4 Star Review Does not disappoint. Works well but needs extra software

Strengths:

Beautiful full VGA screen. Can use with stylus or as touchscreen. Connectivity features include WiFi, Bluetooth and USB. Expansion includes SD and CF. Runs Windows Media 6.

Weaknesses:

Touchscreen is a bit tricky to use around the screen edges. A bit on the heavy and large side. Does not include GPS. It is expensive.

Posted May 28, 2008 - I bought this mainly to use at home as a baby monitor. It handles Streaming video from the baby room very well at full VGA resolution. The software included is somewhat limited but there are some great free utilities out there including Google Maps, TCPMP, Total Commander (for getting to files on the network) and Live Search. I am considering Opera as a browser replacement (not free), Mobile IE is not bad but it's not the greatest. Opera offers full-page viewing as on the iPhone. Also purchased a 32GB CF card for a bit over $100 for videos and music. No compatibility issues however there seems to be some battery drain with the CF card in. Handles email quite well.

4 Star Review Very Versatile

Strengths:

Full VGA 4" VGA (antiglare) LED-screen at 200dpi, 128 MB RAM, SDHC and CF support, multiple programmable buttons, ambient light sensor. Unit back is rubber (no sliding here)

Weaknesses:

The touchscreen requires more pressure at top than at the bottom. plastic case. The Up button is hard to press. VGA resolution makes graphic extensive programs even slower. Single touch screen only

Posted 1 year ago - Overall, I like this product. It is very versatile, especially if you add 3rd party software like Adobe Reader 2.0, Spb Mobile Shell, and Opera Mobile.

3 Star Review Unremarkable overall

Strengths:

Fast processor, WM6, good quality sound, reasonable size, SDHC support

Weaknesses:

Slower than previous models that sported the same speed processor; requires harder screen taps/strokes than any other PDA I've ever owned; frequently freezes during Syncs; screen appears washed out.

Posted Feb 10, 2008 - It's nice to see that the power PDA market isn't totally dead. Many of us want a PDA with these features, without adding a phone. It's just that this unit seems mediocre overall...with a slower-than-expected performance, given its 624MHz processor, and somewhat washed-out appearing screen. It freezes often during Syncs (but doesn't require a reset; if you just wait a couple of minutes, it starts working again). HP doesn't give you a cradle, just a cable. And finally, it requires a strangely hard screen tap/stroke - much harder than any other PDA I've ever owned (this is my 8th). I find the HTC Advantage to perform better, but that unit is too big to fit in a pocket. Since this one fits, this is what I'm using.

3 Star Review Not worth the wait

Strengths:

LED Screen; WM6; 128mb RAM, New DPad; compact flash/SD slots

Weaknesses:

Cheap casing; Touchscreen not sensitive; expensive!

Posted Mar 29, 2008 - Well, after delays and more delays, this device finally came to be. With many companies shying away standalone PDA, it was breath of fresh air to see that the PDA market isn't totally dead. I purchased this device to upgrade from the HX4700. I tore into the box and charged up the device upon receiving my shipment. The new iPaq 211 looked gorgeous online, however it was only skin deep. The first thing I noticed was the cheap casing. What happened here? The previous model utilized mainly metal, but the iPaq 211 was encompassed by lot of cheap plastic. The new WM6 interface was not much of an upgrade as I have yet to see any major difference between WM5. It just didn't have the quality feel. The new LED screen was gorgeous to see, but still when compared with the HX4700, was not much of an upgrade as the previous model already had a very colorful screen. The new DPad was a blessing as the touchpad on the HX4700 was very difficult to use. A total of 128mb of RAM was installed. Various places list only 64mb-which is incorrect. It was nice that HP didn't make the same blunder to limit the RAM as that was one of the limiting factor on the HX4700. Again there are both compact flash and SD slots on this new device. The SD slot can accommodate the new, higher capacity SDHC format. One other issue that many are complaining about is the new touch screen. It is not very sensitive especially at the edge. You have to actually play with the unit to understand. It is too difficult to describe. Some may find the new "feel" annoying. It takes some time to get use to it. With an original MSRP of $399, HP decided to up the MSRP to $449 when the device was finally released to the public. Was the upgrade worth it? I do not think this new device was worth the upgrade from the previous predecessor. However, if you do not own the HX4700 or Dell's x51V, this new device might be what you are looking for.

1 Star Review Very disapointing

Strengths:

Large Screen, and great for email and contacts linking with outlook

Weaknesses:

Too big when compared to other devices like phones that have similar "on the go" programs. The sync software or the unit have some compatibility issues where the unit has to be hard reset regularly.

Posted 4 months ago - Does not have the quality and flexibility of previous HP organizers. Slow when searching. It is bulky. Storage card info cannot be modified or retrieved with the sync software. Memory restricts usage of large copied or downloaded files.
