5 Star Review Excellent HDTV set & with a price tag that will keep you smiling. Its an amazing set.

Strengths:

Looks, HDMI inputs, Cable Card & SD Card inputs, Sound (for a TV...its pretty good), Price, and then there is the Picture Quality - which in my opinion is unmatched by any other TVs

Weaknesses:

None so far

Posted Feb 19, 2007 - So the TV has great looks and the black panel on the frame makes it look simply stunning. The sound is great and so are the multiple inputs provide. It also has a cable card and an SD card slot - which is nice plus. However an HDTV should really be all about the picture and that’s why you should really buy this one. So here is the deal - I spent nearly 8 months researching several HDTVs...essentially only Plasma technology...and to cut the long story short the Panasonic TH-PX600U TVs are simply the best on the market right now. I was looking to get a 42" and I don’t thing there is a better one out there than the 42-THPX600U. There are 2 basic things I considered...how does it perform on HDTV signal and then on Standard Def...since most of the channels these days are still standard def. The Panasonic 600U's performance is stellar on both counts... HDTV looks so lifelike that you could be forgiven for walking into the screen. It is so lifelike and the colors, picture, definition is so good that I cannot write it in words and do justice. You really have to see it to believe it. I compared the TV side by side to several others (@ Magnolia…which carries the more premium end TVs) and the only TV that matched the Panasonic in terms of picture quality was the Pioneer PDP and that was nearly $1000 bucks more expensive. The blacks on the Panasonic are simply unmatched. On the Standard Def...the biggest problem with most HDTV’s is that the picture looks terrible. No sir not with the Panasonic..the picture was amongst the best if not "the best" standard def picture on a HDTV plasma set that I have seen. The picture still looked great! The Price that it comes at makes it simply a no brainer. I ordered mine online and paid $1300+ for this set...and $ for $ - I don’t think there exists a better plasma set out there.

5 Star Review Th-42px600u

Strengths:

picture quality, sound

Weaknesses:

some glare as all plasmas

Posted Feb 11, 2007 - This is a great plasma tv. The color quality is terrific and as good as the Fujitsu which is twice the price. As with all plasmas the picture will get glare off of the set if there is a lot of light in the room. Having the cable card slot is great so that you can get all of the HD stations without the box. I would recommend this set.

5 Star Review As Promised...

Strengths:

Great picture, better than expected sound

Weaknesses:

None so far

Posted Nov 30, 2006 - Bought this TV for my low light rec room. Picture is incredible....can't believe how much better it is than the comparable Panasonic ED model that I got a couple of years ago. Looked at the new Samsung 1080p DLP, but didn't like the viewing angle issue...and regardless think that the picture on the Panasonic plasma is much better and crisper anyway. Very easy to set up too... Couldn't be happier.

4 Star Review Panasonic TH42PX600U Plasma TV

Strengths:

All of the features which I was looking for in a Plasma TV with 7 days a week technical support.

Weaknesses:

N/A

Posted Dec 17, 2006 - Panasonic has a concierge service for new owners of the Panasonic plasma TV. This service was invaluable in setting up the TV with the other non-Panasonic components including a cable/dvr receiver, surround sound receiver and dvd player.

5 Star Review the 42PX600U, an excellent HDTV plasma

Strengths:

Exterior looks, picture quality, extra features over 60U model

Weaknesses:

PIP feature

Posted Aug 29, 2006 - I owned the basic panasonic 42px60U model shortly after it was introduced in April 2006, but returned it to Best Buy (Magnolia) 3 weeks later. I then waited until August of 2006 to buy the 42px600U model at a great price. We did not like the cheaper looking silver finish of the 60U, but also decided to wait for the 600U due to the additional features, which include a cable card slot, upgraded speakers, pc input, and the picture in picture feature. After purchasing the 600U in early August, I upgraded the firmware to the latest version due to minor cable card issues mentioned by other owners on internet forums. We then had the cable card installed by our local cable provider and it works flawlessly. No need for a cable box and our cable bill increased only an additional $1.50 per month. The set looks great with the wider black bezel. The picture quality is near the top in the market. Certainly the best price/performance ratio. Lastly, in order for the picture in picture feature to work correctly, the set needs to have 2 components with tuners connected to the set. In our case the cable card and a DVD recorder serve this function. A VCR and set top box would be another example that would work. The set's PIP feature also will not work if your second tuner or STB is connected thru the rear HDMI input. Hopefully panasonic will address this HDMI input issue in a future firmware upgrade. I'd give this set a 95% approval rating.

5 Star Review great product!!

Strengths:

clear bright picture quality 2 HDMI inputs PC input

Weaknesses:

could have problems with burn in

Posted Dec 5, 2006 - This TV has really great picture quality. I've done quite a lot of research and believe this has the best value. However, you may experience some problems with burn in. I think this is only true for the first 100 hours when the screen is most susceptible. Example: I hooked up my computer to the TV and played a game...Noticed after I switch back to the regular TV mode, I saw some "ghosting" on the screen... Overall....I think this is the best TV for your money...Just have to be careful about how you treat the unit for the first few hundred hours.

5 Star Review Panasonic TH-42PX600U 42 Inch Plasma HDTV

Strengths:

Well packed, easy to attach base and begin watching. Picture in 1080i looks like you can walk into it. Sound from side-mounted speakers is great. TV Guide channel useful to find programming.

