Strengths:HD picture is excellent - punchy colors, decent black levels, classy looking design. SD card slot for photos
Weaknesses:No PC input. Standard definition ranges from viewable to unbearable depending on the source.
Posted 1 year ago - If you look at the competition you will see this model is really comparable to the Samsung LN32A450 and the Vizio VO32L. I can tell you objectively that if you want a well-rounded HDTV your best bet is probably the Samsung, with its additional PC input and its slightly better SD playback. For me price was everything and the TC-32LX85 was and still is $100 less than its Samsung counterpart. Because I didn't intend use this as a monitor, and in which case an HDMI connection b/w my laptop and TV would suffice for video playback, I opted for the Panasonic.
HD picture is simply amazing. Colors are just very natural and the screen gives me very good blacks for a TV this size. It was much better than the entry level Sony (L or M series, I forgot) I saw in the store, which by the way is also more expensive.
SD picture can be alright at times, at other times its just really hard to watch. I notice that using the "just" aspect setting on SD programming actually makes it LESS blurry (you would think it'd be the opposite since its stretching out the picture but for me it really isn't).
The extra feature of having an SD card slot was nice but by no means a compelling reason to buy the TV. It was a bit slow in browsing my 1GB card but the images came out to gorgeous.
Channel surfing is quick on this thing, only wished that there was a program info mini banner after each time I switched the channel. You can press the "info" button to see details of the program like name, channel, resolution, etc. The remote looks nice but IMO places its buttons in backward positions. For one thing I really wished it didn't place the Ch. Surfing on the left and Vol on the right, it should be the other way around.
For the record I've got this thing hooked up to my bare cable line and am using the built-in QAM tuner to catch my local HD broadcasts along with the basic cable lineup - it's GREAT!
All in all, a good no-frills TV that delivers excellent HD but so-so SD for the most part. At the price that this thing is selling for though, if you don't need a PC input theres no reason to go for the entry level TVs that Samsung, Sony, and Vizio offer - the Panasonic offers you just as good a picture if not better and at a cheaper price! At its current price point I would definitely buy it again.
