With 256MB of storage, the Tungsten T5 handheld from palmOne lets you carry more and do more. Word documents. Spreadsheets. PowerPoint presentations. Photos. MP3s. The works. And because it's flash memory, all that information is saved even if the power runs down when you're on the go and don't have time to recharge or synchronize. Better yet, the stunning 320 x 480 color screen lets you see more in both landscape and portrait modes. The real beauty of the Tungsten T5 You can transfer files and even whole folders from your desktop to your handheld, so you have what you need on the road, in a meeting, or when working from home. Even use it like a USB removable drive to work on those files on another computer. Just when you're thinking there couldn't be room for anything more, we've also built-in Bluetooth wireless technology so you can check email and connect to the Internet on the go. All this and the Tungsten T5 still fits right in your pocket. minimize

Strengths:

Beautiful screen. Plenty of memory. Great sound. Love that it is a full screen.

Weaknesses:

Difficult to restore palm programs from previous pda. Unstable OS. No instructions or manual on how to use the new drive mode or file transfer system. Speaker on the back of the pda. No cradle.

Posted Jan 6, 2005 - I upgraded from a T3 to the T5. I had a nightmare of a time restoring my info from the T3. The problem was that some of my programs were too big. I use alot of medical programs that take up alot of space. I wound up installing everything from scratch instead of restoring info by hotsyncing. I finally figured out how to use the new file transfer system which made everything so much more simple. If only I knew how to use it from the beginning. Now I know where to put what files and everything is up and running. So far, so good. I would definitely recommend this pda if it is your first one. The new file transfer system lets you drag and drop install files right into the pda, no long hotsyncing times. If this is an upgrade and you use skyscape programs, go to their support page before you try to restore. I also think that the top of the line product should have a cradle included, my T3 had one.

Strengths:

Stylish & lightweight. Can be used as a USB drive (very cool!) and mp3 player. Internal memory, as well as card memory available. Great color and long-lasting battery.

Weaknesses:

The T5 does not work with your accessories/adapters from the T3 or other Palms. That means having to buy all new accessories! No built-in wi-fi access.

Posted Feb 9, 2005 - This is a great PDA--it's the third PDA I've had in the last three years (I'm a gadget person and love the latest-greatest) and definitely the best one yet. I was a little frustrated that most of the software and peripherals that I had been using with my T3 were not compatible, but that's getting better as more software vendors port their software over to the T5 capabilities. The display looks awesome and I love having the ability to utilize the full screen for movies and photos. The battery also lasts quite a bit longer than any PDA I've had before, and with the built-in flash memory, if the PDA runs out of battery, you won't necessarily lose everything. Great buy--would definitely recommend it!

Strengths:

This is my first PDA. Its worth a deal.Very good battery life. Jump drive feature gr8. Word & excel docs dont require any conversion s/w. Hot sync very good. Hand writing tool very good. Great looks

Weaknesses:

In particular no weakness. I did not consider Wifi as my criteria so no probs for me. But then this PDA has lot of flexibility. I dont think it has any weakness.

Posted Dec 5, 2004 - Great deal for the price. this PDA is very versatile to use. The processing speed is very good. It has very good file transfer feature. Easy to use. It can be used as a jump drive. The best part is that the hot sync feature exchanges info between your PC and PDA so both devices are in sync with each other. The PDA has good resolution. Sound quality is good for the speaker of the size of PDA. It has one expansion slot which is enough for a PDA. In short, its a revolution in the PDA world.

1 Star Review Palm T5

Strengths:

Fits in shirt pocket, larger screen which is nice for things like spread sheets

Weaknesses:

Does not alway work, software hangs up, connector is weak.

Posted Oct 26, 2005 - I had a Palm M500 for about 4 years and decided to upgrade only for the color. I had discovered that the engineers that I work with did not use their PDAs when because their’s did not fit into their pocket. I was always the one to have my PDA handy in meetings and available for retrieving phone numbers and data. I use it for scheduling by syncing with MS Outlook. This is the best thing ever. I highly recommend the purchase of a PDA that is painless to carry. Now for the bad. I am now on my 4th unit. The latest replacement recently arrived and I am in the process of evaluating it. Now the connector hot sync connector has gone bad. The software results in random hang-ups. Advantgo will sometimes download and sometimes will not download. I never had these problems with the M500 and regret having made the change. Palmone service has hand me on hold for over 30 minutes on a toll call. I later found out I could get through the 800 number for technical issues, but they do not make it easy to discover this fact. Once I get through to tech support they typically make me go through all the tests that I have already performed. On the average I would say it takes >30 minutes of talk time to get tech support to agree there is a problem and to take action. In summary, if the thing worked without issue and the cable was somewhat robust I would be very satisfied. Currently I am an unhappy customer that really likes pocket sized PDAs.

