Samsung's sleek 40" LCD leads the industry in realistic home entertainment. 5 Star Review My Samsung 4095d

Strengths:

The picture is great! Very Easy Set-Up! 2 HDMI inputs which is a bonus! Swivel Stand is great!!

Weaknesses:

A little slow on the Menu Responce

Posted Dec 15, 2006 - I have had this TV for about 1 month now. It is a major upgrade from the TV I used to have. So far the TV has been working excellently. The TV is hooked up to my Dishnetwork digital receiver with just the cable going from the box to the TV and the picture looks great!! Its not HD of course, but the picture looks fine. It just has awesome colors. I just cant wait to get my HD receiver in a few weeks from Dish so I can finally see this TVs real HD features!!! Oh did I mention DishNetwork offers about 28 HD channels. For some reason I have read lots of reviews about the bad sound on these TV's. Well from my experience the sound is great!! I do have a home theatre system and Im talking about the sound with theatre system off. Lets just say I can be in the back of my house and still here the TV and that's when its at normal volume. The glossy finish for me is no problem!! The remote control is a Universal Remote and also easy to use. Heck maybe I just got lucky and got a TV with no problems, because things I have read in other reviews I haven't experienced any of them. No vertical line problems, no cloudy picture, no sound problems, nothing. One real minor thing is that it has a slow menu responce, but shoot that's fine!! The swivel base is awesome!! Here is a buying tip. I was going to get this TV from an online retailer, and there are many, but I was hesitant to do so since it seems like all these stores are from back East and I'm in CA. I was afraid of receiving it broke. These TV's are very delicate items. If you saw how heavy some are and the boxes they come in you will see what Im talking about. If you read the policies from these online retailers/warehouses that sell these TV's it seemed like 99.99% of them do not take back TV's 20" of higher. No matter what. You got to be careful. So with that in mind I bought this TV from my local Best Buy for $1,899.99 They priced matched Circuit City price and some which was $1,985.99 So dont be scared to ask them to price match, they will if it is reasonable. And trust me they will also match online stores like Amazon and Crutchfield. Remember it just has to be a reasonable price. Also dont forget if you get from a B.B. or a C.C. you can return it if anything happens to it in the first 30 days. You also dont have to worry about it receiving it damaged or broke. Out the door I payed $2,295...thats with taxes and a 4 year ex-warranty. Another tip I will pass along is that when I registered my TV on the Samsung web site, just for registering it Samsung extended my Manufactures warranty for another 3 months. So instead of a 12 month/1 Year warrant, I got a 15 month warranty. No bad at all!!!! I hope this review helps you out!!!!

5 Star Review Excellent True HDTV

Strengths:

* Great clear and bright picture * Smooth video * Easy menus and remote * Excellent over-the-air HDTV reception from built-in ATSC receiver with a decent antenna * Picture in Picture

Weaknesses:

* TV speakers are weak, but there's a digital audio out--this display deserves a good surround system anyway!

Posted Dec 19, 2006 - This is my first HDTV, but I shopped around for months. Full 1080p resolution was important to me, as was smooth motion and a high contrast ratio. This TV blows away the lower-res HDTVs for sale in the big box stores. DVD upscaling looks fantastic (I have tested with Matrix Revolutions, Star Wars III, and Cars, and all look great!). My wife and I like the glossy black frame, but you should know that the screen itself does a great job not reflecting light (ours is across from windows and still looks great). What I am most amazed by is how eazy it was to set up all of my local channels. I was surprised to discover around 22 English DTV channels at my home in Fort Worth, Texas. I sprung for a $40 Phillips powered indoor/outdoor antenna rated for HDTV, ran the auto channel setup, and it "discovered" all of those DTV broadcasts (which is almost 3 times the analog channels I was able to pick up with my old TV). This TV auto adjusts for broadcasts' resolution and aspect ratio. For instance, many DTV stations broadcast most content in 480i with 4:3 aspect and later show primetime shows in 1080i with 16:9 aspect. The Samsung HDTV auto adjusted my picture so that I wouldn't have a wide fat picture for SDTV shows. For the one channel that didn't show correctly, I simply pressed "P Size" on the remote and it changed the aspect ratio. Easy! For the two local UHF channels that don't broadcast digitally, the picture is still pretty good with my antenna. Other reviewers have said there's no picture in picture--it turns out it works fine but has to be set up in the menu. It confused me by saying "unavailable" until I played with the menu more. I'm literally blown away by this TV. I made the right purchase and would definitely recommend it.

