If you want a 52" flat-panel HDTV with 1080p resolution, Sharp's 52" LC-52D62U delivers the goods for thousands less than competing models. The high-performance LC-52D62U is built in Sharp's 8th-generation factory, which produces large LCD screens with extraordinary precision. This TV combines full 1080p picture resolution with impressive contrast and black levels and the industry's quickest response time. Images are pinpoint sharp with smooth, smear-free motion - it gives meaning to the term "picture window." minimize

1 Star Review disappointment

Strengths:

big, great picture when it works

Weaknesses:

banding, clouding, inoperability

Posted May 4, 2007 - We bought this TV in February. Intermittent problems with banding, freezing, clouding, and programming. We changed the cable box first, but that did not help. Once, it would not even turn off. We are returning this set tomorrow and are trying to decide what to purchase next.

When we want to read about the Sony I will go to the Sony reviews. I would like to read reviews about the Sharp LCD T.V in these reviews.

2 Star Review Returned for the Sony

Strengths:

Price was good, and the styling was good as well.

Weaknesses:

Picture wasn't up to par with my smaller Sony in my Bedroom. High Def looked good but the Sony did a better job with DVD and Cable playback, plus the color performance was better all around.

Posted Jan 14, 2007 - Make sure you do some good comparisons in the store, especially with the blacks, I saw more detail in the dark areas on the 52"XBR that I Eventually purchased.

2 Star Review Sharp LC-52D62U LCD TV

Strengths:

Price

Weaknesses:

Very poor colors. Appear washed out, even after multiple attempts at color managment.

Posted Dec 10, 2006 - Comparing the colors to my other TV, a SONY XBR LCD TV, the SHARP is very poor. I wish I had spent the extra money on the 52" SONY XBR3 LCD TV.

5 Star Review GREAT PRICE AND A GREAT TV

Strengths:

everything

Weaknesses:

no computer input but HDMI conversion of DVI does the job just fine

Posted May 5, 2007 - Bought this at Best buy several months ago on a lemon exchange which was a Westinghouse. No bars, no streaks, no runs, no errors, just a great picture and a quality product. Hooked it up with a HDMI/DVI conversion cable and did a full 1080P computer picture without a hitch.

5 Star Review Best TV I've ever seen

Strengths:

Great screen Beautiful mounting great resolution

Weaknesses:

can't use as center speaker not enough inputs

Posted Apr 1, 2007 - I am still bowled over by how this looks, both turned on and turned off. It's just fantasic. The color, picure, etc. are great. None of the infamous "banding" people have goten worked up about. Don't know how good the sound is, particularly, since all my sounds goes out via the home theater system. I wish it had a third HDMI input or an RGB computer input, though.

No PIP, no way to use the TV speakers as a center channel.

4 Star Review First Timer

Strengths:

Great Pic! Wonderful, vivid colors..Even the cat loves it.

Weaknesses:

None...So far.

Posted Aug 16, 2007 - I have been reading a lot about other peoples experience with this brand. I also looked at the sony...side by side did not like it (sony) The next best brand for your money would be the LG HDTV. But to compare screen & size the SHARP AQUOS 52 HDTV is a better Pic & decent Price. Getting the right hook up to get the complete use out of the T.V. was a little frustrating. This is our First LCD HDTV. I wish that the choice in colors varied. I woud have liked a matte silver finish vs. the black finish. But it is a very sleek and elegant TV. Our guests do not realize there is a TV in the room until I turn it on and they our shocked. We have had the TV for 5 weeks and love it. My one regret is that I should have upgraded to a 60" or 65". If you are serious and are ready to purchase compare you room size and remember the The Sharp is about 5 1/2 inches deep and look at a bigger screen.

5 Star Review Aquos means quality.

Strengths:

This tv is a fantastic performer and it's 'future safe'!

Weaknesses:

Factory setting a bit out of whack. Picture looks slightly different when you watch from an angle.

Posted Aug 4, 2007 - I was looking at many different TV's before deciding on this one. I upgraded from a Sony LCD projection TV that was a few years old and the Sharp has a much better picture, especially as far as contrast and black levels. The blacks looked dark-grey on the Sony (the newer models look much better though) and this was the major reason for the upgrade. Black levels on the Sharp are excellent and it shows much more detail than my older TV. The picture is very, very good on this panel with much more detail than what you actually can see from a normal viewing distance. Color reproduction is fantastic and the brightness can be set to very high levels so you can still watch, even in a very bright room. The Sharp has a feature that adjusts the brightness level on the TV per the brightness in the room. This way the Sharp will show a darker picture at night rather than during the day, this is a very handy feature. If you look very close, like 1-2 feet, you can see that each pixel is close to one another and there is not much gap in between them, this proves that the Sharp is a quality product. The picture is 'full'. The Sharp also has a DVI input that accepts PC signals. It's the coolest thing to hook up a PC and set the resolution to 1920x1080. The manual said it wasn't possible, but it still worked! I even managed to connect my fathers camcorder with European PAL signal and the Sharp handled it, a nice surprise since the older Sony couldn't. The resolution is 1920x1080 which is the highest resolution HDTV describes, thus this monitor is 'future safe'. I plan to get a HD DVD or Blueray as soon as the darn format war is over, can't wait. It was no problem buying a refurbished product (less than 2 grand). I was nervous about this but the TV showed up only a few day after I ordered it and it was in impeccable condition. Thank you 2nd act! Overall I'm extremley happy with the Sharp and I can highly recommend it to anyone. Oh, did I mention that the design of the TV rocks! This TV looks very cool. Also, it starts up in only a few seconds.

5 Star Review A good piece of equipment

Strengths:

Good clear picture, deep natural black, vivid sound and easy of operation

Weaknesses:

not enough in and outs

Posted Jun 13, 2007 - The bottom line- this TV set worth each dollar I am sure that nobody will regret for that purchase. The lack of more in and outs will be a serious problem if you don't have AV receiver but actually there are enough connectors for the basic user. Once again don't hesitate.

5 Star Review Should remain top-of-the-line for at least a few years

Strengths:

Picture

Weaknesses:

Casing

Posted Apr 30, 2007 - I started with a 42" Aquos (780p?) last year, and now have this one for another room this year. It's pretty amazing how the pictures have at the same time that prices have dropped. For the quality + price ratio this TV provides, I'm not sure how much better it can get. Be sure to get a 1080p DVD player (I got the Oppo) to take full advantage (note that you need to configure settings on the DVD player to bump it up to 1080p upscaling!). My only complaint is that I am not at all a fan of the "piano black" casing. Shiny black plastic does not at all fit my decor. I really wish this came in a matte silver (or at least a matte black). And kudos to BuyDig.com. They exceeded whatever expectations I had.