Strengths:

Slick design. Excellent screen. Easy navigation. Fast.

Weaknesses:

Expensive

Posted Nov 19, 2004 - Very nice product. The processor is fast, good for games as well as word processing and spread sheets. Nice graphics with a high resolution. Excellent sound quality. Although capable, not practical to be used as MP3 player since it drains the battery. Good memory available to store files and pictures. The MMC/SD card slot is very hany and practical to transfer files, but even better, it can be connected to the computer directly and used as an external flash/hard drive. I like this PDA. One of the best.

Strengths:

nice form factor, comes with bluetooth, memory can not be lost due to low battery. full size screen

Weaknesses:

the digitizer is inaccurate, making data entry very inefficient

Posted Apr 6, 2005 - this was supposed to be the model that everyone was waiting for. a full size screen pda with virtual graffiti, and still in the classic palm v/palm m505/tungsten e form factor. the new type of memory in the pda is great. Normally, if you let the battery drain, you lose all the data in the pda and you have to rely on the backup that the palm software automatically makes whenever you last synced. But chances are, if you haven't charged in that long, you probably haven't synced in that period of time. With the tungsten t5, you don't lose any data. it is just like a memory card for a digital camera or pda. all the information is still there even if there is no power. HOWEVER, the really bad thing about the t5 is that the digitizer is very inaccurate relative to the pdas with dedicated graffiti areas. The digitizer is what makes you able to input words into the pda using the stylus. I have used many palm pilots, including 3 sonys, and 3 palm branded pdas. This is the most inaccurate out of all of them. It is to the point where i would sacrifice the extra screen space to be able to input words more accurately. I have tried using a different t5 in case mine was defective. it was still very inaccurate.

Strengths:

Has a good battery life, doesn't need to be charged all the time. Has a lot of memory, you really don't need a memory card.

Weaknesses:

For a beginner, like me, it was hard to figure out, it comes with no manual, the online manual is huge and it's hard to find what you're looking for. The screen isn't as nice and bright as an HP.

Posted Jan 25, 2005 - I like the fact that it's small and has a lot of memory. I especially like the flip cover that comes with it. It protects the screen but doesn't add a lot of bulk! It holds everything I need including my digital pictures. Now that I've figured it out I really like it. It just took me a few days to figure it out.

Strengths:

Ability to hot sync data from other palm pda, bluetooth capability to interchange with my nokia 6820

Weaknesses:

Price is a little steep

Posted Jan 3, 2005 - This PDA appears to have the quality much like the Tungsten T3, but with much more memory, and a fixed display with the landscape/portrait layout. Very sleek and versatile. Photos can be transferred via bluetooth or by just viewing the compatible SD memory from my Casio camera. Very useful for carrying photos in your pocket.

4 Star ReviewLearning about this PDA's features and capabilitie ...

Strengths:

This is my first PDA. It was very easy to initially set up and get started with basic calendar and task features. Synchronization with laptop is very easy.

Weaknesses:

Documentation on PDA is very limited and no hard copy documentation provided. Thus it's a struggle to learn about the capabilities of the device.

Posted Jan 9, 2005 - Learning about this PDA's features and capabilities has been a slow process for me due to limited documentation on the device itself. The features I have learned to use (mainly calendar and tasks) have worked well and synchronization to my laptop occurs without problems. Figuring out how to use other features such as how to synchronize with my Hotmail contacts list and how to backspace / delete has been a chore. This device has more computer power and features than I've been able to figure out how to use. For the few features I've used to date, I probably overpaid. Performance of the device has been solid with no technical problems to date.

Strengths:

Easy to use for the novice PDA user. Online manual for Mac users is extensive.

Weaknesses:

First download of files from CD to desktop was incomplete.

Posted Nov 11, 2004 - This is my first PDA and I've found it fairly easy to learn my way around the unit. Installation documentation that comes in the box is incomplete for us Mac users. Still, it's a good machine. The storage on this is huge compared to earlier models. The screen and graphics are extremely sharp. Hot Sync is easy and quick. I'm finding the move from paper to PDA fun on this unit.