5 Star Review Beautiful 1080p monitor

Strengths:

Flawless presentation - gloss black narrow border, hidden speakers, easy connections using HDMI connectors

Weaknesses:

I was going to get the Samsung 4096D with the cable ready card, but heard using the card had limitations as to getting full use of my cable programming - so this serves me just fine.

Posted Aug 9, 2006 - Frankly, this is the most together looking product I've seen in the 1080p TV's - can't wait till the 1080p becomes the new standard - I'll be ready. Cabling was simple using HDMI connections to my DVD/Stereo Receiver. Contrast at 6000:1 does make a difference - a friend of mine has a year old Samsung and it's remarkable to note the real high definition in this product. I wish I had something negative to say, but if you have the money to get it - do it...

5 Star Review Amazing

Strengths:

Stunning color, on-screen controlls are well layed out, swivel stand comes in very handy, most-used features have dedicated buttons on the remote (very usefull!)

Weaknesses:

Really brings out the flaws in standard definition broadcast. Reds are 'almost' too red (took some getting used to). Audio good for TV watching, but doesn't cut it during movies.

Posted Oct 3, 2006 - This is an amazing television. I'm mesmerized by the HD broadcasts (especially Discovery HD). The controls built into the TV truly are 'smart.' The set took no time at all to configure out of the box (took longer to figure out how to get my DVD player into progressive mode). Speaking of DVDs, I'm blown away by how much better they look on this set. I upgrade from a Sony WEGA 32" CRT. What a difference. It's so nice not to have black bars on the top and bottom while watching a movie. And, I notice new details in the footage that I never saw before on the old CRT. The TV is a bit less enjoyable to watch standard definition broadcasts than my old WEGA, especially if you use one of the alternate picture modes to stretch or zoom the image to fill the window. The poor broadcast resolution is very apparent, although acceptable if viewing from across the room. The color was almost too intense during the first day or two of viewing. Reds were the most noticeably vibrant. It’s been a few weeks now, and my eyes are calibrated to it. And, the TV does have several preset color modes to choose from, as well as a fully customizable user mode. The built in speakers sound great during normal TV viewing. But, you’ll definitely want to use external amplified speakers during movie watching to bring the audio quality up to the same level as this TVs image quality. The internal speakers don’t have the range and volume necessary for movie viewing. I love the remote! It has dedicated buttons for changing the picture mode, sound mode, picture size, and other frequently used feature. This prevents you from having to enter the on-screen menu to change the option. If you do use the on-screen menu, it’s amazingly well laid out, and easy to navigate. Nothing is cryptic or ambiguous. I’ve browsed through the user’s manual out of curiosity. But, everything about this set is so intuitive, a manual isn’t necessary. I considered the S4096D, primarily because of the IEEE1394 interconnectivity between devices. But, decided against it since none of my existing components support the feature, and I have no plans to upgrade soon. You'll love the S4095D.

5 Star Review Great Picture...

Strengths:

Great picture, love the piano black case and swivel base, lots of inputs...

Weaknesses:

Not a lot of 1080p sources yet

Posted Aug 2, 2006 - I was torn between this and the 1080i S4092D version... I'm glad I opted for the 1080p just because I'm looking forward to seeing this awesome picture with Blue-ray discs (which I've seen down at my local Samsung dealer) ... but I'm not ready to pull the trigger on a player just yet. Otherwise I couldn't be happier with this screen.

1 Star Review Very Bad Customer Service from Samsung

Strengths:

Looked great when it worked

Weaknesses:

