The most impressive LCD HDTV in it's class.

Strengths: 1080P, good looks, packaging, swivel base, PRICE

Weakness: weak speakers

After researching for 6 months, I found this Toshiba 42HL167 1080P locally for $1400 out the door with 0% financing until Jan '09...and I it's been a dream come true. First, I tried a DLP, but it was not as versatile, the fan is annoying, and are not wall mountable! So NO "COOL" points for DLP's. Plasma suffers from "burn-in" and performance is not up to that of an LCD. Also, Plasma have a lot of glare due to the glass screen. So here are my thoughts on this bargain priced solid LCD...
HDTV: Using an antenna (in attic), I get local HD broadcasts, and it's visually superior to any non-HD cable /satellite channels!
XBOX 360 (non elite): Halo 3 is awesome! Only 1080i, but still great looking.
HD DVD: 300 was mind blowing in high-res. This HDTV did not fail to deliver! Seeing is definitely believing.
PC: Online surfin' is like heaven - looking through a big window instead of squinting on a 19" monitor. Watch videos online like a TV for entertainment. PC gaming is now truly immersive and big scale.
As I've found, the TV is a very critical part of an entertainment system! It must accept signals form many sources and devices and display in Hi-Def. And this HTDV swivels to adjust to viewing angles, unlike all the other brands. Mount it on a wall and it will look slick (remember to hide the cables in a colored conduit or run down in the wall). In summery, 42" LCD is the sweet spot size and price these days. I have not found anything negative about this model. You'll be glad you spent an extra $200 for the 1080P! The best thing is, this HDTV was the most affordable in it's class (locally). Toshiba has very positive reviews on it's LCD's. Truth is, I could not distinguish the image quality of this Toshiba from LCD's that cost many $100's more...

Beautiful quality picture

Strengths: This tv has a good quality picture. The colors are sharp and bright. It has a swivel base for viewing from every angl. It was easy to set up.

Weakness: So far I have not experienced any weaknesses with this television.

I highly recommend this television. All stations come in nice and clear. The tv was simple to set up. It has nice sound. The picture is very sharp with intense color. This tv comes with a swivel base that makes it easy to view from all angles. The remote is easy to use. You can easily switch back and forth from your antennae to cable.

Awesome Computer Monitor!!

Strengths: Vivid color, user-friendly remote, sharp picture, sleek design and full 1080p

Weakness: Legs on stand stick out a bit far, remote isn't backlit

Great LCD Television for the price. This TV has good picture quality, vivid color, sharp picture. The cabinet has a sleek, modern design, although the legs stick out a bit far at an angle in the front making it difficult to place other components, such as vcr or dvd in front of it. Local HD transmissions can be received without need for a special antenna. It has full 1080p which is great since I also use it as my computer monitor. Gaming quality works well with Playstation and other video games. The Toshiba name comes through again!

REGZA 42" LCD TV

Strengths: Clear picture, vivid colors

Weakness: So far, no downsides

This is our first HDTV purchase and so far we are pleased with it. The picture quality is good, clear and vivid picture. Our last television was a 61" Toshiba projection TV and if this one lasts as long as that one did, we will be extremely happy. The Toshiba name has always been good for us.

Solid HDTV for a reasonable price

Strengths: High-definition picture quality is excellent and standard definition is surprisingly good; 3 HDMI inputs; supports 1:1 pixel mapping; price

Weakness: Off-center viewing washes out colors more than comparable brands; no 1080p resolution over component; VGA input only supports a maximum resolution of 1024x768

This is a solid 42-inch LCD HDTV for the price. The picture quality in both standard and high definition environments is comparable to rival sets that cost hundreds more. My particular TV can pick up over-the-air HD broadcasts without an antenna, which is a pleasant surprise. The 42HL167 also does 1:1 pixel mapping without any picture corruption or artifacts. This set is not without its flaws, however. While any LCD will have colors that wash out when viewed off center, this Toshiba does it more quickly and at smaller angles than most of its competitors. This is most noticeable on SD broadcasts, and it took a lot of tweaking to minimize this effect. It's still there but I can live with it. Also, the maximum supported resolution over component is 1080i, though the TV will de-interlace the signal. It's better than nothing, but it would have been nice if full 1080p were supported. Further, the VGA input is nearly useless, as it only supports a maximum resolution of 1024x768. Thus, owners of non-Elite Xbox 360 systems will have to stick with component. Overall, the 42HL167 provides a good entry point for people who want an HDTV without breaking the bank. Just make sure that when you position this set that your viewing angle isn't too wide.

