Good news! Firmware Update Available From WestingHouse! Fix your Lockup Problems!
Taken from a post by Peter S

"Alright, in order to get the latest FW for your LVM-42w2 you need to call:

(866) 287-5555 - Westinghouse Technical Support.

You need to inform them that you are having a "Power Lock-up" issue with your set and that your current Firmware is X.XX. You have been informed that the latest Firmware 1.19 corrects this issue and that you would like to be updated to the latest Firmware.

They SHOULD take your information and have someone contact you from one of their Third-Party support organizations (such as IAI) to arrange a time to COME TO YOU to check out the set and perform the upgrade.

Again, there are two important points here:

1) Customer Service is aware of the issue as a Power Lock-Up issue.

2) Someone will be sent to your location to update your set on-site.

Please pass along this information to everyone. I am sure that once Tech Support begins to hear from everyone on the site, that they will get better and better at dealing with this quickly.

If you do not receive the answer you were looking for, please, ask to speak to a manager and to schedule a time to have someone come out to your location to check on the set."

I think he means how do you check your firmware. Per Zoglog's review: "To check your firmware goto the menu and on the rightmost option check info. It should say 1.11, 1.16 or 1.19 depending on what firmware you have. If you have 1.11 or 1.16 it's highly recommended you get the new firmware to fix the lockup problems. Further Explanation in the User Discussions topic."

you can see what firmware you have by checking info in the menu. Currently the Top firmware is 1.00 since they decided to recycle numbers for some reason. So far I have not heard a single case where somone has had thier firmware successfuly upgraded by a tech so I think Westinghouse is a bit behind schedule ATM...

Where did you get this info about the Firmware version starting again at 1.00? I got this email from Westinghouse support, and they say that 1.19 is the latest version. My firware version says 1.00, and i havent had the power lockup issue, but i cant tell if this is the latest version or not. Thank you for your inquiry. The latest units are shipping with firmware 1.19. We do not offer firmware updates, there is no way for a consumer to update their own firmware.

I just bought mine on 9/24. Power up doesn't seem to be a problem, however, when on a high def channel there are white bars all along the top of the picture. Anyone else seen this?

I'm hoping to pick up one of these sets in the next few weeks. Is the firmware revision printed on the box ID tag somewhere, or is it something you can only determine after you take the unit home and set it up?

I was looking for a thread about remote codes for this unit and ran across this firmware discussion. I just got my lvm 42w2 last week, it has firmware 1.00 dated 9/27/06 but I haven't seen a lockup problem so far. Should I be concerned I don't have 1.19? Also, on 1080i on an HD channel, I see black empty space on the left and right of about 4" each....why? And, anybody know the remote codes? Otherwise, IT'S AN AWESOME SET AND PICTURE!!!

Hi All, I got mine yesterday, Oct 20 2006. My firmware says 1.00. It is dated June 27, 2006. I have not seen any power problems yet. The set was $1549 plus $85.74 shipping. I ordered through Amazon.com and the dealer ended up as JR.com. I have seen a single pixel yellow bar on the left side and a single pixel black and white fluttering bar at the top of the image in standard mode on some sources. The black and white bar gets shoved out of view by switching from standard to fill. The images degrads ever so slightly when doing that. This is a great set for the price. I had a Samsung LN-S4695D from Circuit city that I took back. The HD image on it was good but regular TV and Cable was horrible. I think the Westinghouse picture is very close to the quality of the Samsung in VD and crushes the Samsung with lower definition sources. I have a Samsung SIRT-451 HDTV tuner I got off ebay. It is a great addition with this set. I had the Dish Network installed with 2 HD and one regular receiver yesterday. They showed up while I was unpacking the LVM-42W2. I got this set because I have a refurbished LTV-32W1 that I got from ecost for $599 plus shipping. I still think it has a better picture than the LVM-42W2, but the 32 inch screen was a little small for my family room. I put the 32 inch on the wall in the kitchen. It looks great there.

info on the new firmware version 1.00 is all over the place. So far it seems to have fixed the 1080p issues, but only because of the manufacturing process and not the firmware itself. There is a fundamental problem with the HDMI chipset in the pre 1.00 units (1.11, 1.16, and some 1.19's) That cause sparkles in 1080p and handshake with other 1080p CE devices. This is pretty disturbing and i'd like to test this out myself when I get my ps3.
