Strengths:

Very easy to learn and use. The ability to take my Excel spreadsheets on the go.

Weaknesses:

Battery Life, Paint rubs off easily (the PalmOne logo at top left corner is almost gone).

Posted Feb 1, 2005 - This is my first handheld unit and overall, I like it. First time buyers should be aware that you need an additional memory card to listen to music, or add a lot of additional programs for the unit. I found that there are a lot of additional programs out there. The camera is OK, doesn't work well in low light conditions. Nice feature to have if you need it. I have transferred other jpg. pictures to the handheld which was easy to do and nice to be able to take with you. I have not used the bluetooth feature.

Weaknesses:

battery, no wi-fi.

Posted Apr 5, 2005 - Got this unit for 300$ ( 150$ after rebate) from officedepot. What I have is a silver version. I have frequently heard people talking about the peeling of paint on the surface. So I got the silver instead. I have owned a Palm M105 for quite a while. Now this is a far more advanced model. It gives almost everything you want for a handheld. You can play MP3 songs in this unit. And the video playing is amazingly good. I wish they can manage the battery life better. It runns out of battery so constantly that I am afraid that my data will be lost sooner or later. wifi connection is not included, which is one of the essential thing you want for today's handheld. And it is expensive as an accessory.. Overall, this is a good handheld.

Posted Mar 26, 2005 - I gave it to my niece as a gift. She like it. It is very stylish and easy to use. This edition is much better than the normal blue one which I originally have for a while and the pain starts peel off. All other function of this model is identical to the normal one.

Strengths:

1)Very slick exteior design. Mine Zire 72 is the silver sepecial edition which includes a carry case. 2)Very responsive for various application. 3)UI of the palmOS is nice too.

Weaknesses:

1) Small memory. 2) Short Battery life 3) Hope they develop a power save mode so that I can get alert always.

Posted Mar 22, 2005 - Overall I like this small pad. It works swiftly. This camera comes very cute: taking a picture of my wife when she is eating has lots of fun. The real hope is to have a power save mode so that I can get all the meeting alert all the time while it is put into sleep mode. Great!

Strengths:

Lightweight, nice screen colour, fast processor

Weaknesses:

Posted Apr 24, 2005 - The palmone zire 72 works well, with ample memory and a bright color display. The Built-in camera, while limited in functionality, is nice to have. Bluetooth works well. Battery life is very reasonable - as long as you don't play MP3s continually and keep Bluetooth off when you don't need it. Overall I like this PDA.

Strengths:

Durable (daughter already dropped it once) Screen is vivid and clear Multimedia works suprisingly well (even movies). Paint doesn't peel

Weaknesses:

Battery life (3 hours max). Difficult Bluetooth setup, documentation could be better.

Posted Jan 24, 2005 - I paid about $325 for the Zire 72 SE and the IR keyboard. They both work well. I still cannot get the Zire to connect to the web via Bluetooth. That is my biggest complaint. My only other complaint would be the battery life. The screen is great, one of the better ones I've seen. I can watch movies and listen to music with the included software. I read alot of complaints about the camera, for it being on a PDA and so small, it's not bad. I would not count on it as a primary. It Hotsyncs pretty quickly.

4 Star ReviewAlthough I have been a PocketPC user for many year ...

Strengths:

1-megapixel camera. Bluetooth. Plays full-length DivX movies at 320x320.

Weaknesses:

Square, 320x320 screen, not the best for movies. Wi-Fi neither built in nor inexpensively added. PocketPC users will find PalmOS very "unusual."

Posted Apr 13, 2005 - Although I have been a PocketPC user for many years now, I saw an amazing deal on this Palm Zire 72 Silver, so I decided to try it out (and then maybe give it to a relative or friend). It's thin, light, and easy to handle. The built-in camera is nice, with more pixels than the usual cell-phone camera. Bluetooth is useful for Hotsynching, or for surfing the Internet if you have a Bluetooth cell phone (I don't, unfortunately). I miss Wi-Fi (which my latest PocketPC has). Since the Zire 72 Silver has only an SD slot, and that slot is really needed for programs and data, the most practical Wi-Fi solution for this unit would be a combo Wi-Fi/memory SDIO card--but those are still quite expensive. If you use a program like PocketDVD to convert commercial DVDs to DivX format, the Zire 72 Silver is quite capable of playing such movies at 320x320. They look beautiful but small, since the square screen size of the unit is not even appropriate for old 4:3 movies, much less the newer CinemaScope films. PocketPC users will find PalmOS very quirky and simplistic, almost toylike. Almost all applications automatically install themselves in main RAM without even offering an alternative installation location; I then have to copy the application to the SD card, then remove it from main RAM. Some programs refuse to be copied to the SD card; other programs copy there but then refuse to run properly. This quirkiness was common in the Palm-Size PC days of old, but nowadays most Pocket PC programs install and run perfectly on an SD or CF card. So this Zire 72 Silver is cute at the amazing after-rebate price I paid (almost $0), but at full price I would prefer a Pocket PC.

Strengths:

Multimedia supported, good quality color screen, bluetooth sync supported

Weaknesses:

Short battery life and hard to set up internet via bluetooth

Posted Feb 12, 2005 - I bought it as a gift for my girlfriend. I use Palm for couple years, therefore, I am not used to the botton configuration. (no problem for new user) The audio quality is OK (without headset) and the camera quality is acceptable for a small device like this. I had a hard time to set it up to connect to internet via bluetooth via my internet-enable desktop. It's not easy to set up and the manual didn't address the problem. (don't know who should I blame, Palm or WinXP? or my bluetooth manufacture?) Anyway, unless you are a computer expert or you also bought the PalmOne WiFi SDIO, I will suggest you not to think of Zire 72 if you considered the wireless internet feature as a primary factor. Updated: 2/12 2005 I apply GPRS service (T-mobile) for my Sony T610. It's very easy to setup and work perfectly!! Bluetooth rocks! :)

Posted Mar 20, 2005 - Part of the reason I bought the Zire 72 was for the camera. I thought this for the blue version are out of shape now. it would be a nice extra to have something to take snapshots with. I wasn't expecting much as far as picture quality goes but I can get some pretty decent prints out of it. The video camera feature is fun to use but don't expect a great or even good quality clip.

4 Star Review zire 72 special edition

Strengths:

good tool for students: document viewer, voice record lectures, picture x-rays.

Weaknesses:

package does not provide a good case

Posted Jul 14, 2005 - The palm zire 72 is an all inclusive package for academics. It provides special tools for time management and document viewing. It is good to take pictures of x-rays and to review stuff on the go. Voice recording is special for getting that stuff that not even quick note takers can. However, it does not bring with a good case nor does it provide a large memory to support its functionality.

Posted Mar 29, 2005 - This PDA is absolutely great in that it is built solid. I like the feel of it on my hand. The screen is absolutely beautiful and I love the built-in-camera. I use it to take quick snapshots, its very convenient because I don't carry my camera everywhere. The camera is 1.2 MP and because of that, the pictures are relatively good quality. Overall, I like this PDA, Its a great buy!
