5 Star Review Outstanding Commercial Display

Strengths:

Its low cost! The ability to add inputs via expansion cards makes it almost perfect for any situation. It looks beautiful and renders a beautiful picture with deep blacks and wonderful contrast.

Weaknesses:

Does not come with any expansion boards to get you started.

Posted Apr 17, 2007 - The PDP-425CMX is marketed by pioneer as a "monitor", but it can be used as a television. It comes standard with 1 VGA and 1 DVI input and that’s it. To get additional inputs you must purchase an expansion board which easily slides into a slot at the bottom of the set. I think this is one of the sets strong points, if your setup requires multiple HDMI inputs you can purchase a card geared towards that setup (such as the key digital), if you need one with component, composite or some other combination that is available as well. This ability lends to some future proofing as new cards can be released to take advantage of new input standards or revisions. My only gripe is the lack of ATSC solution so I had to use an old DIRECTV receiver to get my local OTA HD channels. The 425CMX is a commercial grade plasma but that does not mean it lacks anything in the looks department. I love the minimalist, clean lines of the set and its charcoal, almost black color matches my AV furniture nicely. It has all the mounting holes in the back that regular plasmas do, so it can be wall mounted or placed on a table using the supplied feet or separate stand. Where the display really shines is its greater ability over consumer plasmas, to control, set and adjust your picture. This is done via the regular menu and the powerful Integrator menu. The picture output of this plasma is OUTSTANDING. I knew I made the right decision the first time I saw the opening sequence of Serenity (HD DVD version). The price, features and picture output of this display makes it a no brainer when choosing a new plasma. If your not convinced check out what the serious hobbyist have to say about it in the plasma displays section on the avsforum.com forum.

4 Star Review Beautiful Set

Strengths:

Made To Last

Weaknesses:

No Speakers

Posted Sep 6, 2006 - Ive done my research on just about every site imaginable. I wanted a set that i knew would produce good colors and a vivid picture. I spoke to the manufacturers before buying to see if they had any user feedback as to what it might lack and i must say they were not much help at all. I decided to move forward after speaking to a rep at RapidPlasma.com They had alot of info about the set (that i couldnt find on other websites or even with the manufacturer) and helped me with my decision. It arrived soon after i ordered it and i couldnt be happier. The picture is just what i expected vivid and bright. I must share with you that i think this is one the smartest buying decisions i ever made.

Strengths:

Highly recommended by many people .... even purchased by the sales person due to the high quality pic and quality workmanship.

Weaknesses:

no tv tuner built in.... but with a cable box it can pick up tv reception

Posted Dec 19, 2006 - When i first plugged into my dvd , i almost fell backwards in awe at the darker than dark areas and sharpness of the picture. It is by far the best monitor i have ever owned and would highly recomend it to all my friends!
