2 x HDMI - MPN: LNS4092DXXAA
Strengths: Good quality and reasonably priced
Weakness: None so far
I was considering buying the Sony XBR or the Samsung. Multiple salespeople from different stores recommended the Samsung. Even though I haven't gotten the HD cable box yet, the quality of the tv is already much better compared to my old tv. Very happy so far!

TopStrengths: Easy set up and cabling, great picture, wide selection of inputs, great sound; super price for a 40" LCD.
Weakness: Having two DVDs (one recorder,) I could have used a 2nd component input jack set. Manual just a rehash of the onscreen menus.
After much research and considering other technologies for nearly a year, I settled on this awesome 40" LCD Samsung - LN-S4092D. If I'd had a larger space I probably would have gone with the 46" model (LN-S4692D) for about $400 more - both have the same great specs and picture. Plasma lost out because of the weight - most weigh 100lbs+ for a 42" model (this one weighs in at 60#.) And DLP and other projection models were just too bulky overall.
This model, and the newer series Samsungs (LN-S4x96D), have the flat cold-cathode backlights with an estimated 60,000 hour life. The colors produced are absolutely stunning. The factory brightness setting is way too much, at 80. I had to reduce it considerably to 55 or so, to produce a suitable picture. And the contrast required some reduction, as well. Overall the adjustment range is large and permits you to set up the picture for each input in use. The audio has an auto-level feature so you're not blasted out of your seat when you switch channels or inputs. This set is not lacking for features - I'm sure that I've overlooked some that I'll find in the future.
Other LCD brands considered were the Sony, Olevia and LG. However, comparing them at a local Circuit City quickly resolved that dilemma. The Olevia was nice but the front glass is just too shiny. The Sony picture wasn't as stunning as the Samsung and the LG were no-where in the running. And all displayed the same content, so it was easy to compare them, even if they weren't side-by-side. The Samsung looks better, too; at least in my opinion.
The initial setup and cabling was easy and simple following the included Quick Start guide. Standard cable channels display well, but slightly stretched in the 16:9 mode. The 4:3 mode is available but Samsung doesn't recommend it for lengthy viewing because of the black sidebars. I use the Zoom1 mode for watching widescreen or letterbox productions. This fills the screen without the stretching of the 16:9 mode. . . but you lose the sides of the picture and a bit of the bottom. Once I got used to that, however, I won't use the 4:3 mode with black bars at the top and bottom. I haven't found a use for the Zoom2 mode yet. . .
The input selection is great with 2 HDMI, 1 component, 2 AV + S-video, cable and off-the-air antenna. It features a TOSlink optical audio output, and earphone output, too. I wish that it had two or more component inputs since I have a DVD player as well as a DVD Recorder. Maybe I should just invest in a player with upconversion and HDMI output.
Hooking up the HDMI input to a satellite HD receiver brought up an absolutely gorgeous HD picture. Our first HD program watched was on Discovery HD - a program on the Bismarck sinking and location underwater with submersibles. Just stunning photography and an interesting documentary, too. I kept looking to the corners to see if the picture sharpness dropped any; typical on a tube-type set. Nope - nothing but edge-to-edge sharpness!
The SRS audio quality is top-notch, but I keep my AV receiver hooked up to the optical output of the satellite system and use that for movies and such.
Did I mention that it comes with a 1 year warranty that can be extended 3 months if you register it on-line

What is the best picture settings when viewing DVD movie.
What is the best picture setting when viewing HD Source.
I am looking forward to your answers.
Thanks
Where did you purchase this model at that price
Strengths: Very bright-great contrast, good saturated colors, few digital processing artifacts, excellent PC monitor resolution
Weakness: Detail in dark regions a little absent - made up by increasing picture brightness setting
You can not trust any of the HDTV setups in any of the stores to compare the tvs against one another. The only way I've found to make a true comparison is to do the following:
I took my laptop (vga connection, 1366 x760 display setting 1080i,720p content) to Circuit City and hooked it up to the samsung 4092, 4051, sony xbr,s2000 to compare them all . No comparison, the samsung 4092d definitely had a more detailed, brighter/higher contrast picture than all the others - even compared to some of the plasmas I tested against (samsung, sony, phillips, sylvania). My test also definitively showed the finer resolution this tv displays over the plasmas tested (some material from here www.skytimelapse.com/hidef.html)
The goal of this test was to show the performance of the panel itself without the tuner. If the panel performs well, and the built in tuner does not, you can always get an external tuner. That said, I'm able to pick up HDTV OTA broadcasting around the boston area (with an antenna) and the picture is very good with low digital processing artifacts. In fact, the picture is so good, that it routinely shows the flaws of the signal being presented to it (e.g. the broadcast material may have used inferior cameras, lower contrast, etc.) It is as if your listening to a 1920 recording on a cd- The cd reproduces nearly exactly all the problems of the original recording.
As a second test, I was lucky enough to have both the samsung 408d and the samsung 4092 in my house for a couple of hours. The 408d had about as much detail as the 4092, but the 4092 had nearly twice the brightness and contrast (truly no comparison).
All in all, I believe the LNS-4092d is the best value in LCD TVs I've seen (including Olevia, Westinghouse, Phillips, Sony, LG, Sylvania) under $3500. The only lcd that I've seen that is better (a little brighter/contrast) is the Sony 46" XBR - at a cost of ~$3800 - a full $1550 more than I paid ($2250).