Toshiba HDTV 1080P

Strengths: Great Picture, good angle viewing, full 1080P, ample inputs, good scaling and stretching of SD, nice menus, very bright, good motion handling, and affordable.

Weakness: Piano finish on the surrounding case is not 100% smooth (Some imperfections), Base is very large and ugly and sticks out 6" from the front, speakers are fairly weak, black levels in SD are not so great

I purchased this a month ago at PCRichards with a price match. Got a good deal and a great latest generation (As of 06/07) LCD at Full 1080P. The screen is bright and crisp and on HD content the black levels are great and the color is vibrant. It has 175 degree + angle view, and the motion seems very fluid with no detectable trailing. It has ample inputs including 3 HDMI, which is fantastic. The scaling for 4:3 to 16:9 works very well and there are 4 options as to how to stretch or zoom the image, all work very well. As with most HDTVs SD doesn't look very good, and the black levels that are acceptable in HD, can appear to be a dark grey blotchy boxy mess. My only major complaint with the TV is the piano finish on the boarder to the screen was not 100% smooth, it had some imperfections, and the base is rather large.

Research Paid Off

Strengths: Great picture even off angle viewing although not 176 degrees as advertised about 150 degrees before color fade.

Weakness: Some theatre settings not available through RF cable but ample component imputs, RCA, A/V jacks took care of that. Narrow wall mount holes make me nervous but seem very strong. So I guess none really.

I disagree with some of the negative reviews. If you expect home theatre sound you should expect to have to hook it to a home theatre system. I found the sound quality once adjusted to be fine even when too loud. The off angle viewing color fade I also disagree and have called it a strength. I bought an articulating wall mount and have not needed it. The preset picture modes are all very bright for me even though I have it mounted between two west facing windows but the easy to use menu system makes it a snap to adjust my preference. I suspect with direct sun on the screen this may not be the case. Input labeling is great for forgetful people like me. I only have good things to say about this HDTV and would recommend it to anyone researching an LCD TV. Oh, one more thing. If I waited one more week I could have saved another $50 from the same place I purchased mine and I got a great price.

Love The Toshiba Regza

Strengths: Nice size, easy on the eyes Captions easy to read Great picture quality, bigger and sharper

Weakness: Remote a bit complicated for senior citizens Remote doesn't light up

If this Toshiba lasts as long as our Toshiba 61" projection TV did, we will have plenty of time to enjoy all the features this television has to offer. We have been very happy with the Toshiba brand in the past years. It is very nice looking, sturdy, and handy that it swivels for easy viewing. We are using this television in the bedroom and it is a great size for this room. Not having the big, bulky back on it is a definite plus. I would definitely recommend this television to friends and family, first because of Toshiba's reliability we've seen in the past, and also because of the picture quality and the ease of using this television.

Toshiba HDTV

Strengths: Great Picture, Easy to Set Up, Price

Weakness: Slight color change when not looking straight on

You definitely can't beat this TV for the price. I compared this TV with a Philips and LG 42" 1080p HDTV and this one was the best deal. The Philips wasn't up to the caliber of the Toshiba and LG while the LG and Toshiba looked the same. What makes the Toshiba better was that it was $200 cheaper than the LG. When I got it home, I had everything hooked up within 10 minutes of walking in my front door. On the negative side, it does wash out some colors when viewing it at an angle which the LG is supposed to fix (don't know if it actually does). The other issue is just one for big HDTVs in general... if you don't have HD media (i.e. HD cable or Blu-ray or HD-DVD) the picture won't look anything like it does in the store. Just be prepared for that. To sum it all up, I would definitely purchase this TV again and it is quite a bargain! Definitely worth a look!

