5 Star Review Great display but not perfect

Strengths:

Unbelievable image quality, 720p, plenty of inputs, fantastic design, great remote, fine image tuning options, adjustable backlight, VGA input

Weaknesses:

The piano black finish, LCD unit lacks control buttons, SD image quality

Posted Sep 7, 2007 - Let me start off by saying that this was not my first choice when shopping for my 1st HDTV. I was on a tight budget so I was only considering the cheaper budget brands like Olevia and Vizio. But a friend of mine (who owns a 32" Sony Bravia LCD) insisted that I avoid them at all costs and instead look into a name brand LCD. His argument was simple: they're proven technology and if you're going to spend this much on a TV- get something that people have come to trust. So then I started shopping and I could find a good TV around my price range ($600) but saw this Aquos for $790. A bit over my budget but the features were excellent, it had tons of inputs, and above all: I knew that Sharp's Aquos TVs were highly regarded among HDTVs as having some of the best image quality. When I received the unit, I was instantly amazed by the dazzling design. The shiny black piano finish really made it stand out. But, of course, the true star here is the image quality. The default settings are actually pretty good but with a little bit of tuning, they look even better. I actually replayed some of my Xbox 360 (with the VGA cables) because of how mesmerizing everything looked. I also use my Wii with it and the Wii (with component input) games look very nice. The single PS3 game I tried (hooked up with HDMI) was resistance and it's amazing how much of a difference HD makes. I viewed 300 on DVD recently on a 480p DVD player and I was stunned at the visuals. My computer is hooked up to it via HDMI and recorded shows and PC games also look great- it can even function as a regular computer monitor! I've had it since May and I have yet to regret my purchase but it's not fully perfect. I do have a few minor issues with the first. The piano black finish looks great but it attracts dust and fingerprints and is easily scratched if you're not careful. Also, the LCD unit itself only has controls for power, input, channel and volume so if you lose the remote, there's no way to use a lot of the features or get to the menu. The last issue really isn't the TV's fault but stand definition broadcasts are hard to watch after seeing HD. This TV handles them well, better than most other LCDs I've seen. Please note that since this is a HDTV, you'll need HDTV content to truly see how beautiful it is. Overall, I am 100% satisfied with this purchase.

5 Star Review Great TV with decent features

Strengths:

Great picture, decent sound, good number of hookups

Weaknesses:

Auto-dimming feature

Posted Sep 1, 2007 - Like many people I was debating between this TV and similarly priced sets from makers such as Samsung. This TV I could find a little cheaper and the picture is amazing, so I'm glad I picked it. It's nice and sharp and with some tweaking DVDs look great. I haven't even hooked up anything 720p so far, only 480p besides using it for some downloaded videos by hooking up my monitor to the VGA connection. I've hooked up my Wii system with the Component cables and there was a great deal of improvement in sharpness and clarity with 480p through component cables rather than standard 480i. There are a good number of connections with 2 HDMI and 2 Component hookups with a VGA connection as well so you can use it as a computer monitor. Overall the only real negative is that there seems to be a feature that brightens/darkens the screen according to the overall darkness of the picture which can be slightly annoying, but the TV is great otherwise.

5 Star Review Sharp LC32D43U

Strengths:

GOOD LOOKING,WELL CONSTRUCTED, EASY TO SET UP & OUTSTANDING PICTURE AT A VERY RESONABLE PRICE

Weaknesses:

NONE SO FAR

Posted Feb 27, 2007 - After exhaustive research I chose this set and have no regrets whatever. It has exceeded our expectations and indeed made us "happy campers". The picture is quite crisp and clear and it has an extremely navigable remote control. This set has features and built in technology that even a novice can understand and is all well formated in the easy to understand instruction manual. Would highly recommend this set.

4 Star Review Great Deal

Strengths:

PRICE. SHARPNESS. SLEAKNESS.

Weaknesses:

MISSING SOME NUTS. HAD TO BUY MY OWN FOR THE STAND. TV NOT COMPATIBLE WITH DIRECT TV REMOTE.

Posted Mar 25, 2007 - Well worth the money. No regrets. Amazing color and brightness. I shopped around and saw the LCD's in person. Not too far off from the Samsung and Sony LCD's.

5 Star Review I doubt there's a better 32

Strengths:

Picture quality; multiple tuners; pretty good sound.

Weaknesses:

Slow to "warm up"; takes a few seconds to go to new channel.

Posted Nov 8, 2007 - This TV has a beautiful picture ! We looked at quite a few LCD TVs at Circuit City, Target, Wal-Mart, etc., and the two sets which had the best pictures consistently (in the 32 inch size) seemed to be the Samsung and the Sharp Aquos. The Samsung model did not have as many tuners as the Sharp, and since we found the Sharp on sale and with free shipping on the Internet for several hundred dollars less than the Samsung, we decided to buy it. Setting up the TV out of the box was simple (you only have to attach the base, and Sharp even supplies the allen wrench that is needed). I was surprised when we "powered on" the set that it takes about 12 seconds for the set to "warm up" and the picture to appear -- but the TV has a beautiful picture. Programming (channel scanning) to locate the available digital and analog stations was rather slow, but this is something you probably won't have to do very often anyhow. I'm not sure if it's common with other LCD TVs, but changing from one channel to another typically seems to take from 2 to 3 seconds -- but the picture is beautiful. Channel reception for both digital and analog stations is excellent -- for example, even using just "rabbit ears" for an antenna, digital broadcasts from 20 to 25 miles away come in very clear. We were also surprised at how good the sound is, since this seems to be an issue with many other TVs. All-in-all, after several months, we are very pleased with the Sharp Aquos -- [and , by the way, did I mention that it has a BEAUTIFUL picture ?].

