2 gigabites, I'm sure that the palm community will write something to allow access to larger 4 gig and larger cards in the future. Wireless. The T/X can access wireless networks any where. Coffee house, library, around town, your neighbors as long as the network is not security locked. Down load your email sync your Avant Go cruse the internet. The problem I have is that you do it at B speed, G would be faster but I'm sure that Palm did it to save on the battery. To sum up I've never written a review before. I am compelled to endorse this product because of the positive experience I have had with the T/X for the last year and a half. During that time I have carried My T/X every day and would be lost with out it. It is the pinnacle of the Palm handhelds.

4 Star Review Palm TIX - 3 month review

Strengths:

Great unit size, screen rotates, wifi and bluetooth, SD card

Weaknesses:

Build quality, battery life when using wifi, playing movie files, rare but random reboots, slightly narrow screen and inconsistant hotsync cable connection

Posted Oct 7, 2006 - I bought the TX after my Tungsten E2 screen broke (user error I might add!) 3 months ago. Although I am very happy with the TX my older E2 felt much nicer to use. I'm not keen on the plastic finish of the TX against the steel finish of the E2. The screen is better to look at on the TX but slightly narrower than on the E2 which makes Graffiti a little bit more difficult than before, that along with the more spongy feel of the TX screen gives the E2 the edge on data input. I usually hotsync wirelessly, which works great unless your copying files onto the memory card, when I revert to the cable the connection fails often which is a real pain. In summary the TX works great, is a pretty good multimedia machine and helps me at work, at home and when I travel... ideal for a PDA. The additional memory and processor speed is really a major benefit, my, rather limited, action game collection definitely runs much faster. I use my TX mainly as a diary and memo device at work but I know it can do so much more when I need it to. Music is very good through the unit but as have an iPod nano it's not something that I use, maybe if it had a FM or DAB radio function would be more useful but that would apply to the Nano too. Movies can be played through the machine but I have found it difficult to get the files down to a reasonable size and not affect quality but that is perhaps more of a reflection on my abilities than the machine itself. Palm software is good overall, the Docs to Go is great for creating or editing simple Microsoft files on the go.

5 Star Review Palm TX

Strengths:

Its Pure Palm, Simple, Effective, Usefull, great battery life as a PIM

Weaknesses:

Battery Life not so good on WiFi

Posted Nov 6, 2005 - I'm an upgrader from a Palm 515, and I actually like Graffiti. But I find with the TX I use the "displayed Keyboard" mode better, and find it easy and fast. Overall menus and functions are well done. The new display is very clear, and crisp. The hotsync operations are very fast, and the Excel/Word/PDF capability is great. The Palm TX is very convenient for reviewing and making minor changes to documents. I like being able to switch from portraight to landscape display modes. I like the Wifi capability. But if you use this a lot, plan on charging once a day. Otherwise, without using Wifi, battery life is several days(4).

4 Star Review Excellent Palm

Strengths:

Fast, thinner than old palm

Weaknesses:

Some bundled software doesn't work without additional $, Graffiti harder to use

Posted Feb 3, 2006 - This replaced my Tungsten (original model), which finally died. Once I worked out that my firewall (Norton, which is more and more problematic) was hanging up the installation, it installed great. It is a nice improvement over the previous. My only two complaints are that the graffiti is harder to use: there are some letters (k, t, i) that I just can't do with graffiti, and I was forced to use the keyboard. Also, it comes bundled with MP3 software, but in order to download songs with the accompanying desktop program, you have to pay and upgrade. Still, it is a worthy, much faster version of my Tungsten, with 8 times the memory, and thinner to boot.

5 Star Review The Hardest PalmOS Device To Beat

Strengths:

Excellent screen, built-in WiFi, perfect weight, memory card slot, very nice software bundle.