Review for Toshiba Regza 42HL167 LCD

Strengths: Colors, vibrant detail and vivid light and dark contrast.

Weakness: Outdated bezel, remote could be imporoved

Comparing against my sharp aquos 46" 1080p set, the regza is every bit as good as far as color detail and picture quality. My video feeds were a PS3 bluray player, and xbox 360 HD-dvd/console. Also used comcast high def cable, and the picture is superb on HD content.

Toshiba HD TV 42HL167

Strengths: HDpicture quality is excellent, 3 HDMI inputs, very good menus, very bright, and reasonable priced

Weakness: Need to wait for 10 second between shut off and turn on again.

This is a good 42-inch 1080P LCD TV for the price. The HD picture quality is excellent and cost few hundred dollars less than the rival sets like Sony & Samsung. However, this set is not without its flaws, I need to wait for 10 second or more to recycle the power, otherwise it won't show any picture. Further, the VGA input is nearly useless, as it only supports a maximum resolution of 1024x768.

A great HDTV that does not break the Bank!

Strengths: Great price for a LCD TV with 1920x1080 resolution. I'll be ready when switch goes from 1024x768. A few hundred dollars cheaper than the LG brand which compares.

Weakness: I didn't like the balky stand that comes with the TV.

My family and I spent the better part of the day looking at LCD and plasma TVs. Its almost like buying a car with all the features and styles. The Toshiba LCD was at a good price for what we wanted in a TV. This particular TV did not break the bank! Happy TV hunting!!!

Toshiba LCD

Strengths: Great packaging. The unit looks exceptionally sleek with it's black "Piano" finish edges. With 3 hdmi slots it's a sinch to hook up, I connected two cables and was good to go.

Weakness: none found yet, hopefully i wont find any.

Got a great price from Grants in Illinois, BB was offering $1700, got it for a lot less.
Great looking unit with plenty of slots to add HDMI and other components.
The set has a swivel base already attached which is extremely convenient.

HL167 The tv for me.

Strengths: Not being a techy,i just plain liked what i saw at the dealership. The picture was great. And the price was very resonable.

Weakness: I was thinking about mounting it on the wall.Mounted on the stand it comes with allows the unit to pivot. At this point i can,t find a negative.

My wife and i looked at many differant brands of Plasma and LCD sets. This was our Christmas present to each other.Well its May and i finally ordered .Recieved it today.Unplugged the 32" and plugged in the Hl167 lots of features on this set ,its going to take awhile to check them out. I would recommend people to take a look at this set,you won,t be disappointed.

Toshiba 42" Full 1080P Regza HDTV - 42HL167

Strengths: Size, Picture Quality, # of Inputs.

Weakness: If I had one it would be the cost versus some of it's competitors.

Overall I love this TV. Bought it for the game room to connect to the wii. Family and Friends just rave about how great the picture quality is and how the colors just pop. Now the only problem I have is the guests just don't want to leave.

GREAT HD TV

Strengths: This se easy to set up and use. The picture on standard tv is great and I am definitely gettin Direct Tv HD as soon as possible!

Weakness: None.

I searched through various HD TV's and found this unit had a great price to performance value. This set has features on units costing close to a $1,000 more. This set has been a real great performer I would definitely recommend it!

Great 1080P HDTV for the Price!

Strengths: Fantastic picture. 3 HDMI inputs.

Weakness: Stand sticks out in front of TV.

Wanted a 42" LCD to fit into an entertainment center as a second TV so I didn't want to spend a great deal but wanted 1080P. Viewed the TV in Best Buy prior to purchase and thought it looked good in the store and am not dissapointed. Picture looks great in HD and still looks good with only Dish SD. Only real negative with SD are the black images. Can't wait to upgrade to Dish HD!

