5 Star Review Ultra Sharp

Strengths:

Great design, solid blacks, very bright, thin, & light.

Weaknesses:

Speakers are just ok, greyscale could be better

Posted Oct 1, 2007 - I've had this TV for about a week and I am very impressed. I shopped around for Sony and Samsung before picking up this Sharp due to the price differential and the gorgeous design. I love how thin the bezel and the TV itself are. HD pics are outstanding. Even SD sources are acceptable which was quite surprising considering my prior SD experience on an HDTV was less than good. Sharp offers plenty of picture options and they are remembered for each input. The remote is even backlit which was quite surprising. I would definitely buy this TV again if I had to do it all over.

5 Star Review Excellent HD LCD TV

Strengths:

Slim and light. Outstanding contrast

Weaknesses:

Built in speaker sound quality

Posted Nov 4, 2007 - Initially, I read reports about banding on this model. Upon initial setup, I examined my set closely under different lighting conditions. It is very difficult to make out the banding and its unnoticable during normal viewing conditions. The form factor is great, slim and light enough for me to install the stand by myself, and it takes up very little space. The picture quality is among the best I've ever seen. There is a wide range of adjustment options so you can customize it to your preferences. Main downsides I've noticed so far are the built in speakers and the fact that I can't customize my favorite channel lists more (there are 4 favorite lists than can only store 4 stations each).

4 Star Review Sharp Aquos LC-46D64U - great LCD TV

Strengths:

1080P 3 HDMI, PC, + lots of other inputs, both on side and back HDMI 1.3 for the latest technology 3.75" deep More compact than last year's model - LC-46D62U

Weaknesses:

None yet

Posted Sep 15, 2007 - This is our first LCD TV - upgrading for a 27" tube that we've had for 10 years. It was well worth the wait - the picture is just awesome or both DVDs and cable (HD). We chose to mount our TV over the fireplace, but the stand seems like it would be a good option too if you have the room. We have not seen any issues with banding. The number of inputs is great - it lets us use the components we have now and is ready for when we upgrade them. The picture is crisp and definitely gave us the feeling that it was worth spending the money to upgrade our old TV.

5 Star Review Superb HDTV

Strengths:

All good

Weaknesses:

Nothing so far

Posted Mar 21, 2008 - well, this is one good deal, this tv is all good, one thing i advice who ever is buying soon (this tv or any HDTV). please prepare the right conditions for those kind of tv's to work, then complain later. an HDTV needs an HD output in order to work as it was intended to. wheather you are with a dish or a cable company, call them and make sure your box or receiver is good enough to get HD channels. do not expect your new widescreen HDTV to display SD (standard definition) channels as good as your boxed old TV set. why

4 Star Review AQUOS LC-46D64U

Strengths:

Lightweight, Ultra-thin, 1080p, hdmi 1.3, VGA port, individual color calibration, firmware update via usb.

Weaknesses:

Unable to set color temperature manually.

Posted Oct 1, 2007 - I'm using the Aquos primarily with my HTPC. The HTPC is connected to the TV via VGA port because the PC doesn't have a DVI output. Connecting to VGA port already looks stunning. For banding issue, I didn't really spend time to look for one but I haven't noticed any. There is per connection picture settings which is really helpful.

5 Star Review Great Quality TV with a Very Clear Picture - But Some Problems with Sound

Strengths:

The TV is an exteremly good value for the level of quality that you get. The tv was very easy to set up and the piano black frame and base really looks sharp. Easy to use features.

Weaknesses:

The speakers provide pretty good sound; however, even at low volumes there sometimes seems to be some kickback. For quaility sound you will need to hook up the tv to a home theatre system.

Posted Nov 16, 2007 - This was my first Sharp Aquos after having previously owned the Samsung line. I have been very impressed with the tv and my friends and family have been a little jealous. The one thing that is important is to research the settings to optimize the picture. There are plenty of places online that will assit you with the settings. This is important because the factory settings do not optimize the performance or picture of the tv.

5 Star Review Great TV....Sharp is not just the brand....it describes this TV!

Strengths:

TV dimensions & weight; picture quality, black levels, and viewing angles are excellent; speakers are surprisingly good; number and location of inputs; menu options are simple and straightforward.

Weaknesses:

Remote and manual are not the greatest, but aren't awful; no PIP.

Posted Nov 10, 2007 - The Sharp AQUOS line has been recently upgraded to these models which supposedly do not have the "banding" issues that past AQUOS screens had. These TVs have some of the smallest form factors for the screen size; even the relatively powerful and adequate speakers are "tucked under" the screen. The stand is very strong and stable. The TV/stand assembly is very simple....8 allen screws for which Sharp has included the wrench. The manual does not really explain some of the advanced video controls well enough for a novice to learn. The descriptions still leave room for a lot of head scratching. Thankfully, most users will not need to touch these advanced settings at all. The remote is your typical multi-device remote but is nothing special. I purchased this TV at the same time as I purchased the 42" and 52" models of the same line (I guess my house should be a Sharp showroom!). I have noticed NO banding or color issues on this TV and the black levels are very solid.

5 Star Review Sharp Aquos LC46D64U LCD HDTV

Strengths:

Picture clarity, contrast, deepness of blacks, sound quality, handling of fast motion scenes without blurring, ease of initial setup.

Weaknesses:

Remote control requires some time to get used to.