Weaknesses:

None found so far.

Posted Dec 12, 2006 - Watched the all-time classic "Wizard of Oz" in 1080i on TNT and picture had unbelievable depth. HDTV received properly from Terk HDTV antenna, as well as from cable. Suggest changing picture settings from preset "Vivid" to "Standard" and adjust to your preferences. To further adjust picture settings without buying a calibration DVD, use THX Optimizer from a DVD such as Disney's "Cars". Like this so much I may put this 42 inch in the bedroom and buy the TH-50PX600U 50 inch model instead for the living room.

4 Star Review Sweet machine!

Strengths:

Seems solid, great picture

Weaknesses:

Worried 'bout them fans

Posted Dec 27, 2006 - Well, buyer beware all the hurdles you will have to avoid when ordering mail order. Extra warranties, extra wires, extra surge protectors, upgraded shipping, it goes on and on. If you can get through all that nonsense, you will be rewarded with a great set. Actually, my first criteria when shopping was I wanted the SD camera card input. This brought me to Panasonic, and I don't know if any others have it!

5 Star Review Exceptional TV

Strengths:

Excellent HD picture. TV guide is very useful after installing cablecard. Slick look. Perfect Size. Great so far for the football season. Sound exceeded my expectations.

Weaknesses:

No PIP. I have a Philips DVD that I am running component cable to TV, I think the DVD needs to be replaced because the colors are not what I want after seeing HD.

Posted Oct 6, 2006 - Exceptional TV for the money. I purchased a SONY SXRD 50" and returned it. The TV was too big and I did not like the look for my room. The 42" is perfect size (by the way I sit 11 feet from tv). The look is awesome and the picture on local and HD is great. Very satisfied for the price I paid. I had cablecard installed, which I think made the picture even better. Now I have only one remote, can change channels on the TV and programmed my DVD player. Very satisfied thus far. Next is the audio.

5 Star Review Panasonic Plasma TH-42PX600U 42

Strengths:

Great TV for the money. Good resolution and brightness. In addition to that Panasonic has a good reputation.

Weaknesses:

Have not found any yet.

Posted Oct 13, 2006 - The TV is great. The best that that amount of money can buy! I have found it easy enough to install myself. I have not found any weaknesses. My wife and kids love the TV and I love that I saved a bunch of money buying it on the internet. When you want to buy a plasma I recommend to go to a few local stores and find what you want and then buy it on the internet.

5 Star Review Excellent TV

Strengths:

Great picture, easy to set up, compact pedistal vs 60U

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Dec 19, 2006 - After more than a year of research we decided that this was the model. The HDTV picture is crystal clear, plenty of inputs accommodates anything we can think of and ease of switching inputs is great. 720p and 480p(DVDs) also look great. Standard Def is also very good since I bet Standard Def will still be most of your TV viewing The speakers are great and unless you want a 5.1 system fit the bill. One point to keep in mind if you are setting this up on the included pedestal it is a two person job!! Also don't forget to attach the included anti-tip straps to the TV and whatever you are placing it.

4 Star Review Panasonic TH42PX600U

Strengths:

The best looking plasma in their line of 42" Plasma TV's. Picture is Great.

Weaknesses:

Panasonic Technical Support.

Posted Sep 30, 2006 - I love the TV - the picture is amazing. I am not sure if I can recognize the 29 Billion Colors? The picture looks just as good as any other Hi Definition set. The menu is easy to navigate. The TV Guide feature does not seem to work properly - or actually recognize my cable's analog lineup. The HD Tuner is pretty cool - I actually get a couple HD Stations - PBS without the cable box. It took the Panasonic Technical support a long time to walk me through the connections to my home theater unit - which was defective - right when I took it out of the box. See my review for the Panasonic SC-HT830V Home Theater system for more details. Overall - I am happy with the TV - its probably the best that is out there right now. I figure it will last with the extended warranty - which was thrown in - by the corporate office because of the usually long wait time to receive this unit. It took me forever to get this TV - I originally purchased the 42px500U back in November - but Panasonic apparently did not anticipate demand - so I had to wait from original purchase date in November 2005 til June 2006 to get my TV.

5 Star Review Questions Re: the 42PX600U

Strengths:

N/A

Weaknesses:

Posted Oct 29, 2006 - We are looking to purchase a 42" HD Plasma TV, seriously looking at this TV. Read a review on a Samsung re: burn problem after 2 1/2 - 3 hrs. of TV being on. What is it and is it a permanent situation? This is a major concern with all day football. Is this a problem with the Panasonic, just Samsung or all HD TVs? You mention a cable card or box, not applicable in our case. From LA and since Katrina we are Direct TV. Does anyone know of the picture quality with Direct TV and connections to a regular DVD or what would be needed. Thank you for any input.

4 Star Review Antenna Plug

Strengths:

Great picture and sound. Easy to read and follow set up instructions.

Weaknesses:

Could not find any way to hook up my wirerless head phones.

Posted Aug 16, 2006 - The only problem that I had was when I tried to move the TV, I snapped off the antenna plug right at the base & now am waiting for a repair man to tell me how it can be fixed. I could not believe how easy it snapped off with very little pressure from the cable. Now I don't know if I will need a new tuner or if it can be soldiered together. It was only 2 days old.