TopWhere did you purchase 4 this price??
THx!
I bought it at circuit city when it was on sale for $2500 with a 10% off coupon too!
Strengths: Color, Brihtness,Remote, light weight
Weakness: Yet to find one
After lot of research i decided to buy this TV. Samsung and SONY are the best LCD TVs in market and the reason i choose Samsung over SONY is
1. Samsung and SONY share the same plant to manufacture LCD
2. Samsung has better price
3. I like the dark black color vs the gray of SONY
Do not go for DLP, as they take awful long time (approx 30 secs) to display the picture once you switch on, as the bulb has to warm up. Also, you loose clarity and brightness pretty fast as you move little in the side and not facing the TV straight.
I considered PLASMA, but these days the price of LCD and Plasma are so close, i choose LCD. There are basic disadvantages of Plasma as they loose brightness every single day. Even if they claim the half life as 25 years, yet the fact is that the brightness diminishes every second and it will become half in 25 years with 4 hours of average viewing.
This model is awesome compared to others as it has the rectangle shape and not like the monitor shape that some other samsung has.

TopStrengths: Outstanding picture. Color and clarity are exceptional. Wide range of features, great viewing angle, fully compatible and expandable.
Weakness: None found so far.
I purchased this TV about two months ago and have been nothing but thrilled. It looks great for movies, games, and sporting events. It is a sharp looking TV and the swivel feature enables you to view it from anywhere in the room.

TopStrengths: Excellent picture,sharp image,great price.
Weakness: Takes a little time to switch on, apart from that none so far!
I bought this TV a month back and have enjoyed it since then. I compared all the other models in various stores, then decided on this one. I think this has been a very good decision. I hooked it up with Pioneer receiver and speakers and the output is very good. I don't miss going to the movies now.
The remote a not so handy but works out well if u have a universal remote.Setting up was very easy.
This is the best for this price.

TopStrengths: Design, brightness, color, function
Weakness: Nothing found so far
I searched web for almost 3weeks, and I made decision to buy this model. I was considered with this one and LN-S4051D 40" LCD TV which has wine glass design. I stoped by best buy and checked both the designs. Definately, 4092D was better than 4051D. Also, 40" is perfect size for watching movie and cable. Don't try to buy 32" or 37". You will regret!!
Only one weekness is price. This one is a little bit more expensive than smaller ones, but I am not regreting that I paid $200 more to buy this because of efficient size and design. Samsung TV is absolutely better than others such as SONY, SHARP etc. Especially, I don't like SONY design and color anymore. Again! you will be satisfied with this one because of brightness and perfect design!!!

I purchased the LN-s4092d thru the internet. I had never purchased such a big ticket item thru the mail and was somewhat worried.
So far everything has been a breeze. Delivery was prompt and the tv was easy to set up. So far everything has been good as the picture on the Samsung is great and the manuel is pretty easy to follow.
There are lots of features on the tv that I have not explored yet but so far...So Good!

TopStrengths: easiest setup, I bought 2 HDMI devices (satellite and DVD)and everything was fairly easy to follow.
Weakness: I would like to see this in different colors but other than that, no problems
I purchased 2 HDMI devies that were easily integrated into this TV. The surround sound was just a bit less than my Yamaha system. I have Dish Network and the setup was flawless

TopStrengths: Rich Colors, 2-HDMI Inputs, Looks
Weakness: None so far
Just purchased from CCity, went with them because of 30 day return policy, not that I expect to need it. Watching Monday night football in High Def (using Time Warner Hi Def Cable Box) is awesome!!! Great TV for the price, PS2 looks good via component hook up, can't wait until PS3 comes out. Compared to the new Sharp 42" model (1080P), like the rich colors of the Samsung better. Very Happy so far, looking forward to many years of Hi Def enjoyment from this set.

TopStrengths: Great Picture, wide variety of inputs, easy setup.
Weakness: None so far.
After shopping around for 37 to 42" HDTV's for more than a month and reading every possible review, I bought the Samsung LN-S4092D. While shopping, I could not tell the difference between the 1080p and the 720p pictures and this was confirmed by other testers. This HDTV just knocked by socks off with a great picture that was bright and extremely detailed. Second, I wanted 2 HDMI inputs to cover the up-convert DVD player and HD cable box I had. With the component and PC inputs, I can also attach the Xbox and PC that I have. Picture quality is great from every source, but I think the HDMI input give the best picture.
The TV was delivered very well packaged. It was easy to unbox and setup was done in 15 minutes. I left all settings at factory default and just plugged in my inputs. So far, I have not found anything that I need to "tweak."
This is my second HDTV and I am amazed how much better the picture quality has become in the two years since I bought my earlier DLP TV. This TV uses fluorescent back-lighting and I do not expect to need any servicing over the life of the TV. Nonetheless, register your TV on the Samsung website and extend the warranty from 12 to 15 months.

TopStrengths: beautiful picture, lightweight, ease of use, nice remote.great contrast sharp picture
Weakness: none found yet
I would buy this again if it got stolen.great tv.wouldn't even consider another manufacturer. after receiving tv it was up and running in 10 min. I have regular directv and need to upgrade to hdtv. The dvd player shows truer picture quality that is available. It still has a better picture than my sony 32 that this replaced. But in hi-def this will look outstanding.

Love my new TV
Strengths: picture, style, manual, features!!
Weakness: none that I have found so far
I did quite a bit of research including Consumer Reports, consumer posts online and other publications. This TV always seemed to come out near the top and since it is priced better than the Sony, I decided on it. I've had it 3 days, connected to HD cable, and I love it. The picture is drop-dead gorgeous. The set up was easy. I thought I might need to tweak the adjustments to get the picture I wanted, but I didn't at all. The initial settings have yielded the best success. The energy saver feature - which lowers brightness at night viewing, etc - is terrific. This is a great TV. The manual is easy to understand too.
