Samsung HPT-5054 review

Strengths: Good looks, Sharp picture, value for money, 3 HDMI

Weakness: Channel numbering system

Got it from Fry\\\\\\\'s after BF sale but price slashed and got price match twice from FRy\\\\\\\'s. Got a NFL $100 gift card too. So total cost was $1199. Has Black trim(glossy) so looks good after wall mounting also on stand. controls on side so looks neat in the front.cool deal. good price for name brand.

Excellent Value-Priced 50" Plasma

Strengths: Nice picture for 720P set; great value.

Weakness: Bad image retention problems; can't directly select input source.

This set has been recently discounted and is available at a great price through both online and B&M vendors. It has a great picture for a 720P set; from my viewing distance of 10', it looks excellent after tweaking (check avsforum for proper settings, esp. right after purchase).

It does have bad image retention problems, but they go away with time & care (turn down from torch mode as soon as you set it up). I use this set primarily for Xbox 360 (Call of Duty 4) and it is perfect for that use.

Great TV

Strengths: Value, appearance and picture quality

Weakness: Sound and Color Contrast

For the price I've paid for ($1399, free ship/no tax), it is by far the best deal in 50" plasma TV. My only complain is that the sound quality is not as good as my Samsung SP-R4232 which is 2.5 years old. Also, the whites seem little darker and not as "clean" compared to my older unit. I've played around with the various adjustments but no success.

Other than this, this one is a keeper!

Samsung HPt 5054

Strengths: Excellent picture.Best for the price I paid

Weakness: Sound is little weak

I bought this from Circuit city after a price match. This is a excellent piece for the price I paid. Picture is really sharp. But I didn’t like the sound. It has enough s video, component and HDMI.

High Quality HDTV Without the High Price Tag

Strengths: Stunning HD picture, very good SD picture, beautiful high gloss black frame

Weakness: Mediocre sound

Before following the 1080p herd, compare the Samsung 5054's picture quality, from your expected viewing distance, to that of the 1080p model you are considering.
You will likely be pleasantly surprised to find that the 5054's picture quality is comparable to, if not better than, its 1080p competition, at an incomparably affordable price.

great tv

Strengths: awesome colors, fast channel changing, just great!!

Weakness: none yet

I have had this only for about a week. I got a great price on it . The colors r beautiful and vibrant. It has a signal amplifier or something of the sort for air channels. I'm not sure if it works but my locals come in fine with just an antanae.I have a sony Bravia as well and I can't decide which is better. I would definitely reccommend this to someone not to concerned with 1080P. I doubt there will be much broadcast in that for awhile. The difference form 6-10 feet is questionable for the price.

Samsung 50" Plasma TV Review

Strengths: This TV has great overall picture quality in terms of vibrant colors. Also, it takes only mere seconds to show the image once the power is turned on.

Weakness: One weakness is the resolution. If only it were 1920 x 1080 it would be great to use your computer on. Also, this plasma is a little on the heavy side.

Even though the resolution isn't 1920 x 1080 it still looks good when you are running your computer on it. Also, it looks great on the wall. It has swivel screen feature and a wide angle of view. For its price, it's an unbeatable deal and a superb plasma TV.

Excellent TV

Strengths: Excellent Price Glossy Finish Swivel Stand

Weakness: None!

Bought this flat screen about 2 months ago. Was impressed with the picture quality from the start.

Price to performance ratio was hard to beat. Setting-up and connecting to a home theater system was a breeze. Using the remote and its features was very easy and intuitive. I highly recommend this Flat screen

Outstanding quality for the price

Strengths: Crisp sharp and clear picture-virtually no difference to the 1080 unlesss you are very close to the unit.

Weakness: None.

The quality of Samsung when it comes to Plasma HD Televisions is second to none. The fact that the HP-T5054 50" could be either mounted on the wall or be used with the stand provided makes both options available. I personally chose the first. The quality of this item is totally amazing.

Good 50" Plasma TV around $1500 - $1700

Strengths: Nice design. The best quality for 720p resolution

Weakness: None

Even though, this is not a 1080p resolution model, you will get the high quality picture. You can prove this by going to Bestbuy or Circuit City close to your house and compare this model with many 1080p models. The 1080p models have higher quality picture than this model just a little bit. But, prices are more than $2500.