Awesome HDTV

Strengths: Great color, 1080p capable, lots of inputs, VGA input

Weakness: none so far

Great set and best price for set with 1080p and so many inputs...3 HDMI, 1 VGA, COMPONENT, COMPOSITE, S-VIDEO. Easy to hook up to home theater amp using HDMI. As for the guy complaining about burn in, that is all but impossible on LCD screens. I also use this set connected to PC with high end graphics cards and DVI to HDMI cable for watching on line video and movies. Works great!

Regza sucks

Strengths: Not a thing

Weakness: BURN-IN all over the screen the center the right side and on a light screen the entire back ground looks to be burning in on the normal screen not the theater screen

So all you people that love your Regza's do you have any suggestion about the burn in on my set. I suppose we are stuck with a lemon now. What a piece of JUNK I will never buy a Toshiba product again NEVER

Toshiba 42HL167 42

Strengths: Price, clarity of picture and vivid colors and swivel base

Weakness: pedestal table mount stand is large and bulky.

I could not see any picture difference between this Toshiba and comparable models costing hundreds more. Setup was rather simple. The matted screen helps reduce any outside light reflection. The pedestal mount is 28" wide and 14" deep which could prove to be a problem if it was to mount on a small table.

Great LCD HDTV in the Toshiba 42HL167 model

Strengths: 3 HDMI inputs, PC input, functional remote, vivid colors

Weakness: sound of speakers, 1080i for component video

This is a great LCD HDTV to get if you want a good size LCD screen but don't want to spend a lot of money. The 42" fit perfect in my apartment living room. The standard-def picture quality meets and exceeds comparable sets from LG, Vizio, and Panasonic. I know this because my brother, father and friend have those respective units. The HD quality is very good and I have DirecTV HDTV which is only 1080i. I also have a 1080p upconvert DVD player that the picture looks great on for my normal DVDs. Also of note, this set supports 1:1 pixel mapping over HDMI, so you can compensate for overscan.

There are 3 HDMI connections and are capable of 1080p resolution. The component inputs can do 1080i, and the PC/VGA input does 1024x768. If your big on sound, the speakers are the weak point of this TV. I do have my TV and DirecTV box hooked up to a 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS receiver and it sounds smooth, like I'm in the movies.

Overall, this set is solid from a price to performance. As an owner I am happy with what I got for the money. It took several weeks of hard research, from store to store until my purchase. The Toshiba 42HL167 is a great TV and at a great price.

Toshiba 42HL167 LCD TV

Strengths: Excellent repair record. Excellent picture. Good price.

Weakness: None

The picture is very sharp and the colors are bright. The sound is very good. The repair history for Toshiba TV's is among the very best in the TV industry. Based on all of the qualities, this TV is the best value for the price.

Toshiba REGZA 1080P HD LCD TV

Strengths: Good looking, high quality, very reasonable priced, with three HDMI inputs, and relativly low power consumption

Weakness: Speakers volume a bit low and some degree of color wash-out with angle

I was able to obtained this 1080P LCD TV below $1170 at store (with price match), I'm pretty sure is a good buy at this time. Well brand, very good quality, able to swing left and right, and with power consumption of 169 Watts which is the lowest compares to all other brands (as this is one of my selection factor). Set up is relatively easy. I matched it up with a 1080P up convert DVD player and it works well to bring movies to nice 1080P standard. Sound quality is not as good as home theater so I may consider add external sound system for movie showing. Already heard comments about color wash-out but is still acceptable to me and I rarely sit by the side to watch movies anyway. No plan to use it with computer. Given the price I paid on this unit for all the features and quality, worth five stars to me.

Toshiba Regza 42HL67

The Regza 42HL67 is part of Toshibas 2007 lineup of LCD high-def televisions, and falls on the entry-level side of their offerings, and in the middle road of LCDs in general. The set features a 720p native resolution as opposed to the higher 1080p, but at 42" the difference in resolution shouldnt be a factor in viewing distances over 7 feet. As part of the Regza line the HL67 uses much of the...
