Z22

Strengths: Very easy to use for beginners.

Weakness: Lack of expandability.

This is really a great device for the tehno-novice folks. Has a good processor with more than enough memory for beginners. The reputation of Palm company as the manufacturer is reassuring. Can certainly be used as a versatile tool as well.

Easy to use PDA for beginners

Strengths: Low cost, easy to use, color screen, small size is easy to fit in pocket or purse

Weakness: Screen is smaller than state of the art PDAs

This is a very easy to use PDA right out of the box. We purchased this unit for my wife's mom who is not an electronics lover, however the Palm OS and simplified button menus made this an easy to use PDA for her. It is easy to create and store names/addresses, memos, and even upload photos. There are just enough functions to satisfy any beginner without other confusing features. There are no wireless or online functions, so this would not be the unit to get for any expecting to expand their PDA later on. Durability of the unit remains to be judged, but the overall build quality feels good.

Palm Z22

Strengths: Compact size, features

Weakness: User manual not included, must be downloaded from web site.

For those who don't need one device that tries to be everything (PDA, phone, camera, music player) the Z22 is perfect. It's small and lightweight (2.7"x4.05"x.6", 3.4 oz.)and provides all the features you need for a basic PDA. It provides 20 MB of user memory to store contacts, appointments, photos and games. The color display has good resolution. It syncs to your computer via included USB cable. It's powered by a rechargeable battery with an included AC adapter that plugs into the unit's USB port. Operation of the unit is very intuitive and the included software installed without any problem. The software includes a program that allows you to transfer photos from your computer to the PDA for display. Another nice calculator feature allows you to enter the cost of your meal and it calculates the tax and tip and gives you the per person cost based on the number of diners you enter. Saves fighting over the dinner bill split. Unit does not come with a case, one must be purchased separately.

Big things in litttle packages

Strengths: Holds alot of info

Weakness: No case, No instructions. Have to download Cd or go to website.

I am so excited to have my very first palm. It is perfect for a beginner like me. I have already downloaded pictures and added all my contacts from Microsoft Outlook. I like that I can enter this info on my computer and transfer it to my Pda. The first time I Hotsync', I was sure something would go wrong. But surprise! There were pics of my baby boy staring at me from this little screen. I also added pics to each of my contacts. You can customize the colors and fonts to your taste. If only this palm had e-mail, it would be perfect!

Great PDA

Strengths: Easy to use, Bright Screen, lots of on-board memory

Weakness: none so far

My wife bought this after borrowing my Zire 21 a few times. She loves the bright screen and that we can make photos of our daughter the background screen. It has loads of memeory to hold lots of names, addresses, appointments, ganmes and photos. Realy easy to use software - Palm does it again.

Z22 - A winner for the datebook market. Throw that...

Strengths: Price. Ultra solid construction. Durable, foolproof computer/charger port. Long battery life. Simple, easy to use programs. More memory than you need. Looks great. Blue Tooth. Light as a feather.

Weakness: Mediocre screen image. Fuzzy, sometimes tiny fonts. Programs could interface better. Audio hard to hear.

I had several PDAs - Pocket PC and Palm - with all the bells and whistles, and I got tired of the crashes and the resets and wading through all the extras to get to what I need a PDA to do - Keep me on track.

The Z22 is quite a value. It is so durable I would not hesitate to give it to a high or middle schooler. It looks great, is as light as a feather, fits into the side pockets inside my handbags, and has my dadebook and my contacts. It also comes a number of different programs, including one called Handyshopper that should work pretty well if you are willing to spend the time to set up your shopping lists.

The fonts really could be better, but the overall value of the Z22 more than makes up for this. As well, the datebook, tasks and contacts also could interface better but are perfectly adequate as they are provided you do not need complicated cross data for work functioning, such as sales calls.

When I purchased my Z22, I also bought Palm's lovely, black-leather-and-white-stitching Z22 cover with loop closure that looks like a datebook. I get the feeling Palm really reasearched their market for this.