WOW!!

Strengths: Excellent Resolution Cannot distinguish between 1080p Best Bang for the Buck

Weakness: ...None

I had an sony 1080p LCD and decided to return it once I bought this Samsung. This TV was superior and also about half the price. A big plus is non-hd channels look excellent. I'm extremely happy with the buy and do not regret it at all. Lastly, the TV's finish itself looks great. Blends in great with my living room setup.

Samsung HP-T5054 Plasma

Strengths: Price, picture quality, 3 HDMI input with the 3rd being on the side

Weakness: Audio is a little weak, 720p resolution instead of 1080P resolution, cheap mount

Overall, the unit is a keeper. Price is excellent. Bought it from Sears.com and pick up in store. I gotta 15% discount online which is excellent.
Even though I said 720p resolution is a cons, the picture is really good to great with sitting distance of 8 ft or more. In my opinion, the 1080p resolution is more marketing since I’m sitting farther than 8 ft away from the TV and can’t tell the added resolution until I stand like 4ft from the TV. 1080p resolution TVs need another year before prices will really be affordable (although they are close now). Picture quality is sharp and very good. Physical appearance has a very stylish, glossy piano black look, similar to the 50” Pioneer I currently have. Picture quality is close to the picture quality of the 50” Pioneer (5070HD) in dynamic mode. In standard mode, it’s so so but still better than the 42” Panasonic (42PX75U) I currently have (I currently have 3 plasmas now).

The base mount for the Samsung plasma feels cheap compared to the Pioneer 5070HD I have, but for the price, it’s to be expected. The manufacture gotta cut costs somewhere. This doesn’t bother me much since I don’t use the mount. Mounting the 5054 plasma on the wall is simple with the Peerless wall mount I bought online. Before mounting the plasma, you need to remove 6 screws from the base, which is quite simple if you know how to use a drill or by hand.

Overall, for the price, I would highly recommend this HP-T5054 Plasma to anyone. The picture quality is awesome, even better than the 42” Panasonic I have and close to the picture quality of the 50” Pioneer I have for much less.

Great TV at around $2000

Strengths: Excellent video quality

Weakness: Is it me, or does stand tilt to the left?

I bought TV at circuit city over the weekend. We compared this tv to other sets and it was next to the panasonic 50". the color on this one definitely pops out more than the panasonic. we didn't care about specs...whatever looked best was what we got. other plasmas like sony, pioneer, etc didn't seem to grab our attention. The lcd's at 1080p didn't seem to look that good either....the blacks didn't seem as black. There was a samsung 46" 1080p lcd for $2700 that looked comparable to this 50" plasma, but the price was much more. as a result, I went w/ the samsung. however, i must say that lcd's text were a bit sharper.

setup was pretty quick. we have time warner cable and connecting coax cable allowed us to see a few hd channels like cbs, abc, etc on channels 102-xx (weird numbering system). took about 10 minutes to autoprogram everything from coax.

when our hd receiver came, we hooked it up w/ component (as there weas no hdmi) and it looked great at 1080i. if u're time warner user, you only get like 10 channels for free. ESPN 1 HD and ESPN 2 HD costs $5 extra/mo...though the regular ESPN's are available for free.

SD shows look alright, but HD shows really stand out.

unit gets hot at the top.

Great Mid/Entry Level Plasma

Strengths: Price, 3 HDMI ports, Anti Burn Technology, Ease of Setup, Picture Quality, Gorgeous looking.

Weakness: Remote is only partially backlit is the only weakness I can find so far.

Circuit City has this model on sale for $1999.99. If you live in a tax free state or right next to one, you can't beat being able to pick it up and have it home that night (I'd rather not deal with delivery on such an item, too many horror stories). I had a small issue with ordering online for in-store pickup. It took me a few hours on the phone, but eventually their Corporate support staff called me back and resolved the matter and I had my TV the same night. The pickup staff even opened my box and inspected the TV for any damage! I unpacked it and had it powered on and watching standard channels via my old tube-tv's S-Video jack within 10 mins. I just bought a couple hdmi cables and an upconveting DVD player until I can afford a blue-ray or HD DVD. I'll update this review after I connect up a HDMI source tonight. Later I'll add a photo when I get my entertainment center back together and presentable :p
