5 Star ReviewPocketPC 2003 Wifi will not allow you to 'explore' ...

Strengths:

bluetooth & wifi easily configure and work great; great screen; very fast processor; discontinued and marked-down 3800 accessories work great

Weaknesses:

could use longer battery life, but if you buy the cheap, discontinued 3800 model jacket 'PLUS', you get another battery.

Posted Oct 1, 2003 - PocketPC 2003 Wifi will not allow you to 'explore' other computers or drag files to or from them; its good only for mail and internet. Bluetooth configures easily for a cellphone or GPS. Buy the old 3800 jacket "plus" and you get full size pcmcia ability (i used my old 56k baud pcmcia modem with no special drver, or an ethernet card. -great when no wireless is available in your hotel). 5555 is Great for getting work done in bits of availabe time in WORD & EXCEL. Can be charged from your usb port with the microinnovations cable. you can set up a peer to peer Wifi connection between the 5555 and your wifi-enabled laptop coonected to the web in you hotel room. Then just carry the 5555 around to the pool, beach or to near-by meetings at your hotel. There is nothing being developed that will make the 5555 obsolete any time soon

3 Star ReviewVery impressive speed, screen, and options availab ...

Strengths:

Speed, memory, beautiful screen, expandability

Weaknesses:

Appears to have been released way before all the bugs were worked out

Posted Jul 24, 2003 - Very impressive speed, screen, and options available for this new iPAQ, e.g. the built-in 802.11b and Bluetooth. Other than that, I can't recommend this expensive monster. There are so many bugs that one wonders if HP rushed it out to market knowing that work needed to be done; e.g., it constantly turns itself off once or twice just seconds after I turn it on. The batteries are fully charged, but it will just immediately turn off after I turn it on. If I keep this up in a sort of "battle with the machine," it will turn on and stay on after 2-3 "turn-ons." And no, I don't have it set to turn off after just a few seconds to save battery life. There's also no CF slot; one has to buy a LARGE expansion pack to gain CF - making the unit too big for any standard carrying case. Windows Mobile 2003 is only compatible with 2/3 of the software for Pocket PC 2002; I will, for the foreseeable future, need to carry 2 Pocket PCs, or just do without some very useful software. (This follows Microsoft's pattern of introducing a new OS iteration - read Windows XP - that requires everyone to upgrade everything since it's not necessarily backward-compatible with previous OSs.) Developers of popular software, such as Battery Pack 2003 and Journal Bar 2003, are valiantly trying to keep up, but some of the bugs are yet to be worked out even with those programs. Even MS Reader has serious problems on this machine. Save your money and at least wait for the OS to catch up - avoid my fate!

Strengths:

Fast, beautiful color, lots of memory 128 mg, security,

Weaknesses:

As another writer mentioned, it always turns off. Not all software compatible, very low battery when WiFi is in use, still no CF slot.

Posted Jul 29, 2003 - I had to return my 3975 because of similar problems. Great tool to work with, but I would recommend waiting until the bugs are worked out and then go for it.