Weaknesses:

No voice recording (!), does not come with cradle

Posted Jan 2, 2006 - I had a Clie NR70V, and loved it, but after a while it just got too heavy to carry around (unless I had a briefcase or something) When it came time to replace it, I looked at a few others, but they were too light to be comfortable to hold. Not only is the TX very fast, with a great screen, a nicely enhanced PalmOS, built in WiFi and memory card capability, but it's weight is substantial enough, yet light enough, to be very comfortable both to hold and to carry around. The grafitti 2 takes a little getting used to, but it's more intuitive than before, another plus. The speaker sounds good, but in most cases, the headphone would be better (too bad it didn't ship with one). Finally, the bundled software is all pretty nice, especially Documents To Go; even though Dataviz stripped out many of the REALLY nice features, for most people, what comes bundled will be fine, I think On the (slightly) down side, I understand Palm was trying to reach a price point with this unit, but I wish voice recording didn't have to be sacrificed. I can live with having to buy a cradle, the battery life is more than acceptable for my needs (with WiFi/Bluetooth off, I have used the unit for 5-6 hours on a full charge), and even though the TX has half the internal memory of the T5, I can always add a memory card. But the absence of voice recording is the only thing lacking that I truly miss. That, however, really doesn't spoil the TX for me. I'd still recommend the TX very highly.

4 Star Review Good enough

Strengths:

Great screen, Wi-Fi, bluetooth, Music.

Weaknesses:

No Mic! Limited bluetooth. Wi-Fi empties your battery.

Posted Aug 7, 2006 - I have had Palm IIIc, and Zire71 before. Most of the other reviews are correct, based on my experience. Great screen, battery life, etc. I've got the TX mainly because of Wi-Fi and bluetooth. The "problem" with bluetooth is that is has a limited list of phones you can link to. Is has a "general BT" option but that may or may not work with your phone. I suggest you know wether the TX supports your phone before buying one. For example, it works perfectly with a Motorola's V3 but doesn't work well with Motorola's L7. The software seems to be upgradeable but I couldn't find anything for new phones and as I've seen, I'm not the only one with this problem. When linked is great though, you can take pictures with your phone and copy them to the palm. Click on a contact's phone and have your cellphone call that number, etc. Wi-Fi is great! The only problem with it is that it empties your battery. It's cool to be able to sync to your PC from any hotspot in the world (You have to open your router TCP ports and do some configuration) Of course you can check your email and surf the web. It has no Mic built in, I've seen you can buy one for $14 or so. This is the most missing thing since there are VoIP solutions for palms now. Anyway, I'm not sure how many mins you have until your battery dries using Wi-Fi Must haves wih this Palm are: -Commercial version of pTunes. It rocks. -WiFile: Lets you browse your MS Network, FTP or WebDav dirs for file coppying. This one should have come in the box.

4 Star Review Palm TX works well

Strengths:

Sturdy, bright screen, easy to use

Weaknesses:

Battery not user-replacable

Posted Dec 3, 2005 - Worked right out of the box. Had it connected to our home 802.11b WiFi network in less than a minute and was surfing the web from all over the house. The controls are fairly intuitive. The unit is light, but still feels sturdy. The screen is clear and easy to read.

4 Star Review Palm TX

Strengths:

Much faster than past PDA's

Weaknesses:

A little low in memory

Posted Dec 9, 2005 - So far I really haven't had any problems except not having enough memory, but hopefully a memory card will fix that. I really love haveing the built in WI-FI card and not having to carry a WI-FI card like I had to in the past. Its a nice bright, big screen. Would recommond this to anyone!

5 Star Review Best affordable WI-FI PDA in the market

Strengths:

Integrated Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b),IR Port, Bluetooth; large screen; sleek, compact design.

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Dec 6, 2005 - I used to have a Palm Vx, then tried Pocket PC HP 1945 (great but not integrated Wi-Fi) , and now returned to Palm. This Palm TX model has almost all the features you will need, excellent large bright color display and is very easy to use. There is a nice status bar at the bottom of the screen that gives you access to valuable tools like: Find, Menu, System Info (Time), Bluetooth control, Wi-Fi control, screen rotation to switch between landscape and portrait mode and input area to bring up or hide the graffiti input area or a virtual keyboard. The battery life is good, the Wi-Fi set up is very easy to use. Congratulations Palm for this product !