Samsung has no concern about Customer Service

Posted Sep 21, 2006 - I bought a LNS-4095D on September 1, 2006. The TV stopped working 3 days later. Samsung immediately sent out a repair person who said it would be exchanged. That was over two weeks ago. Since then I have called Samsung several times and each time they tell me the problem with the paperwork for the replacement had been fixed. Then I would call back in a few days and it still did not show that they were exchanging the TV. I talked to a Customer Service Supervisor named “James” who basically acted like he was doing me a favor and NEVER even apologized for them making so many mistakes. Samsung had even called me to ask me how the TV was working since it got repaired and I had to be the one to tell them AGAIN that the TV was not fixed. “James” (would not give last name) had an attitude and refused to transfer me so I could speak to someone higher than him. I asked him if he was accountable to anyone else and he said NO. “James” said that his supervisor did not take calls from customers. I even sent the information on their website in their contact form and still no one responded to my request to have someone call me. I was told that it would be at first 2 to 3 more weeks before they would send a replacement and then it changed to 3 to 4 weeks. So that means that it might take a total of a month and half to 2 months to get a replacement TV. “James” did not care one bit that it was unfair to punish me for their mistake and had a very defensive attitude. He finally said that he would try to expedite the exchange but would not promise anything. He said that like he was doing me some big favor. I guess he can treat customers like that since he is not accountable to anyone. I get that things sometimes break but to be treated like this is not right. I made one mistake and that was buying a Samsung. They have demonstrated that they do not care about treating the customer fairly.

5 Star Review Excellent Picture Better Than Sony

Strengths:

Superior picture in low and high resolutions. Excellent input and output controls.

Weaknesses:

Glossy black frame finish reflects light.

Posted Nov 4, 2006 - The best picture I've seen in the 40 and 46-inch category. Superior image in lower and higher resolutions compared to the Sony Brav. Get the extended warranty for next-day replacement service for 4 years, since you won't be needing another LCD for that time frame at least. Without the warranty, you'll spend more for slower service is something fails.

Weaknesses:

Posted Sep 20, 2006 - Just purchased from Best Buy for almost $2100.00. Easy installation. I hooked it to a DirectTV HD receiver and called DirectTV to upgrade the service. 30 minutes later, I was watching Discovery HD. Very lifelike picture

I looked at different sites and there nothing compare to this one.

5 Star Review A Great Investment

Strengths:

1080p picture, 2 HDMI inputs, built-in HDTV tuner, VGA input

Weaknesses:

Slow to bring up menu, sound from TV speakers weaker than expected, cannot get Dolby Digital sound from unit

Posted Jan 10, 2007 - I was going to originally purchase the highly rated Sharp Aquos LC-32D40, but settled on this Samsung after viewing it in store @ BB. What won me over was the support for 1080p. Pricier than the Westinghouse model, I am happy overall with my purchase. Like fellow reviewers have mention, a 5.1 receiver is needed for maximum sound. As for the Dolby Digital problem, since the TV has the logo, I assumed that the TV would output DD by means of the optical output. Besides those small problems, I would highly recommend this product.

4 Star Review Incredible picture, not great sound

Strengths:

The best 1080p picture I have seen

Weaknesses:

sound bites, get surround sound

Posted Dec 27, 2006 - After getting this TV, I immeditate went out and got an HD cable box. I am so glad I did because going from analog component cable to HD cable, I was blown away. Even thought there are only 12-15 channels, they are the ones that need HD (ESPN, ABC, NBC, CBS) Discovery, although not a regular watched channel, looks like your right next to the camera man. If you don't have HD cable, hit yourself silly and go get it! I haven't tried the upconverting DVD, but I will soon. The only bad I have seen so far is the sound bites. It isn't very clear so go get surround sound. Also, when I had it on ABC HD channel, the screen had a little popping sound but went away after I changed the channel and hasn't come back.

3 Star Review I was not disappointed...

Strengths:

Picture quality is excellent, much easier setup comparing to Sharp

Weaknesses:

sound qualtiy can be improved

Posted Nov 17, 2006 - Removing the stand can be diffcult if one tries to do it alone. In term of appearance, I like the recently released Sony XBR3 series better, but Sony does cost little more.

5 Star Review Good tv with some minor issues.

Strengths:

Great picture and easy to navigate menus.

Weaknesses:

The remote is very long which can be annoying sometimes. Picture-in-Picture is deceptive. Slow channel response.

Posted Feb 11, 2007 - I am not a big fan of the remote but it's an easy fix, get a unviersal remote. Along with that, the infrared has to be pretty dead on to communicate with the tv. It can be a little frustrating. Picture-in-Picture only seemed to work when I was using an input besides cable. I could get a cable picture inside one of the composites. If you are a big channel surfer than you are going to need patience. The tv seems to take a good bit of time to change channels. Overall, I am very pleased with the tv. Not a lot of 1080p televisions on the market and this one is a great deal. I was lucky enough to get BestBuy to match an online deal and I got it for $1675 before tax.