Posted Dec 20, 2007 - The Sharp Aquos LC46D64U LCD HDTV has lived up the high expectations we had before purchasing it. Before getting DirecTV HD hooked up to the unit, we were pleased with the strength of the Over the Air (OTA) digital tuner that enable it to pull in all the local stations as well as many PBS stations, even without a proper antenna being connected. The HD picture looks great with rich colors and deep blacks. We have been very satisfied with how well the Sharp Aquos LC46D64U has handled fast moving action in football and basketball. My sons are avid video gamers with Xbox and Wii with their racing and action games. The Sharp Aquos LC46D64U looking great and keeping up with the action in the games. We needed to slightly adjust the the brightness and contrast controls as the brightness was all the way to the right (maximum) and contrast was far to the right. These settings may vary with your experience. Despite requiring these changes, the initial settings have been acceptable until more controlled calibration is performed using a DVD calibration disc. Overall, we are very satisfied with our purchase and have recommended this model to others looking for a similiar sized HDTV.

4 Star Review Sharp's D64U = D62U on a diet!

Strengths:

Slimmer bezel, lighter, hdmi 1.3, addtional hdmi port.

Weaknesses:

Although I hear the speakers on this set have been upgraded, sound is still weak!

Posted Sep 26, 2007 - This is an updated version of the D62U. It's much lighter, thinner, 3 hdmi 1.3 ports, a usb port which I assume is for firmware updates. I haven't experienced any banding on this set. You will need a home theater system for good sound because the speakers are mediocre. I am currently using this in my bedroom, so I guess the stock speakers are good for now. Not currently using the stand because I wall mounted it.

4 Star Review AQUOS LC 46

Strengths:

Very Good sharpness, 1080i, HDMI inputs, very easy setup.

Weaknesses:

Build in sounds was not the greatest.

Posted Oct 22, 2007 - This LCD cost $1300 during the Friends and Family promotion. For the price, it was the greatest deal. Attaching the Wii with the HD components cable sure made a big difference in the gaming environment. Make sure to tune down the brightness as it is set to the max by default. Tunning it down should give it a longer life and should consume less energy. All Sharp TVs seems to be set at the max to bring out the sharpness. There are sites out there that can guide you so you don't mess up the color.

4 Star Review Excellent LCD HDTV!

Strengths:

great picture, very easy to mount to the wall, great cabinet stand (included), easy to navigate thru the menu

Weaknesses:

none that I can tell in the 3 days that I've had it

Posted Dec 3, 2007 - The Sharp Aquos 46" Flat Panel LCD HDTV (model # LC-46D64U) is an excellent TV for an excellent price. I researched several tv's for about 8 months before I bought this one. It was $1600.00 (marked down from $2600.00) with free shipping. I bought it the day after Thanksgiving so there was a big sale price. The wall-mount hardware was $100.00 and very easy to install. If you want to place it on a cabinet or table this TV comes with a real nice stand. The TV is only 3.75" deep so it doesn't take up space like conventional TV's. The picture is incredible. I don't subscribe to HDTV service yet, but I might do that next year and the picture only gets better then. Since I like this TV so much I might purchase a Sharp 37" flat panel next year for my bedroom. Very impressive and I highly recommend it.

4 Star Review 46" LC-46D64U

Strengths:

extremely thin and light tv 3 HDMI ports great HD performance

Weaknesses:

SD tv looks washed out

Posted Sep 27, 2007 - I purchased the LC-46D64U after comparing it to the Sony and Samsung. For the price, this LCD is a great value purchase. Blacks are not as deep as the Samsung and colors are not as vivid as the Sony but those cost at least $1,000 more. The slim design is great.

5 Star Review Best LCD for the Money

Strengths:

Incredible detail and clarity. Speakers are quite good for display being so thin. 25% thinner than previous model.

Weaknesses:

Only looks best when using its full resolution at 1080p.

Posted Nov 24, 2007 - Got this TV Black Friday for $1299 at CC, and cant believe the how much TV we got for the money. The picture is great, and the TV looks good even when off due to sleek design and piano finish. I would highly recommend this TV to anyone...but make sure you get it on sale and don't pay the electronic stores highly marked up everyday price.

1 Star Review Awful TV. If you have an eye for prefection then this TV is not for you!

Strengths:

Skinny design. Front panel is almost all screen. Really the nicest feature about the tv

Weaknesses:

Banding, banding and more banding. saw three different TVs with Banding in all of them.

Posted Feb 13, 2008 - I can't stress enough how bad this TV is. When I first got the TV (CC black Friday great price) I was in awe of how great everything looked. Then during certain bright scenes I began to notice the banding. Not 1 band, 2, 3 bands, but 4. I figured I just a bad TV. Not so. Replace same thing. 52d64U demo at BB same thing. Review from Cnet.com nails it. This TV is not for the visual purest. It is really noticeable during Pans. Once you know where the bands are it hard to watch TV without seeing them every time. DON'T GET THIS TV. I know that it costs a lot less than other band of similar size, but it is still a lot of money and not worth it. Thank God the CC in my town allowed me to return it within 30 days after Xmas. Now I'm getting the Sony 52xbr4. I know that it is a lot more, but the picture is going to look amazing. (It’s still in transit. I will review when I get it)

1 Star Review LC46D64U dead on arrival

Strengths:

do not have chance to rate

Weaknesses:

dead on arrival. power and OPC blink non stop.

Posted Oct 13, 2007 - i ordered LC46D64U thru EPP program. it took exactly 1 month for the HDTV to be delivered. spend 30 minutes to setup the stand, connect all video/audio cable. plug in the power, voila - intial setup screen came up for 2 seconds. it's not even display a whole setup screen yet. the LCD shut it downs, power and poc green light went on blinking non stop. i then call Sharp Aquos support #, and instructed that i can not do nothing to make it works (on Saturday). they will send out tech to fix the problem on Monday. i hope i do not have to wait for another month to watch the first HDTV program.