4 Star Review Palm TX Review

Strengths:

small lightweight, everthing that a palm would do with the option of an ipod in it. Expandable Card, is excellent for adding additional songs or videos for entertaining on trips.

Weaknesses:

Non-replaceable Battery, that is it.

Posted Dec 12, 2005 - I love the fact I can be professional with this device, and also enjoy myself playing my mp3's on it with headphones, and linking it to my bluetooth phone, to make phone calls and receive emails. The WiFi feature is great for this price, in regards to what is all bundled up in this amazing palm for the price advertized. The size is slim, and fits in my suit pocket, and the colors of the screen is brilliant. I have gone through several palms, ever since the old palm V b&w screens, to treos, to now this new device, where I love the seperation of a pocket palm, with the option to connect with my cell phone, or even on a wi-fi network with couple taps on the screen.

5 Star Review GREAT PALM !

Strengths:

GREAT CRISP SCREEN / LARGE RESOLUTION DISPLAY! 128mb MEMORY - MORE THAT ENOUGHT ! MS Office documents as well as MP3s and smller movie clips run smoothly . WiFi IS GREAT !

Weaknesses:

Just the fact that the battery isn't (user) replaceable... and no voice Recorder

Posted Nov 2, 2005 - The Palm I had before TX was Tungsten E, so maybe unconsciously, my review will partially make references to tungsten E. The screen is great ! It is bigger and brighter. Also, the picture that the screen produces is crisper and glossier. The difference in CPU speed is recognizable. I don’t feel “a jumpy moment” when I have to switch for one photo to another. I also felt that 128MB, is not just the matter of capacity, but it seems that this much memory maybe because of CPU speed and OS, is helping even graphically heavy tasks, running smoother. All the application are OK. I like them.

5 Star Review Palm TX

Strengths:

Ease of use Large Screen size Price for a Wi-Fi PDA Bluetooth

Weaknesses:

Battery only lasts a few hours with bluetooth enabled Palm has still not put a button on the screen to exit out of programs easily

Posted Oct 29, 2005 - This PDA is well worth the price. The Wi-Fi feature is easy to use and can pick up signals from a far. Bluetooth was easy to link with my laptop and phone. I have used a lot of PDA's and this is one of Palm's best and it will give mobile windows a challenger. Memory is large and will hold a lot of information.

5 Star Review Excellent Palm TX

Strengths:

Good networking wifi. Awesome 128MB! storage

Weaknesses:

Third party software headaches with companies like Epocrates, Mobilemicromedex, powerone and skyscape especially when synchronizing for updates.

Posted Jul 6, 2006 - I changed from palm Tungsten E to sony clie TJ27. My palm Tungsten E dropped and I was told to pay $100 to fix it. I decided to purchase sony Clie which I really enjoyed buying it. Sony Clie is an excellent pda. I purchased palm lifedrive afterward because of software compatibility and I needed a lot of medical software in my practice. I did not like palm Lifedrive because of memory problem. Palm life drive have only 64MB available for your prc files and a whoopy 4GB! that can not be used for prc files that comes with your secured medical software. I quickly returned palm Lifedrive after I detected the memory flaw!. I purchcased Palm TX that allows you to put a lot of programs (prc files) on its 128MB drive! You need higher MB when buying medical software because of your prc files that comes with each program you purchase. PRC files can only be stored in internal memory and if your device comes with 64MB and you have a lot of secured software to install, you are out of luck! I have a lot of space available on my Palm TX and I also have 1GB SD card that I am using to store other files. I am really enjoying my Palm TX. When I travelled outside of my home couple of weeks ago. I was trying to locate my hotel. Built in wifi on my Palm TX picked up a network and I put the address of where I was and the hotel I was trying to locate. I received point to point driving directions free! on my Palm TX. It is AWESOME!

Strengths:

Large screen, ease to use, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and lowest price.

Weaknesses:

No cradle

Posted Nov 4, 2005 - I was upgrade the Palm TX from Palm m130. The Palm TX is great device. It has bigger screen and colors. It is faster than Palm m130. The price is incredible cheaper! The drawback is no cradle. You have to buy it separate. Other than missing cradle is excellent device and great price.