Palm Z22

Strengths: 1. Great product for the price 2. Good beginner Palm

Weakness: 1. Do not buy for anything more than basic hanheld tasks

This is a pretty good little PDA. Plus right now Palm.com gives you a free air case with the order which makes it absolutely worth it. However, just know that it is onlt for beginning users and is really just a very fancy scheduler/ address book.

Excellent choice for first handheld organizer

Strengths: Very small, light weight, user-friendly, good technical support from Palm (FAQ), first charge of battery last very long.

Weakness: Not too much information from other users, Not case accesory in the market even at Palm.com.

This is the first time I own such device. I am very excited about it. The transition from post-it to handheld has been kind of hard, in terms of getting used to it, but everything takes time. It has been very easy to use graffitti, all software included. But make sure you read everything otherwise it is kind of hard for you to guess some things. I would recommend this product to anyone who is willing to get rid of little note books, post it etc.

Found a case at Palm website for Z22. It is leather and it only cost $7.99. Make sure you go under accessories and then put in what type of palm you have. This case and others are listed under the Z22 model.

Plam Z22 - Great for fitting in a purse

Strengths: Size, capacity and clarity of screen

Weakness: Rechargeable non-replaceable battery will eventually wear down

The Palm Z22 is a compact unit capable of fitting neatly in purse or front shirt pocket carrying all of one's necessary information. It is a basic no frills unit that packs a lot of punch

Z22 Handheld PDA

Strengths: small size

Weakness: instruction book on disc. not able to read without being on the computer or downloading it into the pda first.

I like the size of the Z22 PDA, as well as the price. I was looking for something small and simple that I can keep contact information with me at all times, withogh having to haul around a day planner. I don't know if I'll use the calendar much....but you never know.

I don't like the fact that it doesn't come with an instruction booklet. I like to read about things...and not on the computer or the pda...

The best entry level Palm yet.

Strengths: 32 MB of memory, easy to use, color screen, and small price.

Weakness: Could use a memory card slot, no instruction booklet.

The new re-branding effort by Palm involves removing the Zire and Tungsten series. The new TX and Z22 are helping Palm get money off of something besides Treos! With 32 MB of memory and a bright color screen, the price is way too low(in a good way). The design is sleek and resembles an iPod. The 5-Way navigator is easy to use and highly convenient. The Z22 also has a very wide variety of PIM programs and a nice CD with 3rd Party Software. It might have a very flexible design that might seem fragile, but it really is very sturdy(like the iPod Nano.

Overall, anyone who just wants to get organized or is a PDA Collector like me, should consider looking at this $99 system.

If I can use it,, anyone can use it!

Strengths: VERY user friendly: Few buttons, no confusion; light weight; easy set up; not for geeks.

Weakness: No case included. Not for geeks.

This is truly the PDA for those of us who are technologically disadvantaged....Or, over 50. If you fear all things involving computers, fear not the Z22. From the installation software to actual use, this is the perfect organizer for "us". My Palm Z22 arrived yesterday and I have already set up all my appointments and reminders for 2006...Happy New (organized) Year to me!

Great new PDA

Strengths: Small size, color screen, great price

Weakness: The font is a little small, sometimes a little difficult to read. The sound is not as loud as older units.

This is a great new pda. I really like the color screen, larger memory, and compact size of the unit. The rechargeable batteries are very convenient - they recommemd charging for 30 minutes per day, but it seems to do fine with only about 5 minutes a day.

The alarm sounds aren't quite as loud as older units, such as the M105, but are adequate.

Great Little PDA

Strengths: Excellent battery life. Bright color screen. Great buttons. Plenty of memory. Just a great little organizer.

Weakness: Small screen. No SD slot. Max 4096 colors.

