Sharp LC32D43U

Started Feb 27, 2007

Strengths: GOOD LOOKING,WELL CONSTRUCTED, EASY TO SET UP & OUTSTANDING PICTURE AT A VERY RESONABLE PRICE

Weaknesses: NONE SO FAR

After exhaustive research I chose this set and have no regrets whatever. It has exceeded our expectations and indeed made us "happy campers". The picture is quite crisp and clear and it has an extremely navigable remote control. This set has features and built in technology that even a novice can understand and is all well formated in the easy to understand instruction manual. Would highly recommend this set.

How did you distinguish between the LC-32D43U and the LC-32D42U? I'm trying to research the various Sharp TVs but find inconsistencies in the specification headings. It's hard to make a comparison and an informed purchasing decision when specifications don't match up. It's not as bad as apples and oranges, but almost.

It is my understanding that the 43 is a later model with a little more refinement though not noticeable to the average buyer. Also it supposedly has all the bugs worked out (if any existed) in the 42 model. I was told that the 42 is no longer in production but still available through many outlets. Both are good sets that you would undoubtedly be happy with.

After more research I believe that you are correct in that the LC32D43U is the most recent model. I have read reviews that complain that the Sharp LC TVs have problems with "reds". Have you had any problems along those lines?

None so far. I thought I had a problem with the picture but after I figured out I had a satellite receiver and a DVD player hooked up wrong I got things straightened out. We now enjoy the best picture we ever had on any TV including LCD'S

I hate to keep bothering you but it seems that questions keep popping up that I don't know the answers to. Today I went to CompUSA and you are right, it is a great looking, well-constructed TV. I noted that you have a satellite receiver but is it HD or standard? I have a standard Tivo DirecTv receiver and the CompUSA salesperson said I wouldn't get a satisfactory picture if I didn't have an HD DirecTv receiver. Also, he said my reception would be in 4:3 standard TV format and would have sidebars if I used 16:9 format or would be distorted. I can't afford the TV and an HD DirecTv receiver at one time but can't justify buying the TV if my picture is going to be bad. The more I research the more confusing it gets. Since most programming is not HD I can't believe that the picture quality in non-HD content will be worse than it is on my six year old el-cheapo 19" Samsung standard TV. Help!

Bob, you will need an HD receiver (or something thats capable of submitting an HD signal to your TV) if you want an HD picture. If you have a standard cable box, your images will not be HD. You have a standard tivo DirecTV box, so you should be able to hook it up to this TV using S-Video cables to enhance the picture quality (although it still wont be HD). It will look significantly better than using a coax cable. If I were you, I'd go ahead and buy this TV (butterflyphoto.com has it for $754) then save up for an HD receiver. Once you get the HD receiver, you will want an HDMI cable. It provides the best HD picture quality and sound. If not, you can just go ahead and use the component cables (red green and blue cables that come with the HD Receiver). Also. this Sharp Aquos has a built in HD tuner, so you can hook up a regular antenna and get an HD from any of your local channels broadcasting in HD (e.g. your local news, etc).
