61 Inches of Astounding Clarity and True-to-Life Colors!
Very sharp and detailed picture. Black levels are excellent. Great deal compared to other 60+ inch plasma displays.
No HD tuner and only one DVI input.
Posted Nov 26, 2005 - After doing some extensive research on 60+ inch plasma televisions out in the market, I've decided to purchase the PDP-614MX. The reason mainly is due to the screen, source input, and price. As for the screen, it's made by NEC and if you do research on NEC plasma televisions, a lot of companies such as Sony (XBR series), Marantz, and Toshiba utilizes their screens for their panels. Input wise for many of you might not seem to be a big deal since almost every plasma out in the market are making HDMI as a standard now. For those of you who want to make use of your plasma panel as a television screen, HDMI is the way to go. But for those of you who want to utilize your plasma panel as a computer screen as well as a television screen, DVI will suit you best. Only the PDP-614MX offer a DVI input (both PDP-6100HD & PRO-1140HD has HDMI). The reason why I choose DVI over HDMI, as you probably know it already from a couple of sentences back, is so that I can also hook this display up to my computer to make it a media center. Just imagine watching movies and surfing the web on a 61" display panel. Lastly, prices on 60+ plasmas as you all may notice by now cost mucho dollars compared to the 42 and 50 inches which have pretty much flooded the plasma market by now. By comparing prices to built and picture quality in between Pioneer and NEC, both displays are head to head when it comes to quality but as for the price, you'll get the better deal on the Pioneer unit if you do some bargain hunting.