For anyone needing a small personal organizer with the ability to sync with a PC and play games, this PDA is perfect. You have the entire array of Palm apps and games at your fingertips. And you'll never have to worry about battery life.

fun toy

Strengths: small size, low price, plethora of palm software

Weakness: low resolution screen, no memory card or bluetooth

I love my Z22. I originally bought it for my mother to put medical textbooks on, but it didnt work out.
I use it for notes and games particulary PocketCiv. Palm has tons of freeware and shareware and it is easy to beam programs from one palm to another over IR.
I dont do any syncing with a PC. It would have been much better with a memory card, but palm has to show differences btwn their products.
The lack of a high-res screen blocks you from playing some of the best games. Bummer

Good organizer, would have been even better with...

Strengths: easy and straightforward to use, works well as an organizer, appointment book, etc.

Weakness: screen resolution is not adequate for viewing pictures, memory is only 32MB.

This is a very nice unit for somebody like me who does not need cellphone, Bluetooth, wireless and other fancy stuff on their PDA, just the basics. It is easy to use and affordable. The screen resolution is not good though - ina picture of a sky you could clearly see the pixels. 32MB is adequate for an organizer, but you need more memory if you are going to download e-books on it.

In conclusion, I wish they made this with Tungsten T5's screen and memory - this would have been perfect.

Palm software is awful

Strengths: The z22 is very user friendly and offers basic but reliable functionality.

Weakness: The software that comes with the z22 is of terrible quality. Mac installation does not sync with iCal or Address Book.

The Palm Desktop Sync software that comes with the product is of extremely poor quality. It does not synchronize information between the Palm and iCal or Address Book. The suggestion given in the Palm website (using iSync) is equally faulty. The only solution is to buy a separate piece of software (MissingSync) at $39.95, yet it is strongly suggested to first uninstall the Palm software. And this is nearly impossible for a standard use. Even an expert user needs to sweat and resort to several online forums to find a solution.
eventually the MissingSync software works fine and connects iCal and Address Book to your Palm.
I strongly discourage any Mac user to install the Palm Desktop software.

Paper is Not Obsolete Yet

Strengths: Ease of Use, Good Price for Basic PDA Functionality

Weakness: Flimsy and unreliable

Upon first receiving my Z22, I thought I was in love. I could put by 2+ lb Franklin Planner into storage and rely on an electronic wonder to schedule my days and track my tasks. And for 5 days, it seemed that my dreams had come true. Unfortunately, on Day 6, it ceased to work despite having been treated with all the tender consideration that a new toy deserves. Daily hotsyncing has kept me from losing too much data, but I can't help but be reminded that paper never breaks down, and never becomes obsolete.

Keep looking...

Strengths: Lots of features

Weakness: 8 month life

My Z22 worked great for about 8 months of very, very light use. Then the screen developed problems. The touchscreen went bad and now nothing works. I have spent hours trying to solve this problem.

Palm customer service is a complete joke (both phone and email). Customer service (via email) provided me instructions that made the problem worse. Customer service (via phone) advises I can return it for repairs for $70 (I didn't pay but about 85 for it to begin with!).

Were I to do it again, I would pass on any kind of Palm - due to the extremely short warranty period (90 days) and the very poor customer service (both email and by phone). And $70 to fix an $85 device? What a joke that is....

My advice is to pass on this product and to look for a manufacturer that is prouder of their product and provides a longer warranty. ...

Palm Z22

It can’t be a coincidence that the new low-end Palm Z22 has that iPod vibe working from the time you unpack it. Clearly, this very light and highly usable consumer-oriented organizer yearns to be as user-friendly, cute, and handy as Apple’s blockbuster music gadget. The white... <p>

Palm Z22

All facts considered, the Z22 is powered by a pretty healthy 200MHZ processor and 32 megs of RAM (20 of which can be used for storage). Physically the unit is small and stylish, borrowing simple clean styling cues of another hot market trend of the moment, the iPod. Interfacing is done via the 2.5 inch diagonal touch screen display capable of displaying thousands of colors at a 160 x 160 pixel...