4 Star Review Sharp Aquos LC-32D43U

Strengths:

hdtv is excellent, 2 hdmi, pc monitor port, 1200:1 contrast ratio, 6ms

Weaknesses:

no pip, sound is ok

Posted Feb 12, 2007 - I was debating between this and the Samsung and I'm very happy I chose the sharp. The pic is excellent in hdtv and even in standard cable it produces a nice pic. There are options to change the picture colors or you can use what the TV picks. I had no dead pixels and when playing xbox 360 there is no lag time with the games I'm using. I have no probems with a shortage of hookups like some TVs have. When I use it as a monitor for my PC it produces a very nice pic and playing games also does very well. The one drawback why I'm giving it 4 stars is that it has no pip and sound could be better which is a minor thing. But other then that I'm extremely happy with my purchase. Also sharp customer service was great when I was looking for info and when I registered the TV over the phone. I hope I wont need service but if I do seems like there customer service is great.

1 Star Review TIME FOR A RECALL !

Strengths:

When it worked, great HD picture.

Weaknesses:

Sound quality, intermitent picture loss, remote clumsy to handle.

Posted Mar 6, 2008 - I purchased NEW from BEST BUY in July 2006. BY June 2007 the picture began to dissapear, but I still had sound. The data also didnt appear on the screen - channel number and volume data, so it had something to do with what ever powers the screen. Even so, I had the Cable Co came out, tested lines - they were 5x5. Sharp sent a technician out, whom replaced several componenets inside the set to no avail, it still had the same issues. NO PICTURE ! In Sept 2007 - Sharp replaced the set with a remanufactured one, but refused to give me another 1 yr warranty on this one ! WHY NOT ? Now some 5 months later, and THIS REPLACEMENT SET IS DOING THE SAME THING. I see some posts here stating how wonderful the set is, but they have ONLY HAD THEIR AQUOS TWO DAYS BEFORE POSTING THEIR COMMMENTS ! Therefore, they can hardly speak from experience........ TIME FOR A RECALL ON THIS PIECE OF JUNK!

5 Star Review What a Good Buy!

Strengths:

Great Looking, Exceptional LCD Quality, Easy to Install

Weaknesses:

A Little Pricy at today's Market

Posted Mar 27, 2007 - After returning the $399 Emprex 32" LCD TV, I decided to look for something in the high end. Sharp becomes my top consideration because of its incomparable LCD image performance for the Aquos series. Crispy, clean and elegant colors with a contrast ratio of 6000:1 and 6ms refresh rate, that's all I need for an LCD TV.

4 Star Review I'm happy with it...

Strengths:

Great picture! Reasonable cost.

Weaknesses:

Dynamic Contrast Ratio was driving me nuts but it's an option that you can adjust. Piano black finish attracts dust.

Posted Apr 23, 2007 - Nice looking TV, awesome picture. Very easy to use. Don't like the on/off buttons on the top of the TV - very difficult to change settings without the remote. I also bought the 32" Olevia for our bedroom. It cost $275 less and I like it as much if not more...

5 Star Review Sharp Aquos LC-32D43U LCD TV

Strengths:

Very Bright. Great Color. Pulls in Digital Stations too. Great choice on menu for tweaking picture, etc. Excellent, modern design. PC input.

Weaknesses:

Complicated remote control. Takes a while to learn how to program everything.

Posted Jul 9, 2007 - We are enjoying this TV a lot since we received it several days ago. It can get very bright so it can be a little too much at night so do turn that backlighting down until it's more comfortable for your eyes. The color is very realistic but sometimes grainy. The HD picture is excellent.

Weaknesses:

No 1080p(not needed for 32" anyway)only 2 HDMI. Speakers are bad.

Posted Feb 15, 2008 - For the Price this LCD is amazing! Clear and superb PQ and very Deep blacks for a LCD.supports 720p and 1080i and thats all you need in a 32" The design is awesome and matches my PS3 :) Only Downside is lack of an extra HDMI port,Speakers arent too good and could use 1080p for PC hook-up.

4 Star Review Great LCD TV

Strengths:

Quality of Picture and Sound, Easy Setup, Number of Inputs

Weaknesses:

Not True HD for Price

Posted Dec 26, 2007 - This TV is great!!! First off it arrived at my house 4 days after I ordered it. Secondly the install was easy as I bought a wall mount bracket in lieu of the stand. The quality of the picture is awesome (with the use of an HDMI cable). It lightweight and really thin that it make it seem as if there i no TV at all. The number of HDMI inputs (3 each) and component inputs make this TV work with alot of home theater components. Lastly the price wasn't bad but if I am paying for HD I feel I should get the 1080p not the 720p. But all in all I recommend the TV 100%.

4 Star Review Pretty Good

Strengths:

It looks nice and the picture is pretty decent, especially when we compared it to others in the store.

Weaknesses:

I could probably get up and make a sandwich in the amount of time it takes for the TV to actually turn on after I hit the POWER button. It's slow changing channels, we have a Toshiba like that too.

Posted Dec 22, 2007 - Overall I like the TV, but it can be complicated as far as the Menus and such are concerned. I can not figure out how to change the setting of the picture. A lot of the picture is cut off on the top and bottom. I have a Westinghouse that has a button right on the remote that changes the picture options (Standard, Fill, and Overscan). The picture isn't stretched out like some of the TV's I've seen, but it still isn't 100%. I like my Westinghouse better as far as overall performance, but since it's a new brand I'm unsure of what it will be like in the long term. Sharp is an established brand and it's a good TV, but if you want a sure thing get a Toshiba or take a chance on a Westinghouse.
